Isaac Bruce? almost as many yards as Randy Moss and T.O and a Super Bowl champ. No HOF Simeon Rice-122 sacks, second fastest player to achieve 100 career sacks and a Super Bowl champ. No HOF
юсиф алиев Isaac Bruce was a terrific wide receiver that is underrated/overlooked. So was Holt for that matter. There’s a logjam at WR, it’s going to be difficult for a lot of excellent wideouts to get in. Because of the way the game is now, different rules and different offensive philosophies, there’s a lot of quality wideouts with numbers that dwarf HOF WRs of the past. Same thing with quarterbacks.
Y.A. Tittle and Johnny Unitas were the more popular quarterbacks of that time. Bart's a lot more appreciated now as the leader of that great offense that the Packers had in the 60's, but he didn't have the passing numbers that Tittle and Unitas had.
That Terrance Moore guy made the argument in my mind: he won FIVE championships! Five! Like he said, it's more than Bradshaw and Montana, as well as the likes of every single quarterback ever minus Brady. For winning five championships he is not talked about nearly as much as other QBs.
Honestly a lot of the most underrated players are more like the O-Lineman, Fullback, Defensive Tackles, Defensive Back, Special Teamers n some RB N QBS
Troy Clark I mean if ur a smart ass about it then technically every position but what I was actually talking about was those positions are where the more underrated players are and they had all QBs n WR on their list...im sorry u missed what was going on here.
lemfandango if u have a superficial mind-set that thinks like a child under 10 years than yes it's just as "boring" as world history. But you like the things in life with deeper meaning or you care more about truth n reality than action and embellished story lines than the video would be realistic n not boring at all.
Every QB, running back and Wide Receiver knows that the core of their success is the effectiveness of the offensive line. People who have never played high school football does not understand. The same way the success of linebackers is often because of the effectiveness of their defensive tackles ability to hold off blockers. I didn't understand the role of defensive tackles until I played linebacker in high school. In other words, if you've never played organized football, you may not understand why James Long is saying.
@@deandrenicholas2545 yup. Gore is the definition of longevity and consistency. Hes been a reliable work horse for a very long time but never anything special.
If you look back at his stats, Warrick Dunn was really underrated. Hed be even better in today's NFL. Hes near the top in yards from scrimmage all time. Some years hed be his teams lead rusher, other years he was big in the passing game.
No. You mean he WOULD have been in the HOF... That injury did in fact happen unfortunately and it cut his career FAR too short for HOF consideration. You can't just guess at or assume a career that didn't happen. You really just can't...
10. Len Dawson 9. Brian Westbrook 8. Ken Anderson 7. Randall Cunningham 6. Marvin Harrison 5. Andre Reed 4. Ottis Anderson 3. Charles Haley 2. Roger Craig 1. Bart Starr
Doesnt make sense that Roger Craig, Charles Haley, Marvin Harrisn, Cunningham, Reed, and Westbrook are all on this list. Those dudes are hall of famers! And if theyre not, they deserve to be!
I am with you. Roger Craig and Tom Rathmun are the reasons I'm a 49ers fan. Sure SF were in the midst a dynasty when I became a fan. I was huge and still am a huge Husker fan. So when those 2 were in SF I became a fan. My NFL team could be much different.
Westbrook was much more than sproles. Westbrook was Faulk-lite. Sproles is more of a scat back. He has never had to shoulder the load and carry the ball 200 plus times a season. Westbrook did that many many times. Honestly, I love both guys because im an Eagles fan but comparing them is honestly insulting both of them, mostly westbrook.
NFL Films doesn't get enough credit for putting in amazing clips. The clips of Bill Walsh mixed in with Terrence Moore saying Ken Anderson was a hippie Joe Montana is the best thing I've seen all day.
Scott Farell he came out in the lste 90s with that voice and catch phrases like how can I be the man when you the man and you freak like you like to be call that we need those is football but really not as well as he thinks he does then again look at it actually seems to be one of the voices on actually he's just annoying he was early in his career
#1 should be curtis martin. Almost 15 k rushing yards (easily hall of fame numbers)for his career, 10 straight 1000+ yard seasons, and it feels like most people dont even know of his existence.
Steve Largent inspired Jerry Rice, held the record for most receiving yards for Decades, may have had the greatest hands of all time. Do you know who he is?
