I generally loathe being read to, but I could listen to Benedict's voice for hours. He could read me the nutritional information from a cereal box, and I would still be riveted. *swoon*
English is not my first language and I'm understanding just about the half of what he's saying, but that doesn't matter, because his voice is so beautiful and he's so talented...I love listening to him, no matter what he's saying.
When trying to learn a new language try reading along in the book first in your own language then go English. Also 📚 Slow the speed down by one level, to be able to follow comfortably. M. Illinois. 🇺🇸

I really appreciate you trying to help people and giving advice, it's just funny for me now because by now I'm fluent in English and have lived in different English-speaking countries, I think mostly in English etc. :D
He's make a terrific Inspector Allyn -- and the young woman from 39 Steps, Lydia Leonard, would be a wonderful Troy -- I read all these years ago and loved them. Almost as much as Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane.
I wish I could purchase all the books Mr. Cumberbatch has read aloud. It would make it easier for me to listen to on the treadmill. Or when I'm eating the ice cream out of the carton on midnight fridge raids...lol.
to person who said he would rather read books himself - you make no sense - why are you even listening or posting anything here? sometimes people have to do things and like to listen to something really good while doing them. . . a good actor is a good actor and totally different from reading it yourself!!
i'd much, much rather read books myself. i love not only visualizing in my mind's eye the way i want each character to look - a problem i have when watching a t.v. program or a movie - but the way i imagine each person's voice to sound. there are sometimes certain problems with that, though. sometimes, especially if you're reading a series - such as the allyn series - you may not be able to find an out of print book. on the other hand, you may be waiting in a hospital room for someone who's having emergency surgery and you don't have your book or anything else with you except your phone (and perhaps rather do that instead of watching t.v.). or there may be numerous other reasons. i, for example, am unable to sleep right now. i just came across this. i have the book, but i'm preparing to move and all books have been packed away. if i'm lucky i'll be able to go to sleep listening to this.

I love how he say bunchy, it's so funny. I do love it when the people that reads audiobooks does, or in some cases attempt, the voices of the characters. There is some so amusing about it.

So glad Sarah Long and Miki Meadows revealed in their comments that part 7 - the final part - was missing. I am glad I didn't waste my time listening to this only to be left hanging at the end.
@xTheNightWatchmanx I do not strange... is☆beautiful, suggestive, provocative, masculine and sweet at the same time, with a rich palette of nuances and colors, one of your best tools as an actor, and he knows how to make the most, I love his voice I think is addictive. LOL
listening to books is something that i really enjoy but unfortunately many of the recordings i've come across were read in very a awkward way but benedict cumberbatch reads very well.
Can this be found on youtube or another free place where the quality is bearable and in one file? Not that I don't appreciate it but I listened to it with headphones and the quality is not good.
Fantastic story and reading, however the final part 7 has been deleted and is cannot be found anywhere. Well worth listening to but have a copy of the book for the ending.
If only he had bothered to find out that Alleyn is not pronounced Allain but Allen. Ruins it for me, because it is one of those things that once you know, you know, and once you know he is mispronouncing it in a way that Roderick Alleyn never would, it's ruined. Nearly all names in English are pronounced in some peculiar way to ensure the aristocracy can sort them from us.
