Hi Guys, Its been 7 Months owning this Bike. It is worth it and considering your review you have stolen my words. A proper Sunday Getaway. Not too much Not too less, Highway brunch and David Bowie in ears. Most positive review you guys have given and it is factual.
Hi guys, liked this review. Not so much on the music...prefer to hear ye chatting / discussing the bike or just the sound of the engine in the motion shot clips. Styling is nice and steady .captured the historic look of the brand but not as exciting as other similar bike..enjoyed the review. Keep up the good work guys and I'm free to answer any of your decent music questions 😂😂👍
I'm a young person, going for my motorcycle license. I have always liked pre 1980s motorcycles. They just have a degree of style that no post-1970s have. I also quite like the idea of a relatively simply built bike, one that I could work with my father (rider his entire adult life). It's no nonsense. You get what you see, and boy do I like what I see when I look at Triumphs, Royal Enfields and this Benelli.
I would say that a 400cc is a bit tough for a new rider. Maybe you should try with a 125cc first to learn the ropes, a Yamaha XSR or a Brixton Cromwell are some of my faves
Ive just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. I,m 63 yrs and lifelong biker..ive had old ..new and raced moto x till my late 40’s. I have to say Ive had nothing but nice comments when I park up and I do really like this bike. I watched your review a few times before taking the plunge and it helped a lot. Many thanks and keep it coming. Regards Stuart Bell
I’m 31. Currently selling my R1 and Bandit 1250. Just ordered one of these. Lost a few friends over the years and time to take it easy. I looked at all sorts. Text rode the interceptor 650 and wasn’t impressed. I’m buying one of these without riding first but for the price £3600 OTR brand new it will be ok. I only ride the odd Sunday now on the country roads on my own. It looks great and will spend more time looking at it that riding it anyway. With the bad drivers on the road these days and hidden speed camera vans going fast isn’t fun. It feels great when you slow down and will take me back to my 125 days.
I got this bike recently because it was half the price of the RE Bullet and almost brand new. It's my first bike but what I know for certain, is that it fits like a glove, looks amazing and rides awesome. It really is an authentic modern classic, can't really complain about anything, considering the price. I know it's Chinese, but in this case - the Chinese did a great job creating a very unique and characterful product. Your recommendation convinced me and I don't regret the purchase.
I'm a young(ish) person (22) and I love it I'm dyeing for one, saving up so at the minute so hopefully by the time we're out of lockdown I can have the money to buy one, I love the bike the look the sound everything I'm no speed freak and have always been in motors that only do about 55-60 anyway so no problem for me there I want it I want it I want it.
mike ock Great Mike! This is the bike for you! It’s beautiful and a joy to ride. Like you suggest; speed isn’t everything, but it’s still capable of shifting
To be honest, im 18 and im in love with that bike! In hungary there arent many companies that could offer a nice looking classic for beginners. I do like the Honda cb1100ex, but its not for beginners. I think it looks really cool. I live vintage bikes, but i also like the comfort, that new bikes offer. So this is pretty much a perfect bike. Its awesome, its unique, and it looks old, but its actually modern.
I’m in my 40s. I love this bike riding position. Changed the handle so i could sit with my back straight. I’m about 5’5” height so the bike look huge to me but it’s not. Owned it almost a year with 10,000km on it up to today feb20, 2022. Enough power for cruising or to over take a car or two in front. Indeed this bike not meant for speed and its just the bike I’m looking for.
Had a sit on one at the local bike shop and was very impressed with the quality feel of the bike as i have been with all the new benelli bikes, think the bigger brands will be taking a very keen eye on the brand, personally I think the cost of some new bikes is astonishing, so well done benelli and royal enfield for offering more reasonable priced bikes👍👍
@MrDarcy & the Ol'Man What do you think of customizing this bike into a more cafe-ish build? By adding a bit lower and more forward positioned handlebar? Will it ruin the seating comfort, considering the somewhat forward positioned footpegs? Or will it just be the acceptable discomfort of a more agressive seating triangle?