I was a huge fan of Barry Sanders growing up and i remember how Curtis Martin's game reminded me of Barry's. Not because of his height, Martin was almost 6ft and had the agility of a smaller back. He was a top tier athlete that could jump over the offensive line and had the speed and agility to make people miss. A good comparison of body types would be that of Marshall Faulk. The only reason Marshall gets praise over Martin is because of the offensive system he was in. Marshall was part of the most explosive offenses in history, and Martin was stuck with the Patriots (before they were "The Patriots") and then the Jets....(enough said). Martin has roughly 2k more rushing yards than Marshall and played one less year (Marshall was in a passing offense which is why he has over 6k passing yards). I agree completely that Curtis Martin is underrated.
He was infinitely better than Brian Westbrook but doesn't get talked about AT ALL anymore. It's a shame about Holmes' neck injury. He was something else.
Earl Campbell and Eric Dickerson like other commenters mentioned. Also Emmitt Smith, Shaun Alexander, Terrell Davis, LaDainian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, I'm sure I'm missing a couple others (Adrian Peterson, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton all probably get in that conversation too). All had 3-4 year runs that were absolutely amazing. Holmes' run probably makes top 5 but I don't think his run is the best ever.
Yea maybe media didnt rant about him but truly anyone who would watch him play almost instantly knew he was good I dont think he should be on this list.
There’s a lot of guys from the 60s-80s NFL that suffer from their numbers being usurped so dramatically. Kinda like they said about Andre Reed. It was such a different sport. You look at HOF and Pro Bowl QBs from the past and without context it seems crazy that they were even starters. Jim Zorn won ROY as QB of the Seahawks in 76 with 12 Tds 27 ints and a 47% completion rate. They talk about what a great mobile Qb he was but he never rushed for more than a couple hundred yds in a season. Admittedly Largents numbers do stand up better, but still, guys like Rice, Moss, Harrison, Megatron, Fitzgerald, AB, and so on make it unfortunately easier to forget guys like Largent. Which probably made him ideal for this list lol.
Don Maynard is hugely underrated. He was the NFL's all-time leader in receiving yards when he left the NFL in 1973 and remained so for another 13 years afterwards. He probably gets overlooked because he played with Joe Namath, who overshadows everyone and everything Jets-related from mid to late 60s. Namath and Maynard might've been the best QB-WR duo in pro football during that time.
Eric Metcalf should be on the list. He done everything. Was one of the best special team return men of his time. Was a good enough running back and a good enough wide receiver. Pretty sure he made the transition to full time WR in Atlanta and had a thousand yard season. Pretty sure he led the league in all purpose yards when kickoff and punt returns were counted in. Metcalf should definitely be on the list.
it’s funny because I forgot about him on an under rated list 😂 I agree with you wholeheartedly but his name always gets lost in the pile. I guess that’s the definition of under rated tho
Thanks....I'm one player in...you saved me a half an hour. No Frank Gore. And after NFL just released his story harping about how nobody knows him. Wow can you sink any lower nfl? You're already a cliche of yourself...not for long
Moore is a good example of an actually underrated guy, unlike most players on the list. Bart Starr is definitely overrated, laughable that they put him at 1 imo
I'm shocked Marcus Allen isn't on the list. Guy was amazing. If he wasn't sat on the bench for the majority of his career he might be the all time leading rusher.
I'm a Cowboys fan but I loved that Eagles era which is hard for me to say lol. Westbrook was hands down my favorite running back during that time besides LT. Was so fun watching that offense with McNabb, Westbrook, Owens.
Brian Westbrook was like Barry Sanders if you watch their highlights back to back it’s crazy. He’s the fastest human being I’ve seen over 10 yards. Look at how many of his plays where defenders couldn’t touch him.
So many great RBs go underrated, especially on bad teams. In recent memory Steven Jackson and MJD both accomplished ridiculous things when you figure the defenses knew the ball was going to them every play.
Secret? Brian Dawkins is my all-time defense of player. So I used the Eagles ever year from 03-07 and Westbrook screens or out passes were literally unstoppable. I didn't realize it was a secret. I loved the 05 Eagles, one of the best teams in history!
With Starr is on this list they should've included Otto Graham. He played in the championship game 10 straight years, between 1946 and 1955 ,winning 7. His passer rating of 112.1 in 1946 was a record until Joe Montana broke it. He still holds the yards per pass attempt and career win percentage records, including an undefeated season in 1948. He was Brady before Brady and hardly anyone mentions his name.
