Thank you so much for making this video! I had my first baby 9 days ago and I have been nursing and pumping because my baby has latch issues we're working through so she isn't getting enough milk from strictly nursing. It's been difficult so I have been questioning why I'm even breastfeeding and whether it's worth it. Hearing all the benefits of nursing/breastmilk is the motivation I needed to keep going ❤

It's worth it! It's so worth it! If it's what you want to for you and baby it is 100% worth it. I've been where you are. My first couldn't latch for the first 4 weeks of his life and I had to exclusively pump for him. It was so difficult. Every time I failed to get him to latch I questioned if it was worth the exhaustion and heartbreak I went through trying to give him enough. But we both got there. At exactly 4 weeks, he started latching and nursing. Nursed right into toddlerhood and I've seen all the benefits. My second is 4 months old now... but he came early and needed the NICU, he was too tiny to latch for long. My supply was low and the nurses had to supplement him with formula. But 17 days in, he got the hang of latching and my supply turned into over-supply. Both times, I had a surprising amount of people in my life telling me to give up on breastfeeding and just go formula, which hurt even more because I wanted to breast feed so badly. If it's what you want, hang in there, contact lactation professionals to help you (my hospital has one on staff that is available by apt for free). You've got this, Momma!

One thing I would like to mention, is to not give up latching because it definitely gets better with time and as their little mouths grow! I am 2 months postpartum and latching is GREAT now

Just gave birth to our first baby last Wednesday and started the breastfeeding journey. There's been a bit of a learning curve but I've really enjoyed it and watching this video makes me feel even more confident in our family's decision to breastfeed. Thanks so much for this content.

Breastfeeding and pumping was hard at first but it became easier. I breastfeed my son when I dont feel like pumping but I do both. Its so awesome

Breastfeeding (mostly exclusively) my 1st for 16 months and counting. Not had a period since I got pregnant. Never had to worry about lugging about formula and bottles. Was below my prepregnancy weight by 6 months pp. But it was intense in the beginning, ngl: when my daughter was cluster feeding, I'd often spend the whole day just sat on the sofa, as she'd alternate between nursing and napping. 😅

Thank you, great video 👌 Could you do a video on inducing lactation and relactation please. It's been 4 years since I breastfed my son and we are adopting a girl now. In the process of relactating and there is such a tiny amount of material I can find on the topic, especially when it's been a few years since the mother was lactating 🌻

The problem with my breastmilk supply is that it is so high in the morning but so low in the evening. I don't know what to do about it. What do you think?

This can be normal, how far postpartum are you?

This might be a dumb question- forgive me. Your body produce breast milk with antibodies and certain nutrients when the baby needs it. So how will my body know what antibodies to produce for my baby if she don’t direct nurse?

Not a dumb question at all! You may loose some of the optimal transfer of information, but being in the same environment along with kissing, holding, and interacting with your baby helps bridge that gap!

Thanks for asking this question, I’ve been wondering about this too for a while now.

I exclusively pumped up until my daughter was 3 months old then switched to nursing. I was an over producer so I have sooo much milk left. We're currently using milk from the deep freeze from June. Which is great because I'm back to work and now back to exclusively bottlefeeding our backlog. If shes 10months old but drinking milk from when she was 3months does that mess with her nutrition?

Great question! It’s still preferred over formula if you have it available, if it’s possible to feed some current milk in there too that would be great. 50% pulling from the deep freeze and 50% fresh, that’s what I would do! But don’t overthink it too much. Breastmilk is breastmilk!

How did you switch to nursing? After a bottle she took a breast? Mine doesn’t want😞😞😞

This might be a weird question, but why would a *non-lactating partner* choose to feed with bottles over an sns? (I'm sure there's a cost difference, but assuming all pumping options were on the table - why bottles?)

Question - is any breast milk better than none? For instance, you can only provide four ounces a day..

Not a medical prof, but I believe so, a small amount is better than nothing. Also, there's things you can do to increase your supply.
