My problem is that I don't pump enough during the day (6x) max, but I really don't understand how you can have a life when you pump every two hours! Between the pumping time, the dishes involved, feeding baby, taking care of a toddler, etc. How can you do anything else? It's a full time job! I'm very frustrated when people say "pump every two hours", my question is "How??".

You can’t. I’m a homeschool mom of 4 and I literally feel like I’m not getting anything done. Getting a pump that isn’t plugged into a wall is essential. I do have perspective and my capacity is much greater than it was, I know this won’t be forever.

I’ve been trying to increase my pumping milk supply and im on the verge of tears. I don’t have the money to do what I want and get the help I need so im glad you have these videos. I cry every time I pump and barely get 1 or 2 oz. I don’t know what to do because I wanted so badly to exclusively breast feed but I can’t seem to produce enough and I can barely afford formula but I make too much for WIC. I suppose I’m ranting right now and hoping I’m not the only one in my situation.

This might be weird but if you have a partner that you're with, do you think they can help you with supply? My I had my bf empty me while I was away from my baby once in a while and since he effectively removed milk and quickly, I was producing more. Maybe just supplement while you try it and see if that works?

Interesting video! I started off with great milk supply when i had my son, lots of nursing and pumping and i had more than enough for my son. One of the hospitals lactation consultants called to check in on me a few weeks later which was very sweet. She told me i was making too much milk for just one baby and that i needed to take away a couple sessions and shorten my pumping time. I listened and stepped back a bit but my milk very quickly plummeted and soon i didn't have enough milk. I went back to the way i started and luckily it came back. I definitely like to have an over supply rather than try to have the exact right supply and risk having an under supply. I was much more confident and happy about feeding my son with the over supply and way more stressed out when i dropped a couple pumping sessions per day and ended up in short supply. Might not be the same for everyone but that was just my experience.

I found a hand pump (which the hospital sent me home with in my go home package) was so much more effective & satisfying to use bc it got out full streams of milk vs drip drip drip wahhh wahhh wahhh with the pump. Also if you feel hyper focused on looking at the amount it can be helpful to cover bottle with a sock & just going to a calm place thinking of your little one. Thank you to you & all the good LCs that taught me so much from day one especially with a baby in the nicu & having to get things going on my own without baby for a few days. I owe it to you!! Now my son is 3 & still going which I'm ready to be done with but it's been a beautiful journey. I wish men & a lot of people who think it's effortless knew how much work & energy it actually takes! It's rewarding but not without its challenges. Thank you. You got this mom! ❤

I make my own cookies, and I’m very well-versed on supplements. I induced after a long amount of time post baby they were critical to success along with pumping around the clock. Granted I don’t do the late night and early morning pumps every single time because that will stress and impact supply. But I always do first thing in the morning and right before bed.

It’s been a long time since I’ve nursed and my previous supply wasn’t good it’s worried me. That and my thyroid issue. Thank you for your videos. They are so helpful. I’d love your thoughts on a pump question. I thought I had my mind up to buy spectra plug in through insurance after watching lots of your videos. plus I have a freemie so I’ll pay for tubing $60 use freemie cups with it. Then I saw they have this option of medeala pump in style and the wearable cups for $50 and you don’t have to be plugged into wall. However since I also have freemie I could use that when I don’t want to be plugged in. I’ll be at home working with my baby. If these were your options would you still go with the spectra?

I have a newborn that I'm nursing but I also have a toddler that I still nurse. So I really want to be able to feed both of them. I noticed one thing that seems to really help with my supply is good nutrition. I had a Vegetable soup that I made for the first couple weeks and I noticed that my milk supply was pretty good but then after I ran out of soup my milk supply went down. I made soup again today and after only a couple of servings my milk supply is getting back up so for me I know it's my nutrition. I need to eat more vegetables and nutritious foods. I'm able to feed both of them AND put milk away in the fridge again!

Do you have any advice when the spray doesn't come without manual compression during pumping? I took a 10 week break when my baby was 1 week old. And I haven’t been able to get it back! I’ve tried everything!!! And it’s not budging!! I have been power pumping, pumping after every feed, taking supplements and feeding on demand and it’s exhausting. I’m at 3 months now and it’s so discouraging. I’m working with a lactation consultant since the beginning and she’s out of ideas too. I really hate pumping now and I want to EBF but I’m out of ideas.

How do you implement a feeding schedule that allows you to skip breast feeding or pumping at night so my husband can bottle feed while i get a few more hours to sleep?
@NewLittleLife
@NewLittleLife 3 месяца назад
Good question! Before 12 weeks or so, it’s advised to continue expressing milk through out the night to protect your supply, so if you don’t nurse the baby you’ll want to pump. Once you’re sure your milk supply can handle this, adding in a pump during the day or before bed can give enough for a night feed. Be cautious of your milk supply though!

I had my baby on January and my first 4 weeks of pumping and latching I did feel like I produced a good amount for a new born. But now at almost 4 months I can’t even make two ounces. On a full day of pumping I probably make 9-10 oz and that is not nearly enough for my child idk what to do.