I’m a Vikings fan so I might be biased when I say Antoine Winfield is super underrated. Didn’t make the flashy plays, but was consistent and one of the best tackling corners of all time. Especially while being only 5’9”.
@siler7 If you're in the HoF how can you be underrated? You have literally been officially acknowledged as one of the greatest of all time. Also, w/ Art Monk, specifically, he's one of the most celebrated football players of the 1980's w/ multiple Pro Bowls. Save the underrated lists for people who were great but haven't gotten the credit and awards they deserve. A good example of an underrated WR is Harold Jackson who had great numbers for the time he played, but no one talks about him.
The fact that Fred Taylor isn't even mentioned in this just proves that he is the most under rated player of all. 11695 yards, 66 touchdowns over 13 years. For a team that was rarely that competitive.
Darrell Green..an amazing player who is still probably as fast as some current players with shut down coverage and a gift for big plays...I dont think Washington would have won the 3 Superbowls without him and tootsie rolls
Yep. And 2 of those years saved the Andy Reid era. (06 and 08) Vick saved it in 2010. But the golden era was over after Superbowl 39. Fortunately the good times are here again!
Reasons why I thought Mcnabb was on this list. I mean dude was throwing to Pinkston and Thrash for years. Reggie Brown, Charles Johnson, Torrence Smalls. Dudes like Stallworth and Kevin Curtis who are No.2 on every team but No.1 for the Eagles. Only 19 games with TO n look what they did in those 19 games. All that n his best WR really was a RB yet ppl think Mcnabb sucks especially in Philly.
@@moereese34 mcnabb gets my now for underrated because he was EXTREMELY solid but gets a bad rep from Philly idiots who were starving for a championship. Sidenote, I'm a Lehigh Valley cat and huge Eagles fan who sometimes hates this fan base
Westbrook was good, but he wasn’t really the entire offense. We still had people like Terrell Owens, Donovan McNabb, and DeSean Jackson. Edit: Don’t get me wrong he’s one of the best running backs in Eagles History.
RIP BART STARR😭 Go Pack Go!!! Thanks for your dedication and loyalty! I remember seeing him at Brett Favre’s Jersey retirement. Shame he is gone... NFL lost a good man that day. Also Marvin Harrison is at a perfect spot on this list. Great WR.
Another comment about Ken Anderson: When you look at the 49ers' Superbowls of the 1980s, Ken's offense did about the same production against the 49ers defense as the *Dan Marino Dolphins and the John Elway Broncos* , with the Bengals' defense keeping it close until the end. If you can match the production of Marino and Elway against one of the greatest teams ever assembled, you deserve a LOT more consideration. (Also, the 1981 AFC Championship should've been mentioned; he was able to throw fairly accurately (including two touchdowns and no interceptions) in -50 windchill.)
I believe the main point is that out of all the quarterbacks, how many time you think starr comes up from a poll of let's say 100 people where he is in the top five or ten for best quarterbacks ever.
@@johnsonjoseph1983 He comes up more than most QBs from his era, I think with maybe the exception of Unitas Starr gets mentioned the most, and quite a bit more than the likes of Anderson or Dawson. Starr being on the list is ludicrous in my opinion much less #1.
I remember watching the 18-1 patriot season and Welker seemed like the more dependable target, Moss just made the big plays, I agree he should be talked about more
As a Skins fan, Brian Mitchell was not known for taking it to the house but he was definitely the most consistent returner. He'd get a bunch of yards every time and change the course of the game with field position. He could always find the hole.
He’s actually pretty funny. The “comedians” they have on the show are terribly unfunny. Whenever someone is being funny, it’s one of the sports journalists or sports radio guys.
Scott Ferrall is funny because of his voice IMO and the things he says (but mainly his voice) and the comedians can be funny like Jared Freid and Flula Borg but yeah mainly the comedians aren’t funny
Arguably the most dominant wide receiver ever (based on his numbers vs others at the time), and most people never heard of him. I'd say that qualifies for most under-rated player by a mile. I agree.
I remember waking up back in sixth grade at 6am and watching recorded versions of this show while eating cold pizza (so my mom wouldn’t get mad) truly one of the best times. Thanks NFL films.
Curtis Martin and Tim Brown come to mind. Underrated and under appreciated. No one ever mentions Tim Brown when they talk about the greatest wide receivers of all time, but he only had nearly 15,000 yards, 100 touchdowns, and nine straight 1,000 yard seasons while not even being a starter during his first four years in the league. Imagine that.
