"I bought this farm just over two years ago; the number one thing I looked for when buying it was the amount of cover. This tract is only 80 acres; it's mainly timber, so you've kind of got to deal with the cards you're dealt when you go into a small tract like this. My whole goal is to improve what's already here." - Shawn Luchtel
Shawn Luchtel of Heartland Bowhunter and Joel Taylor of the Midwest Land Group perform Timber Stand Improvement (TSI) on Shawn's newly-purchased 80-acre tract of land. Follow along as they use the onX Hunt App's aerial imagery and Shape Tool to determine the areas with the thickest canopy and create a plan to thin out the softwoods on Shawn's new parcel. In doing so, they not only improve the habitat from a wildlife standpoint but also increase the value of the property. TSI creates more food for wildlife by allowing more light to reach the forest floor, as well as eliminating competition for hardwoods such as oak and hickory.
