i have 3 x EW2480 here, i like them a lot! HDMI 2.0 on them are because it does have HDR. If you want my settings for the monitor, here it is: -Picture: Brightness: 75 Contrast: 55 Sharpness: 5 -Color: Color Mode: User Color Temperature: User Define (R90 G80 B95) Advanced - Gamma: 2.4 RGB PC Range: RGB (0-255) Also, make sure you have, in your video card colors settings, selected True Colors (32bit), RGB (the best one), 8bpc (which is pretty much standard), and Full (not partial/limited). Also, use the ICC Profile of the monitor (most of the time called the "driver"), this can be found on the BenQ website (US website have it, but not the Canada website version, strangely) if your video card only have DisplayPort, you will have to use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. I would suggest an ACTIVE adapter as it will give you more color settings. Also if you want to use HDR on the monitor with a DisplayPort, you need a DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI adapter/cable, because only DisplayPort 1.4 support HDR. And HDRi look really ugly as it poorly emulate HDR, so i keep this off all the time. But picture and color wise, i really like those monitors! And also very easy to dust off and clean as it doesn't have sides (only at the bottom) and since the power supply is external, most of the heat is not in the monitor, so this is a good thing as well, just don't lose the power supply! It have VESA holes on the back, 100x100, so you can use a 3rd-party stand or wall/desk mount. Very nice touch to be able to turn off the power button LED in the monitor menu!
Really thanks for the video! I m gonna buy either a GW2780 or a EW2780! Which one will you recommended more? I m a casual gamer, play a little sim racing games but don't play fps games. I heard that EW has a better built-in audio but I don't care about HDR or HDRi. I mainly use the monitor for working and playing casual games. Do the GW and EW perform the same to me? Which one do you think? If they perform the same in terms of gaming and work display, will GW be a better choice as it is cheaper.. thanks!
In your video u mentioned the EW2480 does not reponse as fast as GW2480. So I guess EW2780 is also not as responsive as its predecessor GW2780? So in terms of this, will the GW series be better for me as they got better response in games?
Neither are gaming monitors, but given what you've said, namely for the speakers, I'd get the newer EW if I were you (especially for its 75hz) - input lag won't really bother you for the games you play :)
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks for your recommendation! I am not looking for a gaming monitor like any 144hz or that. Because my major use is for working. But in your video, it seems the GW performed better in terms of the input lag as you said 'the EW not as responsive as the GW when you moved your mouse'. For the 75HZ and 60 HZ, I guess it won't matter cuz I may not be able to feel the difference. Do you still think it will be worth to pay more for the newer EW? (Consider the only pro is its better speakers)
@@haochenghu8707 just depends what you value more, as you've seen in my video I've given all the differences and comparisons, it's for you to make the decision. Input lag would really benefit competitive gamers, as mentioned in the video - so given the two, I'd personally pick the EW
that's a good question: here's my understanding: The coverage is how much of the colour space the monitor can do; while the volume is how much of the gamut is available to the monitor, regardless of if it can hit it or not. If it's 92.5% coverage, it means it's 92.5% accurate to hit the sRGB colour space; while the 101% gamut volume means it's technically able to hit all of that colour space. Hopefully, that makes sense? Ideally, you'd want 100-100%, but that's extremely rare in most monitors. Some more info: www.eizo.co.uk/knowledge/monitor-expertise/understanding-color-gamut/
Nice review! Could you please confirm one thing again? Is the 75Hz refresh rate set by default or you have to select it manually? I am asking this because many 22" monitors these days come with 75Hz refresh rate but still their user manual recommends 60Hz.
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks. So the 75Hz would run without any performance issues and no future durability issues? (For example some people deliberately overclock 60Hz monitor to 70+ Hz and they sometimes create issues.
Ew2480 or gw2480? I will use connecting my laptop (provide both hdmi and Dp port) to work with photoshop and watch film. I'm in doubt because of the absence of the DP in the EW2480. What you suggest? Hdr is an important advantage for multimedial use? Compliments for the channel!
HDR is rather pointless unless you have use for HDR (ie gaming or editing). As for the differences, think they were mentioned in the video and/or have my old GW video linked in the description :)
hey man, great review. I have purchased this monitor for my Asus Zenbook 14 ux433fn nvida. my question is that i already downloaded ICC profile from tfft central database. 1) So while using this monitor with the source from laptop, should I change the ICC profile or downloaded another one? 2) what if i disconnect the laptop while i take for work , will the color profile be maintained of monitor or previous one ?
