Had Him as my AD (Athletic Director) for my Junior Year of High School (Socastee High School). Great Man, very Funny, Loved him!!!! Hope I can see him again one day
For those who don't understand the analogy. He's saying players are too busy looking good, doing interviews, looking sharp and talking outside the game instead of playing and winning the game, just like a cat is too busy cleaning itself and being lazy all day. He's dead right tho when it comes to this. You hear a lot of players talking, not doing.
We scrimmaged a new high school back in 2013 and this guy was the coach and he gave me and my friend advice to stay away from drugs, alcohol, and that hoochie coochie and it took me about 10 minutes to realize it was this dude haha. Honestly he’s pretty unhinged but he was a nice guy who definitely cares about the game and I respect that. It’s easy to make fun of him in this interview but after meeting him in person I really wanted to be a dog in that scrimmage. And even though my football career is over with, i will never forget that scrimmage and his off the cuff advice
I still remember seeing this rant on SportsCenter one night. Just recently with CCU ranked and playing good football it reminded me of “that Coastal Carolina coach meowing like a cat” on SportsCenter about a decade ago I literally had no idea what his name was so I had to look up CCU’s past football coaches to learn it, but here he is once again Coach Bennett, thank you for one of the most entertaining press conference rants ever 👏
11/24/19. Saw Coastal Carolina play at the University of Louisiana Monroe yesterday. I know Coach Bennett is no longer at the stump for the Chanticleers (too bad because CC lost to ULM, 45-42!), however I could not help put think of this AMAZING conference from years ago, as I watched his former football team take the field!! This is one of the GREATEST speeches by a coach of ANY sport, at ANY level, EVER!! Truly, and I mean this with great sincerity and respect, but Coastal should have a statue of Coach Bennett at the Stadium there, along with an engraving at its’ base of this entire fantastic speech!! Be a dog!!
Upon entering the study I immediately caught hint of an inebriating odor. It was as if the air had left this part of reality and been replaced with a venomous vapor. Then it all came together in an exceptional brilliance before my eyes. There had been no tea party that afternoon, there was no crime committed, and it was I who was the victim of inexplicable circumstances. I had broken the promise made to my father. I had forgotten to go shut Bo up. I had to go shut Bo up.
He should make a book, sort of, "What Animal Player Am I?!", featuring lots of animals like cats, rhinos, raccoons, foxes, chamaleons, snake, bull-frogs, etc... It would be the ultimate coach guide :3...
He is one of my favorite coaches of all-time. He is a great coach, and a great person . Let me see if I can help you all understand what he is saying. He is trying to motivate his players to play tough. A lot of players nowadays are worried about the way they look. If he gave this speech to his team, clearly he was addressing an issue with the team. Everybody running around trying to look pretty or cute instead of playing smash mouth football. You can also look into the difference between hurt vs injured. If I am hurt I can still play but if I am injured then I cannot. I wonder how many players on the team were hurt vs injured. How many players were willing to put the team needs above self interest. They used to say, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." If you are a former student of the game (player) we all should know that this is talking about.
He's talking about his football team to be more aggressive, mean like dogs. Dogs don't care how they look, how they act, they go after it. The analogy he used was basically a stray cat sneaking into his house, couldn't get out and both the cat and his dog going crazy. I presume this is after a loss.
Everytime I feel down I look at this and it just cracks me up...Lol. Thanks Coach. He's really saying stop worrying about how good you look in ur uniform and just play some damn ball.
That is one of the funniest coach press conferences I ever saw. I guess I understand what he meant -- but what a convoluted way to get his point across. You couldn't make this up even if you were drunk or high.
