I buy my glue from richelieu.com by liongrip which is their own brand. Its commercial glue and not cheap retail and yet I pay around 53$ for 5 gallon my friend;)
All this chair needs is a cool paint job with bright colors or a amazing artwork that wouldn’t take away from the chair unique shape but only add to this amazing design and just make it pop or more eye catching.
Shawna ! Just my opinion but I think that would ruin the look, I just think the modern sleek look goes much better with bare wood instead of a flashy paint job
To obtain smother curves use a long thin piece of wood as a ruler. Just like the boatbuilders on the loft. Make the plywood and the space between the mdf, 2 inches wider and nail the plywood to the MDF at the edges. Forget about the opposing MDF. When the glue&plywood is Ok, cut it 1 inch from the edge. Sand the edge and you are done.
Ben - how heavy was the chair? As a wheelchair user, I've thought for a long time that plywood used in this way would be a great low cost method of providing lightweight wheelchairs in countries where more expensive options weren't available.
That’s a great idea! A quick search didn’t really come up with anything. If you’re interested in seeing something like that happen contact a local college with an industrial design program. It would make a great senior project. In the meantime, I did find a cool 3D printed concept.... www.behance.net/gallery/37333125/GO?tracking_source=search%7CPlywood%20wheelchair
Such a cool looking chair. It’s awesome to see something so cool come using simple tools and materials too (as if that’s not most of your projects, but always appreciated)
Can you get that 1/8th plywood wet to bend it? Not steam, but just soaking it? That turned out great! How long did it take to design the templates? Do you have any tricks or tips on that part? Also was really awesome to see the entire process done by hand as opposed to cnc. Super cool to see it by hand end to end.
bende 7 senedir 97 Mondeo var aldığımdan Şimdiye kadar 100.000 km civarında oldu Oksijen sensörünü değiştireyim diyorum Kalibrasyonu LPG'cilerde mi yaptıracağız acaba
My expectations are high for design when I visit your channel. Once again, not disappointed. Looks comfortable too. Awesome! The Uyeda Chair. Getting an ErogKiwi too. Thanks, Ben!
so cheaper to buy one ,them clamps must 5 dollars each and the wood must 200 the glue must 30plus and what about all the tools i bet it would cost at thousand dollars just to make ,, nice to see somebody making one but so not particle but still cool but if every i was bored and rich i would make one thats not steam bent like the real thing lol
how does the Varathane poly feel to the touch? I'm wedded to spraying any poly....but just curious about how it feels from just rubbing it on. I've always worried about lap lines.
Really cool chair! Very creative. Just a suggestion for comfort and decor. Maybe add a small pillow with Velcro straps as a cushion for your head/neck.
I thought a headrest would be good, but Velcro strips on the wood would look tacky.; How about a "pillow" in two halves, one side padded, the other just fabric, that would fit over the top of the chair like a hat.?
Seriously??? Rockler, being the grossly over-priced retailer with ridiculous shipping rates and abysmal customer service offers a total of $850 for a contest which will no doubt generate a nice piece of change for them? Seems about right. I comment after multiple experiences with Rockler, both online and at a California store.
This is definitely beautiful for sure, but my gosh the amount of materials and tools being used must have made it very expensive, not only that, extremely time consuming.
Nice end result, looks great and pretty simple. But for your own good, please wear a mask when cutting MDF. This wood may be cheap but you don't want to be cheap with respiratory protection when cutting this stuff
For the final (outermost) layer, I would use wacky wood. it's flexible enough on its own that you wouldn't need to do any kerf cuts. This would give a much nicer "finished" look (i.e. no visible kerf marks).
It's good for a prototype maybe, and I like the techniques in a way, but I think the initial template needed the curves to be a lot smoother and finished, then you've got kerf bending, which I think just doesn't produce a nice finished look on furniture, especially something that's not painted and where you can see the edges really obviously. In the end, you've got an 'art' piece of furniture but without the quality of finish needed to make it an 'art' piece of furniture. It looks 'high end' from a distance...
