I think Redmayne looked more like Hawking, and the supporting cast was more ‘on point’ for Hollywood. I love it but have the stronger feeling for Cumberbatch in the role. Time is a calculation we humans invented, space is the universal construct.
Have been a fan of Jeremy Brett ever since I saw him in the TV series Jennie. Wonderfully versatile and brought depth and humanity to every performance. And he is the definitive Holmes as per the original books. This version of Rebecca is definitely the best aside from the iconic Hitchcock version. It would have worked wonderfully as a stage play I think. It carries the claustrophobia and pent up feeling of the original story. Great acting and a joy all round. Thanks for posting. ✨💖✨
Jeremy Brett always has so much going on inside; the look in his eyes at 1:06 when the doctor says Rebecca could never have had children is fantastic. He's not moving a muscle, but you can tell he's absolutely gutted, realizing how completely Rebecca played him in their last meeting. Not many actors can do that without throwing furniture around, but he could.
In Poland we still have priest who must make decisions like that. Ex prime minister' s son was a priest, but he have to leave church, because of women... I glad I've seen that very good story, and of course superb Jeremy Brett. And Mr. Sim, whom I know from "The Stage Fright" directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
I'm so crazy about Susan Hampshire's performances. What prevails timelessly is her wonderful copious presence as Lady Palliser in the Trollope tele series in the 1970s. Unforgettable.