Hardy Nickerson !!! Definition of underrated!! NFLs best linebacker most of the 90’s. Pass coverage like a safety n hard nosed tackler. Best cover two ILB to arguably ever play the game.
After smoking a blunt. But coming home with my brother in Baltimore, he show was the icing on a great cake of hanging and partying. He would invite callers to open beers and party with him and the mic'd up the sound of a can of beer poppin'. Man those were the raw non PC days of sports radio.
If I were to add someone that was underrated, I would put Neil Lomax who was a quarterback for the Cardinals (81-88) for all those years. His career was cut short due to an arthritic hip injury but in the 80's he was a damn good quarterback.
Honorable Mentions in no particular order: Andre Tippett: 100 career sacks, 5x Pro Bowl Lee Roy Selmon: 78.5 sacks, 6 straight Pro Bowls Steve Largent: 13,089 yds, 100 TDs Irving Fryar: 12,785 yds, 84 TDs John Riggins: 11,352 rush yds, 104 TDs
3:53 one of the greatest throws of all-time ... Donovan McNabb back foot jump throw, through 2 outstretched diving defenders, into B.Wests bread basket ....for a TD .... in the SB
These dudes don’t know what underrated means. They act like if you’re a good player, you’re not underrated. All these guys are good, but they don’t get the recognition they deserve. It’s about them having talent and success, but without the attention to their talent and success
Marvin Harrison on a list of Underrated Players, getting yet again, underrated, because of Peyton Manning. Damn. I had no idea, that Manning ran his routes, had to get open, AND make the catch. THAT'S CRAZY!
I don’t know that guys name from the Rams but he had a 1,000 yards every year up to 2012 ) edit Steven Jackson was the player but if he not on here smh
I once met Herman Moore at a high school game. I was my school's manager taking stats from on top of the press box, he was there as color commentator. Very cool guy. Note-I was like 5 years old when he retired, and if I saw him play, I wasn't paying attention.
I'm a Cardinals fan, but I will cosign this. Moore gets completely overshadowed by the rest of the great receivers of the 90s. From 94-97 he was the most prolific receiver in the game...and considering the receivers in the league at that point (Rice, Carter, Tim Brown, Reed, Irvin) it says a lot.
Brian Westbrook was such a phenomenal player and will always be a player that’s in my top 5 favorite players to watch and favorite players in NFL history! That man got some real props but I still consider him the most underrated player of all time in my book
Ricky" Running" "Watters! Over 10,000 yards Rushing, great pass catcher also, two super bowl rings, not in the hall of Fame! "For who and for what will haunt him forever!"
This episode was made before 2014 since it talks about Andre Reed not being in the HOF, which he now is after 2014 election, I believe Cliff Branch should be on the list since hes not in the HOF.. 501 receptions, 8695 receiving yards, 67 TDs - 3 super bowl rings, almost the same as John Stallworth 537 receptions, 8723 yards, 63 TDs.. and dont get me started on Lynn Swan who had less than 350 receptions and is in the HOF
If people want to talk actual underrated players how about Eric Allen, Eugene Robinson, Ricky Watters, Tony Boselli, Herman Moore and Mike Alstott. People talking about hofers just shows how they forgot actual underrated players.
One NFL player that does not receive his due in Canton and to me is considered underrated is former Miami Dolphins Linebacker #54 Zach Thomas. This dude was amazing on the gridiron. He was tough, persistent, and most of all played the game while always giving 100%. Look him up and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Jason Taylor made it to the Hall of Fame but some don’t remember that Zach Thomas was just as good if not better than Taylor. For the love of God enshrine Zach Thomas into Canton already!
Neal Anderson Chicago Bears running back that had to fill in some big shoes after Walter Payton retired. He ran, caught passes, and blocked as good as Sweetness .
randallross420 not even close. Lavonte David is a 1x pro bowler whose career hasn’t wrapped up yet. Aeneas Williams was on the 90s all decade nfl team, made 8 pro bowls on losing teams and yet most fans don’t remember his name. He is the personification of an underrated player.
The fact that Starr is in the same argument for best Packers QB alongside fun-but-can't-get-it-done Favre and Rodgers says it all, especially this week with all the stories coming out of Green Bay. He was clearly a winner and a leader.
If this list aired today, I have one name in today’s game that should be on there: Harrison Smith. All time great safety, should be talked about in the same sentence as guys like Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott and Rod Woodson, but barely gets mentioned when the “pros” talk about today’s best safeties.
