I enjoyed the EDC update, which ironically made me want to spend more money, defeating the first part about no-spend month. I did get the ClipJam after you first talked about it, and some might want to know that in addition to MP3s, it plays the AAX files that you get as audio books from Audible.
NO! Don't spend any money! But yes you're right I have my Harry Potter audio books on my clip jam mp3, but I found I couldn't get audible to authorize the device if I was storing anything on the SD card, so I had to remove the SD card, store the AAX books on the internal storage, authorize it, and then after I'm done, put the SD card back in.
@@bsp Ugh! Yes, the authorization is a hassle. In Windows it uses a little app just for that (AudibleSync) which does NOT work in Win 10, so I needed to use a Windows 11 PC just once to get the device authorized. (After that, I could transfer audiobooks in Windows 10.) Haven't tried an SD card with it yet - thanks for the workaround!
As a Canadian, I can report that, no, at least in my area, we don't leave the doors unlocked. Also, I can relate to the guitar pick part of EDC. I keep one in my phone case, and have never needed it.
Thank you for the report on that. It's sad that it's no longer safe enough to do that, although even in a safe area it's probably smart to lock the door. Haha. We're prepared for those rock and roll emergencies, but we'll never encounter one. But it's good to know that if we're ever put in a situation where we need a guitar pick to save the world, we have one.

You're very welcome Chris. Thank you for the submission and thank you for the support. For spending it seems that when it rains, it pours. If you're able to get into a room with carpet or some couches or shelves with books on them, that can all help with absorption and diffusion of reverb. Placement likely will be able to mitigate the plosives, people who aren't used to being on mic tend to move around a lot though and might not keep a consistent distance to the mic or might turn towards the mic and put a plosive into it. That's a bridge that can be burned if you ever come to it though.
Exactly. Marketing is very effective and FOMO is what seems to work really well. "You'll never get another deal this good." "This item is only available right now, it'll go away soon". Unfortunately those tactics work.

I'm really sorry that that happened, that cannot have been fun. I always heard that in the mid west of the states and in parts of Canada it was just so safe people would leave their doors unlocked.
A no spend month is smart. We're bombarded with tempting offers, tailored to our clicks and preferences all the time. I'm guilty in buying whatevers new and fancy within tech, especially VR, and VR-games/periferrals. All these smaller transactions really add up. The streaming subscriptions are a "silent" transaction to say the least. I'm guessing thats what keeps these services alive, all the passive users. I bet if every active netflix subscription went in to netflix at the same time would probably "break" the server 🤣 Also great to know that the next month will start out with a little more headroom than the prevoius one. Great advice :)
Yes sir I think that's exactly right. It's the passive subscribers or those who forget they're subscribed. For example, amazon prime. I have had that for years for the shipping and never used the video service. I cancelled everything else and just started using amazon prim video, and what happens? They start injecting ads into the videos. I guess it just wasn't profitable for them.
Why I enjoyed the entire series, the story in book two, World Without End, is almost a repeat of the first book, Pillars of the Earth. The names and a few details, have been changed to protect the, "it's the same book claim." Haha.

Instead of a paperclip, ever considered carrying a SIM removal tool? They have a hole so they can go on a Keychain and are thinner yet as strong as a paperclip. One other suggestion for your only voice submission. Twice he made a high pitched sound. I was listening in a truck, not watching, but it was very loud. Maybe a smacking noise? That was very distracting and an opportunity for improvement. #BringBackTheConspiracyCorner

Man, I wish I could have a no spend month... between kids, studio and owning a house... Geeze. There's always something that comes up out of the norm that isn't a "necessity" but at the same time is. And woah... dude, a pizza watch is one thing... its another thing to have pineapple on pizza. That's where the line gets drawn. I have a terrible outlook on saving as well. My job has whats called a 457 (kind of like a 401k but theres no employer contribution) that automatically comes out of my checks. And, being in Gov't, we have a pension system through the state. In my mind, I feel like I "SHOULD" be okay at retirement, so I'm a little looser with my monthly spending. I can think of a bunch of microphones you can get with that saved money!
Yeah I don't have a pension, so the only retirement I am going to have are the peanuts that I get from social security (if it's still around in decades) and the money that I have invested in my own retirement. So I have to be pretty aggressive with my retirement savings to hopefully be able to survive and support myself after I retire.
Corey, thanks so much for the question and suggestion. I don't have a MacBook Air so I can't make a video on that specific computer. The setup really depends on the gear that you plan on using. Are you using the internal webcam or a usb web cam or are you recording to a DSLR and copying video from that DSLR over? For the audio are you using the computers internal mic? a 3.5mm lav trrs lav mic? a usb mic? an XLR mic into an interface? There are a ton of factors that I'd need to know in order to offer any kind of setup advice.
Yes sir. I don't immediately cancel automatic withdrawals, but I take that month to review all of the automatic payments and subscriptions to identify if I'm getting value or if I can still afford those payments and reassess if I should keep them.
@@bsp Yeah buddy. While I find it odd people would pay for things that don't bring them some value exchange, I guess the process makes you at least examine your choices again. I was hoping the challenge didn't call for doing without those miscellaneous expenditures, while not necessary, still bring a value of life result.
I totally understand that it is likely to be difficult with a family or a significant other. In those instances, I think it would be more about trying to lead by example where you make more frugal decisions and explain how and why you're doing them and hopefully those around you pick up on it. But I can't even imagine how difficult it is to accomplish something like this with a family.
I was thinking, you carry a guitar pick, but not a guitar. So you're prepared for an emergency where you need to play, but the guitar is already there! That's pretty niche. I often have a no spend month, since I work retail these days! Though admittedly I have treated myself with stuff the past few months. Generally it's stuff that should last years though, curtains, tools, etc. Sometimes it's lego or space models though. PS: if you wear short sleeves you could benefit from more than 2 watches at once. Better than them gathering dust. 🤣🤷♂️🧙♂️
That's exactly right. I think the desire to carry a guitar pick is due to the horror of going to Guitar Center as a kid and never having a guitar pick and the employees not giving you one to use, so you couldn't try out any of the guitars.
