I just recently immersed myself on RU-vid with Barry Humphries, and more specifically with, Dame Edna Everage. I have laughed until I was sore. The man is utterly brilliant.
Ahem...I just have to add, Thor the Viking God of War happen to meet a lovely young damsel...so as things progressed, I'd say rapidly progressed he persuaded her to his home and stay for the night. But, unfortunately the night was not forthcoming. Hahaa... So the young damsel just settled in for the night with Olde Thor...The next morning as both of them were getting dressed. Thor thought he'd better introduce himself, he for a moment had forgotten his manners. He turned to her as she was putting on her stockings. He said, "Oh by the way I am Thor". She then exclaimed, "What Do You think I am.... Whooohaaa... Hahaa....
@@goodbarbenie5477A doctor, while conducting a chest examination of a young lady, and applying his stethoscope to her chest said "Big breaths" "Yeth, and I'm only thixtheen"
loved reading the very complimentay comments and would like to add my very great admiration and thanks to this great human being who still has me laughing.
Loved this speech and have not forgotten it. This was a tour de force - so comfortable in his... role! Barry was a powerful truth-teller and an inspiring artist. I had the priviledge of meeting Barry when he came to Canberra in 2015. Though people might not guess it of me in my work, I told him he was a personal inspiration. I agree with Barry that we will not see his like again. His resilience, confidence and charisma as a performer - and his energy right to the end, were a phenomenon to behold. Thank you Barry for showing us ourselves and making it so hilarious. Vale! XX
It's amazing to see how quickly he becomes Dame Edna as soon as the glasses go on and his mannerisms. No matter if he is himself or Edna, there is always the Edna glint in his eyes. He is a remarkably intelligent and and a great sense of humour.
Barry has a razor sharp wit. He is a modern day icon, when I see him he brings a wonderful smile to my gob. In today's social and failed phoney "comediens", they can't hold a candle to Barry and they never ever will.
Fabulous and love this from the late Barry Humpries/ Dame Edna Everidge. What a talent you were and brought us much joy and laughter 😃 the world is a much poorer place without you. RIP Sir. Thoughts to all. ❤
It's quite rare that someone can create a character that becomes it's very own entity. Barry had this exact gift of making himself and Edna, seem like two completely separate people. If you didn't already know he was Edna, you'd never assume it. RIP Barry. The world has lost a comedic, iconic genius. You're already a huge miss ❤
Saw Red Skelton in early 80’s. At end of show he pointed out that after a show lasting 2 1/2 hours without intermission, he did not use any profanity and that one could still enjoy comedy. How true. I’m turned off by comedians whose monologues are rife with profanity.
@@price-singspuccini6124 Agreed! Swearing is overcompensation for a lack of skill and talent. (Only B.Connolly & R.Williams could get away with that). Barry was gifted with meticulous talent.
Yank here. How is it possible no one laughed when he said "dressed in rich poetic raiment"? This is classic Edna irony! Thank you Barry Humphries for blessing us all with a lifetime of wit & laughter.
Some Aussie expressions may be lost on this American, but you deserve to be Knighted, Sir Barry Humphries. "A knighthood has been given to so many other people, with so little talent." You are well-known to me, good sir. As well as Dame Edna and Sir Les. Yes, Sir, this American knows you very well. And it is very interesting to see you "impersonate" one of your characters. Seeing you change into Edna was brilliant.
It's an absolute scandal he never was, P.M. Tony Abbott should've given him one when he was giving them out to Prince Phillip and some Army General that nobody remembers anymore. RIP genius Barry.
I think Barry’s longevity and massive popularity is due to his immense wit, and comical put downs, without ever resorting to vulgarity. It was clean genuine fun, using innuendo’s and double entendre’s to maximum effect! Not necessarily seen in this clip mind. But it showed his skill and talent. Barry will definitely be missed, as he was one of a kind.
His other “alter ego” Sir Les Patterson appears to have retired, more’s the pity. Just too joyously un-pc in today’s climate. He used to have me in stitches! Definitely should get a Knighthood.
I saw Dame Edna in England and fell in love with her immediately...She wasn't a feature of my generation or my country but I saw in her sparkling eye the fondness of my granny , sensitivity and humour...When I got to finally study the character I discovered a great personality and an intelligent man that I hope got finally all the love he deserves for been himself...Long life to Barry Humphries.. May you always be happy
Another vote for the US, in fact, world wide I'm sure. We've been watching you since I found you in the 80's, close to 40 years now, and you're still great, as yourself, a character, or the beloved Dame Edna. BTW, We love Australia!
@@mortalclown3812 My night is now a bummer! I hadn't heard yet, and never look for who has died as I prefer to go about my day in happy bliss! BTW, I'm from Riverside, CA. Cheers to you, and especially Barry-Dame Edna. Such a loss of the greatest drag queen to ever exist, and one of the best comedians we'll ever see. R.I.P. 🙏
Or is it? I mean I was quite shocked by his transphobic comments in 2018, but I still think he’s a genius! I just wish he hadn’t done what he did with those tweets.
I have seen Barry/Edna only a handful of times and it was always a wonderful experience. Edna is especially lovely and Barry is hilarious. Bless both of them.
Dame Elizabeth Murdoch has her Cruden Farm around the corner - from where I live. Lachlan is not to my taste unfortunately. Greenie. Leftist and a Dullard compared to his Father or his Father's Mother.
Barry Humphries: A Legend, soon as he went into the Dame character; you could see that little twinkle in his eye; great comics like this were able to set a room laughing just by subtle facial expressions, perhaps Australias greatest comedian.
Amazing the second he put the glasses on you see he went into caricature, old Barry with water in both eyes may you rest in peace, our world is a sadder place now your gone🫡💔💔🫶🌹
I love Barry and his coterie of Australian legends. I also love the beautiful way he stuck it to the yammering idiots who obviously didn't have a lick of respect for those on stage. It's a really horrible way to behave. From the perspective of those who've been booked to speak and likely have spent a considerable amount of time prepping for their appearance, knowing that you're going to have to contend with an empty-minded and probably half-cut contingent is extremely dispiriting, to say the least.
Barry Humphries ... what a great artist. Wonder should there EVVVER be another so very special intellectual, artist, comedien ... simply a great great human being. Thank you, Barry, for all the laughs you gave to us.
As a 100% heterosexual Brit, I can honestly say I love this fella, he captivates me with his wit, delivery and overall piss take of everyone and anything. Love him to bits, long live BH
Barry or Edna has got nothing to do with sexuality at all. Barry is a straight male actor who performs his straight woman housewife character. He is not a drag Queen or a gay man or anything related to that community which I can’t even memorise its acronym.
we love you BH ! very very funny guy....thanks for the laughter ! xo 'An ointment we use on our toast!. oh, my belly hurts so bad from laughing so hard. my eyes, burn with salt, my cheeks hurt....I feel better now. Can we bottle Barry and take him with us.... "-) Yanks....would LOVE to have a 'Master Class'.....
Barry is dead. Sad day for comic wit and timing. There will be no more sir les or dame Edna or sandy or baz or Barry. No we are left with a monster with his monster son. A pox to fox. How these two men became bedfellows for privilege will be the stuff of history. Or maybe this is histories end.