Guys, thanks for the very balanced and informative review. This bike is just beginning to be seen in the US, and I’m with excited about it. I’m a Harley-Davidson rider for road bikes (also into off-road observed trials), but a Benelli Fireball 50cc was the very first bike I ever rode as a youth, so I have a sentimental attachment to the brand. Great review, with lots of good motion shots of the Imperiale. Many thanks!
Hi there Martin in Ireland have one for 2 year's it's good in wind rain yes 80 mpg 75mph OK on motorway go anywhere bike if clean it every so often it's fine I didn't clean mine properly for two years a bit off a scrub and polish cleans up nicely center stand is low but works well very comfortably
I bought one last week .. I'm 37 haven't had a bike since I was 22 I had CBR 400 then. It's nice bike .. has nice acceleration but it is limited by its top speed on 75mph.. but it's lovely to cruise around ... Gets so much looks because of the engine sound.
I love this retrostyle bike and decided it to be my second bike for me and our b&b guests. My first bike will be the new Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 I expect to buy in April in the Abruzzo/Italy. Both lovely to ride relaxed and enjoy the fabulous countryside. Thanks for sharing your enthousiasm!
I loved the bike, borrowed on from my local dealer here in Cyprus. I also wrote a review on it. My normal ride is a sport cruiser, so this was back to what I call, proper bikes. I smiled all the time I was on it, I only had a few criticisms, The tank cap, very light and looked like an afterthought, the rest of the bike is solid, cap was not. Foot pegs, yes rubber mounted underneath, wonder how long till you need new rubbers, shame the pegs don't hook up for paddling backwards. I live 2800 feet up in the mountains, just one hill made me wanting more power, over all, not being a speed machine, it cruised along well and didn't feel slow. I was going to buy one, however, because I live up in the mountains, I am waiting for the new one this year, Imperiale 530. What engine the engine size will be, I don't know, it would seem they are using the 373 and upgrading, so my thoughts were maybe a 475 and 30 bhp? We'll have to see what else they tinker with, maybe some lifting pegs, a new tank cap would help finish off the great looks of the bike.
Have one for two years rusts a bit but clean it with tooth brush and wd40 a leans up well pads on the tank fell off after a month from new in the rain 80mph all day heatsheild fell off after a year other bits OK throttle a bit snatch but OK I've changed out indicator so to bigger ones have 5000mls will plod along all day at 60 and will do 75 on motor way and comfortable no pains after 100mls without stopping just bring your tools in case you need to tighten stuff nuts and bolts aren't great took mirror off a d it was only held with thread wrap very happy with bike you can take it anywhere tires last 5000mls rear from still good in in Ireland cost 6000e new I got mine 5000e with 600km on it easy to work on basic maintenance
The foot peg bracket is rubber mounted to reduce vibration, that is why the pegs "wobble" a little. The rubber mounts are underneath the bike, so not clearly visible without getting underneath the bike. It is perfectly normal for them to wobble in this way!
Have seen the bike at the local dealer and it it surprisingly well finished. It also quite a large bike which is good for bigger guys like me. I was very impressed. I will have to try and get a test ride. I looked hard for a UK review on RU-vid so very pleased to see a your well made review.
Well I decided on the Interceptor in the end. I could not get a test ride on the Imperiale locally, owner forum on Facebook seems to suggest they only get about 60 mph top speed although the speedo often indicates 85 mph. I sold my old 125 because 60 was just too slow for me on A roads which I have to use some times. Plus I could not find a rack for it which is a must for me. So I decided on the RE Interceptor which arrives tomorrow. Slightly sad because a really did like the look of this bike
More great insight. Seems to both look and perform like a classically attractive urban bike, allowing the rider to look fantastic on the daily commute (comfy with great endurance/range & fuel economy, plus nimble in traffic) but also able to draw crowds during the evening and weekend bike-meets. But as you suggest, the Jury is out to how well it keeps its appearance after the first UK Winter Commute! Brilliant guys, keep 'em coming .
I've subscribed as I liked your review and I like the fact you gave MPG figures which most reviewers don't and you reply to questions. I've ridden bikes all my life and as I'm approaching 66 year old I'm looking for a smaller capacity bike that I can tour on (main off the motorways). So far this one ticks the boxes and looks good. Could you tell me how comfortable it is to ride long distance.