I have tried all of these worst ways to increase milk supply unfortunately. I am feeling a bit stuck. I had my baby in July and in mid October, my supply TANKED. Then at the end of the month, I got my period. Now every time I get my period, my supply tanks a little more. I now make maybe 19 oz a day max where in October I was at 35+ oz. What can I do to help myself? My goal was to get to a year of pumping for my boy. I have the Spectra S2 as my main pump and have tried many a portable pump for if I ever leave the house. Nothing comes close to the Spectra. I am also taking "More Milk Moringa" from Mother Love - not consistently, but I was told it could help. I change my pump parts out monthly. My diet could use help, but I eat when I can. It hasn't really changed from say October though.

Hi. Thank you for making such informative videos. My baby is going to be 3 months soon and I have a very low milk supply. When she was born I did not get milk so introduced her to formula. People suggested me to pump and this might help. I started pumping and putting the baby on breast too but it was not enough. I have to admit that I was not breastfeeding or pumping regularly and nearly gave up. Recently I started outting baby in breast again. She starts sucking but falls asleep soonafter and U felt that she is not getting enough. I started pumping then and monitored the quantity. In the morning I get about 80 ml and it reduces by the day like 50, 30. 20 and stops. I pump for at least 45 min total to empty it. So currently my baby is 80% on formula and I barely make 20% of the requirement. Pls advise.

I know this video is a bit old but it has me considering calling you guys. My son is almost 10 weeks, he's colicky and very difficult to manage whilst also pumping. I never pump more than 3 oz total from both breasts. My question before calling is: *** is it too late? *** I can't stress enough how hard I had tried with triple feeding but when your baby is screaming his head off every time you set him down it is very difficult to pump with a traditional double electric pump. I have a Lansinoh Smart pump 3.0

❤ i just got my 26 weeker out of the nicu. she is unable to come to breast so i am an exclusive pumper for the last 5 months. & for the foreseeable future. i will likely have to supplement with formula as she continues to grow but i know i am doing my best and the benefits of any breast milk at all make it worth it for me. i was poorly advised by the hospitals lactation consultants. i had ill fitting flanges once my early big supply dropped off and my breasts shrank back down. so watch for that change. i was also advised to drop 3 hour schedule at night so i could get more sleep and it wasn’t a good time for me to make that change. it tanked my supply and i haven’t been able to recoup. just some things to look out for… stay strong 💪

A little before my baby turned 3 months I noticed a dip in supply. Previously I could get 8 ounces from both breast now I get about 4-5 ounces from both breast each pump session. A breastfed baby’s need for breastmilk doesn’t typically increase as they get older after 4 weeks. This is not the case with formula, but with breastmilk, the intake stays fairly consistent!

This video made me very anxious, and I'm one year past my pumping journey. I was one of those who tried everything and bought different breast pumps. When you want to provide your baby your own milk, you want to try anything to make it work. Maybe this kind of thinking was counterintuitive to the whole process. Looking back, I think it was so difficult because my baby and I didn't figure out how to successfully nurse. Idk, I'm just really sad I couldn't do it and had to buy hundreds of dollars of formula during the formula shortage. I just had a really bad nurse/pumping journey as a first-time mom. I'll have to reach out next time. I felt like free support groups didn't help much. Even the hospital lactation team wasn't able to help.

I'm going through this now too, and it is so hard. Baby lost so much weight and kept losing weight. I did some weighted feeds and we found out she was only getting about 10ml of milk while breastfeeding for 30 min to get it. I've had to start supplementing with 20 oz of formula a day because I can't get more than 10 ml a pumping session. It's so difficult. I can't seem to up my supply no matter what I do. The lactation consultants are all out of ideas. I'm sorry your breasfeeding/pumping journey didn't go as planned, but you've done an awesome job taking care of your little one ❤

Really good question. You may try hand expressing after pumping to see how easily milk comes out. If it’s drops and the breast feels soft, it’s probably well emptied. If milk is spraying easily, there’s likely milk still there!

