22+ years your gone. I still can't wrap my head around that. So talented. So humble. So sincere. He never got his due. He was so under rated. Noted more for his beautiful face, rather than anything else. Although indeed, beautiful.... there was so so much mote to this man. So much more. He is sorely missed. Benjamin Orr, your greatest legacy that you left for the world was and is your son: Benjamin Orr Jr.
Beautiful gorgeous Mr Benjamin Orr! I love his voice as well as his personality and looks. He sounds a little bit, speaking-voice wise, like Gary Cole as Jack Killian in the old t v series Midnight Caller. A very soothing, calm and rather sexy voice! Oh, Benjamin! ❤️wish he was still with us.
His speaking voice was so soft, husky and he just sounded like a nice guy. From what I have read and seen he was nice and no one seemed to have anything nasty to say about him.
Benjamin Orr:. Your missed. We grew up with you from our teens thru High school, college, military enlistments, marriages, children and now we are senior citizens on AARP. You've been gone from this planet close to a quarter of a century and still we seek you out, listen to you, watch you, and sing along with you. You are immortal on film and recordings forever. More generations yet to discover THE CARS, and thee one and only: BENJAMIN ORR. We had you all our lives, sadly your one and only child, your son, your greatest legacy did not, as you succumbed to the cancer that ravished your body and took you away when your boy was a mere 4 years old. That's the biggest loss. Prayers for BENJAMIN ORR JR.
Thank you Debbie Thomas for sharing this incredible interview, it is very telling of what kind humble man he was and also shows his sense of humour when he reacts about the comment "You're hot" ... he must have heard this a billion times and a nice funny way to reply. Then that same woman tells him his mix or production put the vocals back... so wrong :( It is such a brilliantly mixed and produced album. I wish there were more interviews to listen to or watch of the late great wonderful Benjamin Orr.
aw, I'm so happy we can listen to his interviews still on the 'tube. Just cause he isn't around doesn't mean we can't enjoy the archives and I'd imagine most entertainers would be happy to know they've left such a legacy behind. A down to earth guy that made me want to pick up the bass again
God, the patience of this man. The silly & redundant questions, not to mention the constant questions in regards to The Cars while having an interview on the topic of his solo album...kinda annoying but he was so gracious.
I agree that this is one of the best Benjamin Orr interviews. I've always been a great fan of his, but sometimes he can be a little evasive in interviews. On this one, he's answering the questions more specifically. And I love his breathy, sexy voice... sounds like he may break out into singing "Candy-O" or "This Could Be Love"!!
+RETRO REWINDs Or sometimes he just acted like he didn't want to be there, getting interviewed. He was great but I'm just being honest. I agree with you though, he certainly wasn't overly talkative and full of bull like most celebrities are.
the interview is just with him for his solo album, no Ric involved. i think Ben didn't talk much in other interviews about the Cars cause Ric ran the show, and Ric was a talkaholic so I'm betting Ben figured why bother. I'm happy being able to hear Ben's voice as much as possible! beautiful to hear talking and singing.
Did anyone else catch where he says under his breath, "You noticed" (at 2:32) after the caller tells him that she thinks he's very hot?? LOL!!! Humble, or not so humble??
It was weird that the caller (who sounds like an idiot with that comment), asked why the producers suppressed the vocals in favor of the music. That was a rude thing to say.
Hmmm... Really? Benjamin doesn't feel any competition with Ric? (at 8:06). Ben's solo album charted higher than Ric's so maybe that's why he didn't feel that way.