I'm currently riding a Benelli BN 125 while I take my full license . I have been toying with with buying this bike or Royal Enfield Classic 500 when I pass. I'm no speed freak and have been happy with the 125 although more power for the duel carriageways would certainly help! I'm 54 and I like the older 50"s classic look. Also this is about £1000 cheaper than the Enfield and you get a proper fuel gauge and gear indicator which is good when you're new to riding like me. When the time comes I'll test ride both but this has got the edge so far. Good review fellas.
I was the owner of a SR500 forty years ago..so i like this kind of motorcycles. It is a nice bike if you want to travel easy in the country. It is a beautiful motorcycle and it's good for beginners but also good for someone in my age (62) cause i don't want to be fast any more. I would like to tell you about the sound of your videos when it's blowing..i can not hear you so well. I like you very much..,keep up the good work!
Yes we like bikes like this too. We had severe winds that day, and many others! But we now have a new microphone that has solved the problem. Have a look at our recent videos! 👍🏼
I also had a SR500 in 1980 , I'm 60 and contemplating returning to motorcycles. The Benelli, Royal Enfield 500 trials or the Mutt 250 Hilts are on my short list
@@neilneil60nb I returned to motorcycling last year and I'm also 60, Have a look at the Herald Classic 400 - old school with reasonable power, after buying a modern bike (very scary) I traded it in for the Herald and love it.
I like your reviews better than all other channels in the moment. sincere, and you talk about the important things you will have to find out after buying, the riding experience, character, feel, usage scenarios and so on. The things a true rider really wants to know, and not get lost in too much technicalities. I am a rider, not a mechanic or engineer, and began in the 70's with a Honda XR 75 scrambler at age ten in the days of cafe racers, scramblers, vespas and labrettas, the cb 250, Nortons, Triumphs, and of course, the classic BSA. Used to watch sammy miller at trials and barry sheene on the track. You describe the experience of each bike so well, in a way i understand and can relate to. I collect bikes and am starting up a classic and scrambler bike rental in Thailand, so if oyu ever come her, come and try out whatever bikes i have and review them. Come to Koh Lanta Bike Week!
Saw one today for the first time, and i really like it. I wish though that they would do it with a 500cc engine, one that doesn't hit the red line so easily, making it a bit better for the motorway.
Another good and balanced reveiw - thanks, chaps! I first saw this bike at the NEC Bike Show last year - and it stopped me dead in my tracks. It looks better than a Bullet Classic, in my view. And with me being 5'6" tall, this bike is a better 'fit' for me. The Benelli's modest/moderate performance is what I want these days (you want more? Then pay more!). My only concern is: the 'Made in China' bit. I've seen a number of bike manufacturers come and go over recent years - leaving owners with attractive looking but fragile and broken machines that they can't get fixed. How can I, as a serious potential buyer, be confident that they'l still be here in two years' time...?
Thanks for your comments and continued support; much appreciated! As for Made in China, it’s not possible to tell in the short space of time we had it, but, this is commissioned by Benelli so it must surely meet stringent standards
Looks very impressive. As India has moved to BS6/ Euro 6 it's available in BS6/Euro compliant bikes July 2020 onwards . Silencer here sold is fully blackened but rest looks similar. Thanks for the nice detailed review.
This motorcycle is a workhorse, don't let it fool you, in India this motorcycle used to pull away RE customers but with the RE Hunter in play now it'll probably lose it's placing, it's taken the Ladakh road and is actually one of the rentals you can get to take on Ladakh and if it can continually do this as a rental motorcycle for Ladakh it means, this motorcycle is basically made for war. It can off road (not Motorcross), it's got enough power and torque. Cosmetically, it's better to switch out the stock exhaust for something shorter and get rid of the pillion seat, you will then see the real hidden gem that this motorcycle is (stock exhaust weights a ton so getting rid of it is going to get you a tad bit better power). It can take on backroads and motorways. Gears do need regular shifting to move up and down the power range, Brakes could be better, Load bearing is great, Riding position is fantastic for touring (and being seen), Finishing is top notch and in Malaysia I have managed to find a shop that can turn a tube tyre (puncture risk) to tubeless without changing the spoke wheels which is apart of the classic look, a 9/10 with this motorcycle especially once you loose the additional exhaust weight.