My cousin asked isn't nursing supposed to keep your period from coming? I said for many but surely not me... 6wks of postpartum bleeding then a month later back to periods unreal 😂 I just trying to remember it's my last child. I love your videos, however I want to pose a thought exercise: You talk about getting to the root of each individual problem a lot, yet, when you mentioned the problem of mothers needing to get back to work (either in this video or the one I watched right before it) you said something close to "I wish we didn't have this problem of moms needing to go right back to work, I wish you could just stay home and breastfeed for 6 months, a year, two years, keep your job and get paid." I would ask you, how is this supposed to be done? How many products or deals do you propose these moms make the sell on before they stay home in order to make the capital that wouldn't otherwise exist in order to pay them? You seem to acknowledge the need to be paid for actual work, since you have a pay wall. Do you pay someone who is, say, laid up sick for a year and unable to produce output for your company? Where would the money come from? Do you propose that insurance should pay for this? In that case, are you willing to pay a higher fee to cover the collective need from insurance? (Yes I understand that insurance companies are usually dirty and have loads of money to spend on whatnot. How did they get that way? Who is bailing them out when they have bad practices? Could it be the government that requires everyone to have insurance, no matter how bad the monopolizing insurance company gets?) I propose that the real issue here is not the employer companies either refusing, or simply being unable, to facilitate 2 years of paid maternity leave and job security, and thus we would be needing someone else should step in to foot the rest of that paycheck for the mothers. And usually it's proposed that big-daddy-governnent should use tax dollars to do this - tax dollars that these sweet working moms are already struggling to pay and then survive on what's left over in their paychecks 🤔. It doesn't seem like a solution, to create more of that cyclical problem for moms to have to pay into in order to recieve pennies of (you gotta pay them government redistribution workers, ya know?) I would propose that the actual problem is the thing that's causing the NEED for these moms to earn a living. What are the factors creating the need, and how can we possibly improve 1% of those factors? Take the case of the single-parent household: Is it a single-parent household because dad ran off? Is it a single-parent house-hold because mom ran off? Death of a spouse? Both parents believed they couldn't make it work for the long run? Single mother because of pur culture of having sex before entering a dedicated and solid marriage, therefore risking the exact scenario many of us had to grow up in? Single-parent household because one parent is in prison? Where are the dads? Why are they there instead of providing for the moms? In the case of a two-parent household, where both are dedicated to raising this child, and yet one parent's income is not enough to cover the family's needs, lets not just assume that government is the answer, yet again putting a higher tax burden on alreayd struggling parents. What are the factors there? Is it greedy corporations? Is it a bad business plan? Is it a dissuaded fsther who is so beaten down that he thinks this is all he can get out of his job and life? Whats the cause of that? Is he addicted to porn?(over 80% of men in the u.s. are) Does he need counseling that will help him to know his value without puffing him up into pride? Does the mother have low self-control and previous trauma that prompts her to tear him down in an effort to fix their marriage? Do they accept they might need help from someone they don't want to accept help from? Back to just the job: Is it monopolies? What causes the monopolies? How are monopolies dismantled peacefullly? Are monopolies caused by ONLY the greed from corporate management, or is there government corruption, where yet again, big-daddy-government was expected to step in and save someone? Example: in the case of a major supply line corporation that's failing, then being bought out with tax dollars to continue bad production practices *cough* GMC, Pfizer, other big-pharma companies, health insurance companies [by REQUIRING citizens to buy health insurance - which is called actual fascism btw, not the "antifa" definition of fascism]. How did these things actually begin? Why are women even expected to be part of the work force instead of given the priceless opportunity to stay home with their babies and raise them to not abandon their future spouses, and not be doing things that will mean they can be legally and morally taken to prison, and raise them HOW not to settle in their low-income job, and not let future corruption go on unchallenged? Where did all this crap start? Couldn't possibly be the sexual revolution of the 60s....

Does milk regenerate faster when asleep rather than awake? Perhaps because less energy is being used then? Is my hypothesis 🤔

The majority of supplements moringa, especially are now being main stream into women’s hormonal balance supplements. This is a trend for the better, because in the past they would give women garbage like soy. Moringa, Shatavari and Goats Rue have amazing properties above and beyond lactation. But for me they were essential to inducing.

There certainly is merit there, for sure! It can become a problem when mothers are struggling with low supply or low pumping output and hoping that a supplement will fix the underlying problem, this is where it gets tricky. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@@NewLittleLife this is true. I had no problems after giving birth in having a supply for 16 months pumping exclusively. I found it astonishingly easy, and I can see where if I had issues how difficult it would’ve been!

My baby cries every time while I breastfeed and I only pump about less than a half oz when I pump. I just feel like I’m not producing at all and I pump every 3 hours. I just don’t know what to do anymore. Seems my baby no longer wants to latch onto me anymore and she’s only 7weeks old

I really wanna subscribe and maybe consider to join your program but I think I prefer other lactation consultants here on RU-vid that doesn't constantly promoting their program 7 to 8 times in a less than 15 mins video. 😂😂😂 Plus you make it sound like joining your program is the only way can solve bf problem.

Thanks for your feedback! Our program certainly isn’t the only way to figure pumping out, but it is an efficient way. I’ll keep your thoughts in mind 💙

Hey Allison! When you spoke about pumping more, you said sometimes 4-5 sessions of pumping may not be enough. Is that in addition to full time breastfeeding? I am 3 months pp and currently only breastfeeding, but am pumping in order to help build a stock for when I return to work, and in case of emergency. But currently I can only get 1, maybe 2 sessions of pumping in per day, as I am breastfeeding every 2-3 hours and don't think I can manage more sessions...🫠 And during the pumping I'm only getting about 4-5oz max! In the last 10 days, I am feeling like my supply is getting lower because I see she gets a bit fussy and pulls/tugs a lot at times so I switch between breasts to see if she can get more on the other side. 😢

Good question! This would be more of an exclusively or mostly pumping schedule. Anytime you’re combining breastfeeding and pumping it gets a bit more complicated! Sounds like you’re doing just fine for a maternity leave combo, when you get back to work you’ll be relying on the pump more to maintain your milk supply, that’s when pumping efficiently and really figuring out a good schedule becomes super important!
