Hold on- you name the one incident that caused 1 death, and several injuries by one unstable car driving individual, and equate him to all the people on the march? sarah ben shmayel my friend, I too am an apostate, I’m an ex-Christian, so I understand where you’re coming from. My point is this: I went through a phase in my atheism (that I think a lot of folks who recently faith go through) where I didn’t respect this guy bc of his criticism of the “new atheist” movement, and what I saw as his lying about religion. Now, I still disagree with him in many ways on religion, but I no longer allow that to color my whole view of him and his work. For example, the point he makes here is valid, and I’ve seen him do good work elsewhere (his recent interview with Steven Pinker, for instance), and I respect that. One can disagree with him on some aspects of religion, or other topics, but still respect him for other reasons. I would probably agree with you that the Abrahamic religions are the worst on the planet, and that we’d probably be better of, as a species, as a whole, if they completely disappeared from the earth tomorrow. That said, there are many good Jews, Christians, and Muslims, and there are translations/sects of each of these faiths which are less peaceful, “de-clawed” readings of the faiths, just as there are highly toxic, fundamentalist versions which are incredibly destructive and dangerous. My thing now, as opposed to before, is that I understand that these religions are not monoliths, but incredibly varied, so they should not be so readily generalized. All that said, I still stick to the fact that we’d be better off without them, and that religion is used for control, and we’d be better off without them, especially the Abrahamic variety.. ✌🏼