Now you have me dreaming again of riding about the British countryside. It's not a vintage Bonnie, but it would certainly be a blast. Thanks for your videos. Rob the Desert Rat. (Arizona).
I'm waiting to test ride one of these this week. To me at least, from the little I know, this bike should offer the "Joy" of owning a 1950s motorcycle without any of the "Pain" of constantly breaking down or having oil spots in the drive! RE have had to stop making the 500 Classic due to the emissions regulations. This Benelli Imperiale 400, being Euro 5 compliant should be a good option for riders who want to, or are forced to comply with emissions controls. I guess, if you are in a rush, this isn't for you, but if you want to experience the fun of a weekend out and look at the scenery on the way to a pub or cafe, this might just be the bike for you!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Well, I tested one today, and liked it so much that I've ordered one in Black! To be fair, I imagine, it is a little like riding an original 1950s classic bike was back in the day... ie not very fast but this one is without the vices!
I hade the pleasure of seeing one of these bike's yesterday with a Goldie style exhaust and it looked and sounded really good, excellent value for money.
Yes I love this bike and would have loved this sort of bike when I was young in the 1980s but they just weren't around. Actually there was an 18 hp 350cc Enfield Bullet but it wasn't regarded as being adequate in terms of brakes or reliability even by contemporary standards.
I'd definitely have one,. It's a great entry point into 'classic' motorcycling for hardly any money ( something like £18 per week on a 3yr PCP or £30 p/week on a 2 yr HP! ) and comes without all the inevitable hassle of a genuine 60-70 year old bike.
You could, of course, up the front sprocket by 1 tooth, or down the rear by 2, to lower the revs on higher speeds (also helping cruising mpg again)... Also, maybe, the front foot peg bar was possibly designed to have a certain amount of 'flex' to help with foot comfort? But like you, i would possibly replace/upgrade the bar to remove the flex... 🤔
Beautiful bike! On public roads this is what riding a motorcycle should be about. I really dislike those people riding on public roads as if they're on a race track, so implicitly I dislike sport bikes and fast bikes in general.
Looks good and sounds good. Excellent, thorough review. I think the chrome handles on the rear mudguard are for lifting the bike on and off the centre stand.
Hi. Been keeping an eye on this bike for awhile, positive reviews coming out of India. Think your excellent review is the first in the UK. A Bullet without the vibes ✌️😊. Having a look at one in the next couple of weeks so maybe an owner of one by the end of March. I'm looking at it as an everyday commuter motorcycle and occasional trips to Somerset from Sussex. Many thanks for the great review. Paul.
Some modern bikes try to look retro and fail. This one tries to look retro and succeeds spectacularly. I don't know what it's like to ride, but what a beautiful looking machine!
Hi guys-Great review. Please keep it up, I have seen the silver version and I must say I prefer this bike to all the similar bikes in its class such as the royal Enfield by looks and what a bargain. Ride safe 😊
THANKS for the FANTASTIC review! Here’s what I saw these days. I live in Beijing, a city with strict rules on motorcycles. But on my way to work, I’ve seen at least 5 different Benneli Imperiale in a week. I mean, dude, it’s pretty popular among the bikers with a good taste of classic bikes in China. I also noticed the safety concerns about it. Well I have to say, it’s a hot topic in the biggest Chinese motor-related forum. Some says that the bike may tremble with speed over 70MPH. So for potential buyers, you may want to wait a couple of months for the new batch of products.
MrDarcy & the Ol'Man Update here A biker reported to the authorities that the brake suddenly stopped working, causing an accident. Though the dealer told him it’s all fixed, the brake was out of control again. There might be an abs ring bending problem. (Translated from a government related website)
A really pretty little bike. Perfect for a Sunday poodle down the pub. Benelli have plans to make a 530cc version producing 30hp. I'd definitely buy the more powerful model. I hope the uprated bike will be in the region of 4k because it will represent excellent value for money.
