First, RIP Sam Wyche, second, thanks for uploading this video as I was 10, and I am still a Bengals fan. Next, we will get our QB and offensive line pieces and hopefully make it to the playoffs for Sam.

Still haven't to this day seen a QB that can exexute a play action as well as Boomer did. He was so smooth with it and one of the prettiest throwers of the ball I have seen as well.

Because you are owned by Mike Brown. You'll need to wait about 35 years until he passes away for someone else to take over the ownership situation. Bengals should set their sights on winning Super Bowl LXXXVIII. That would be Super Bowl 88. I predict Bengals 20 - Niners 16 as Boomer Esiason III leads Cincy on a 92 yard drive with a TD pass to Cris Collinsworth III.

@@caponsacchi true even though if you said that the D would hold the 49ers 13 pts before "The Drive," I would have said that the Bengals would have their 1st Super Bowl. I wonder if "prime" Ken Anderson was the QB would they have won. Hypothetical of course.

If that's not an exemplar of a coach, I don't know what is. Sam knew so much about his players and their personal lives, and he showed genuine compassion. He also held them accountable. I bet there was a lot of respect in that locker room. And if Billups hangs onto that ball, I think the Bengals win the Super Bowl.

Reggie Williams #57 of the Cincinnati Bengals. During his career he recorded 16 interceptions and 23 fumble recoveries and 62.5 sacks. In his final two seasons with Cincinnati, he was appointed to an open seat on the Cincinnati City Council in 1988 and was elected for a second term in 1989 on the Charter Party ticket. Although he was a starter for 14 seasons, Williams played most of his career on a bad right knee. He has had 24 knee surgeries since his career ended. He had the first surgery in 1979, plus knee replacements as well as multiple infections. He played in super bowls 16 and 23 NFL Players Association's Byron R. (Whizzer) White Humanitarian Award in 1985 NFL Man of the Year for 1986 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year 1987

But those other 3 teams were really good too. 1975 team lost to the eventual champs and the other two teams had their starting QB injured.

Interesting thing on the 05 Bengals Cincinnati was dominating Carson was my favorite right behind Esiason. If Carson knee wasn’t blown out by Pittsburgh I believe 100% we would’ve won that super bowl…because we all know who won that year.
@curtiswilliams8285
@curtiswilliams8285 2 года назад
@@200MPHINTHEWRONGLANE I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment though I think The Colts would have been a tough match up honestly but injuries are part of the game. Keep in mind Chris Henry got injured too and the Steelers couldn't cover him well before that. IMO, it's close between the 1975 and 2005 and ironically both teams lost to the eventual champs but that Pittsburgh team wasn't as good as the Raiders team that won the SB.

Honestly Paul Brown had a good grip on NFL success by having the staff home by 7 pm. Bill Walsh & Joe Gibbs were famous for living at the office & outworking the other side. As long as one side is working like that others have to put in the same hours. I’ve been told it’s hard to have a family life as a coach in the NFL.

The Bengals also lost their (IMO HoF caliber without the injury) DT Tim Krumrie at the beginning of the game. He was credited that season with 152 tackles as a NT, which is a stat that is as mind boggling as anything Gretzky did. One of the worst things about that era of football was the lack of a salary cap, however. Teams like the 49ers and Cowboys outspent their counterparts by quite a bit too in the days before the cap and free agency.
@caponsacchi
@caponsacchi 5 лет назад
Sam says there will never be another moment like this after winning the Division. The Bengals accomplished the same on the arm of Ken Anderson in 1973 (his 2nd yr. as regular Bengal QB). Then after the dismal "78 and "79 seasons they were champs again in '81 and '82, again with the accurate passing of Anderson. The difference? The Bengals accomplished the first title in the age of the Dead Ball, with the defense of the Steel Curtain leading to 4 Steeler Super Bowl wins. And in '82 they lost their first play-off game after Anderson staked them to a 2-TD lead that was erased by the Jets rushing all over the field (McNeil for 200+ yds). But in ''81 they outplayed the 49ers in the 2nd half of the Super Bowl, with Ken Anderson's 3 TDs falling just 5 points short. But they set records in passing and receiving (Dan Ross) and played like champs. By contrast, look at the individual statistics--both passing and running--in their 2nd Super Bowl. Montana's closing drive didn't win it: the Bengals poor performance lost it.
@curtiswilliams8285
@curtiswilliams8285 4 года назад
Well Sam was telling the truth in that the Bengals has never had a team as good as the 88 Bengals since and it's the best Bengals team of all time. Yes, I know the 81 team was fantastic too. The difference is, Imagine Ken Anderson in that offense with the running game that the 88 Bengals had. Not even the 81 Bengals was that potent running the ball. The 1973 team was the closest to that. The 75 team was great too but there's a reason why Ken threw for so many yards. They would have won in 88 if Ken was the QB. That's not knocking Boomer. He had a great year(And an underrated 1986, BTW so he wasn't a "flash in the pan") but Ken was the best QB in Bengals history. It is what it is.