Pretty good looking bike actually! The review did cover most aspects. In my opinion it did miss the numbers for the service intervals, which could greatly influence someone looking at bikes with a cost-effectiveness in mind or someone with a tighter budget that downscales to something like this.
Lovely review and lovely bike. I like the bike, it's good daily commute bike back and forth to work etc.. it looks retro and like, the stance of it. Cheers guys. Great video. Ride safe.
Great review.. Very Informative and the Bike really looks awesome and has all that I'm looking for to return to biking now that I'm older... But the pillion seat looks narrow and small and am wondering if the missus will be comfortable on it for roadtrips? Any thoughts?
Is 33 a youngster? But I love the styling of the bike, it would definitely appeal to me if I were looking for a new bike. Just found your channel, really like the format keep up the good work! :)
I test rode one of these today. I was thinking of buying one to replace my BMW G310r (310cc Single so a reasonable comparison). Being a Brit bike owner I was hoping that, despite the lack of published BHP it might deliver it in a similar way to, for instance, my BSA C11 (250cc) whereas the BMW is obviously more "revvy". To be completely honest I've never been so disappointed in a bike. The one I rode (brand new) had no power, anywhere. I'd liken it to the feeling I got when I rode a Honda CB100N (many years ago) Completely flat and gutless. Can't really comment on handling or brakes as after a few miles I just took it back. I even queried with the dealer if there was something wrong with it. I Should add I've owned a lot of bikes and been riding for more years than I care to mention so this is not a kid wanting a bike to do 100mph, I didn't expect much but unfortunately go a lot less than I was hoping for. sorry Benelli. I would strongly advise test riding this bike before you buy (if that wasn't obvious) and hopefully it was just the bike I rode.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Just wanted to add I'm in no way having a go at your review, just expressing my personal opinions from a 15 minute test drive. Perhaps I should have given it more time but it was so "flat" that I completely lost interest. I'd love to see a torque curve for this bike.
A brand new Imperiale does probably feel gutless. I'v bought mine with 60 kms on the clock and have been running it in very carefully. I've now 1700km and have much more power now. I think this bike needs a run in period of about 3000 kms. As a proper classic used to be in the old days.
@@jaquesdelarue6149 I'd be very worried about any modern bike needing a similar running in period to an old classic bike. Things, not least of all in metallurgy, have come a long way since then and, although I'm not suggesting red lining a bike from new, "Running in please pass" signs are (or at least should be) a thing of the past. For what it's worth I was going to buy the 650 RE but, as a comparison, also test rode the Triumph Street Twin and just couldn't live without it. Obviously loads more money but torque to die for and a quality feel second to none. (Sounds amazing too).
Good looking bike to compete with Enfields Bullet. Indicators should be black and a bar end mirror would look better. Shame its made in China and not Italy but £3,500 is a great price.
splodge 57 Yes totally. We personally like the mix of black and chrome. It looks classy. I couldn’t see too much behind in the mirrors so that’s a good solution
I also like the look of this bike! I have NOT ridden one but have a good idea what it would feel like due to a long life of riding experience on many different bikes. To me it's a very attractive modern old school Royal Enfield or BSA ? It's a shame they don't make a 500 or 600 cc version with 40-50 BHP as i think that would give this bike a much wider market and I might even buy one!
This bike hits an untapped niche of the market: Simple, economical retro bike that _is not straining at its limits_ at highway/motorway/freeway speeds. (I suspect it's more comfortable than the R.E. 350s at those speeds.) That it's also smooth-running, comfortable, and retro-handsome makes it just about perfect for me: A cheap commuter & weekend hobby bike on which you could also do occasional modest road trips without undue fatigue.
530 is scheduled for July this year but would more than likely be a month or two later because of the pandemic. I think I’ll wait for that before taking the plunge.
I laughed out loud when the camera zoomed out at 7:22 and reveals you look like Hercules sat on his sons pushbike😂. I agree they seem to be sized for around 5ft10 or so
Thank you for your latest review 👍 This model is not available in Germany at the moment, so i do not know the retail price. In my opinion this would be a good bike for starting your "motorcycle carreer", especially for girls. The dainty and slim appearance of the bike would go well with female pilots. Moreover the retro style would be more popular with the girls. I, as a father, would also be reassured if my daughter would ride this bike because of the gentle power delivery of approx 20 HP.
The question is, is it worth about 1K more than a Lexmoto Vendetta? I've not seen either bike yet in the flesh and am looking at both for a second run-around.
I brought one today, just waiting on the PDI to be completed. Could anyone who owns one tell me if the pillion seat is easily removed as I think just the single seat would really look better.
Good review, personally I went for the RE350 Classic as the Benelli is sourced from China. Virtually identical though with minor differences and like the RE I’m sure a joy away from motorways and fast roads.
Hi I think this Bike is really nice I own a Triumph 1050 Speed Triple and an Royal Enfield 535 Continental GT, I am looking to add to my Bike stable and Really fancy one of these Benelli Imperial 400s thank you for the information on this bike guy's it's looking good for me to buy one.
I dont often comment on RU-vid review videos....but feel i have to as a UK owner. Would seriously recommend getting hold of a second hand RE over one of these. Had mine since June and has never been right. When it is running the engine is lovely and smooth but where do I start..... 1. The gearbox is atrocious on mine, in fact is under warranty repair at moment and the solution is too short a throttle cable.......now I cannot see this as the issue personally but I hope I am wrong, mainly for the fact that what is the QC like in the factory if this is so. 600 miles on clock and cannot use bike with no indication as to when it is coming back. 2. Pricing for servicing is all over place at dealers, i paid almost a £140 for first service, others with bike have paid between £60 and £70 pound, surely consistentcy of pricing could be limited by importer? 3. Fixings used are diabolical. Shear off at any attempt to tighten them, where they are generally loose. In fact I have removed the exhaust heat shield as two bolts had sheared off totally whilst driving and left me with ugly nuts welded onto silencer. The bolt remaining in nut couldnt be removed by any means and had started to chew into soft metal of the fastener, solution was to grind off nuts and not have a heat shield as dealer didnt seem bothered by this fact. I have changed the fixings where I go with Stainless Steel ones. 4. The seat is not that comfy, well not compared to a RE one anyway. Hour in saddle is max I can manage. 5. Brakes just really upto job nothing else, was shocked at how bad they are....and yes I am used to poor brakes :) 6. Have had to adjust chain twice to take up slack, this is in 600 miles. I dont want to be a hater as really wanted to like the bike and tbh I may have been just unlucky......the UK owners forum has a couple of other owners suffering from niggly little issues, which shouldnt be on a new bike, no matter how cheap!! In comparision I have had cheap chinese 125cc bikes that cost me a third of this with no issue at all.... Hope to get bike back soon and hopefully I can get some positivity back...
Thats a shame! Thank you for commenting because in a review of a new bike we can’t discover these issues. I hope it’s a one-off and hopefully your issues will be resolved
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Agree with what you said in review though, could be a lovely bike for the price point....shame about these issues. Still wating on return of bike so looks like part supply might be an issue too...oh well such is life :)
As an update it seem throttle cable and clutch cable needed to be replaced and now gear box is better...other issues but at least rideable now 1200 miles and counting 😁😁
Hi, could you tell me if the pillion seat is easily removed as I have ordered one but would like to change the pillion seat for a rack, or if it looks good, then just leave it as a single seat?
Great video. I got this bike 2 months ago 1. You have done a complete justice to this bike in your video 2. Loved the music. Keep up the good work. Love from India.
A great looking bike, I am concerned though that the lack of dealerships is an issue, nothing I could see in Essex at all so if one was purchased where would you get it serviced and what about spares an accessories?? Good review very encouraging..
@@MrDarcy-OlMan thanks guys, spoke to MotoGB today and they confirmed no dealers in Essex however, there is a dealership in Kent about an hours ride from me so not to bad should I wish to pursue this. Thanks again for your help and again for a very honest assessment of this intriguing bike..
Hey could you help me? I'm living in Vietnam, I'm 6'3 and don't have the budget for a big motorbike like a Triumph, do you think this would fit me and my long legs and not make me look like a giant?
Triumphs are pretty small tbh. I’m the same height as you as o you may be able to judge if you pause the video where i ride by. I found it fine to ride