ICC stays on your pc/laptop for the source device (or system wide), so it'll be fine if you disconnect. However, I'm not sure if it'll screw up your laptop's built-in display, if you're using window's built-in ICC profile changer. If it does, look into Color Sustainer, as you can specify the source
I recently found your channel while searching for monitors. Love your detailed and comprehensive reviews! I have been looking for a monitor for a week now. Couldn't find the best bang for buck for me. If you could suggest a monitor around $200 what would it be? I want a monitor for photo and video editing & I don't play games much so I think I don't need 144hz. Thanks!!
Great video. How did you match the SpiderX with DisplayCal. My results were very different from Datacolor's own utility (which I find more confiable). There were no presets available for this device. Thank you.
@@TotallydubbedHD I mean DisplayCal calibration, in my experience, doesn't seem to measure colours right with the SpiderX. Values clearly differ from SpiderX own software.
@@WinstoneSmith haven't had any issues for years with it, though, it's hard to know what's exactly the right figure. Who calibrates the calibrator's software, and certifies it lol. But, I will say that my SpyderX is quite similar in performance to the Calibrite CC Display Plus, which I also use in conjunction with the Datacolor on DisplayCAL.
@@TotallydubbedHD Thank you. Perhaps a driver issue or some detection problem at any stage in my particular machine. DisplayCal measures a big green tint that's really not there (in contradiction with Datacolor's software). Does DisplayCal show you any presets for SpiderX?
Thank you very much for this review. On the official website there is no information that this monitor supports frequency 75. This information was helpful.
Can you please suggest me a monitor which is under 14k INR. I have seen many but some has manufacturing defects, some does not fulfill my need.I need a 75hz IPS monitor with response time
Does the headphone jack support earphones with mic? I have a Envy 17-J laptop (2013-14 model) with a 1600x900 monitor resolution. Is it better to keep that in it's original resolution when using this monitor or is putting it on 1920x1080 fine?
how far away is the monitor placed against a wall? (I would like to place it on a shallow desk, the closer I can place it against the wall, the better. Thanks!
Would you recommend paying £15 more for this monitor compared to the BenQ-GW2480? For gaming on fps games and AAA games and general browsing/movie watching
@@TotallydubbedHD Hey thanks for responding man, I'm debating if i should get this for £30 extra over this one www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-243V7QDAB-23-8-Inch-Monitor-Speakers/dp/B06XZKTR88/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=24+inch+phillips&qid=1595349120&sr=8-2. Just a student trying to spend his money wisely but appreciate the help.
I play CS:GO, and I would like to know if this monitor have less input lag than the one I'm using right know (HP w2207h TN panel 5 ms, I think it's a 2011 monitor)
Did you feel any difference between B.I.+ of the EW2480 over the B.I. of the GW2480? I read that B.I. just overexposes the blacks (becoming grayish) instead of adjust the brightness. Is it true? Thanks
It shouldn't do that; from memory it adjusts the temperature; I guess if it's adjusting the contrast blacks could seem greyer. Can't recall noticing a difference between the two.
@@TotallydubbedHD The B.I.+ of the EW2480 should be better... Maybe it's all the same in the end, with a very low brightness adjust. A light sensor with a good range is a priority, but I can't find alternatives for these prices. Thank you ;)
Nice Review. So, I am considering the 27 inch version of the same monitor (EW2780). 24 inch will be a bit small for me. So, do you think I should get the 27 inch model? Also, are you facing any problems so far?
Hey man, did you get the EW2780? How was your experience with it? Does the HDRi feature give a noticeable improvement in the overall pic/video quality......or is it just a gimmick? This model is around 3k more that the GW2780 so wanted some first hand info from an actual user before I order it. Thanks.
Hi there. I am a graphic designer. Can you please suggest which monitor (27") to buy under 20,000₹. I am confused 😬 b/w - Dell P2719HC - BenQ EW 2480 Which has more color correction!
I am a writer-translator. I spend almost 8, sometimes 10 hours in front of the screen. I don't play games. In this case, shall I go for Benq GW2480, EW2480 or Shall I go for LG 24MP88HV?
@@TotallydubbedHD I read that "it's great if you don't sit in front of it for long periods of time where it's at a desktop distance from your eyes. The text can look more jagged which can cause eye strain after a while. But I use it as a second monitor so it's fine. If you are going to use a 27 inch as your main for long hours at a time as a desktop screen I would upgrade to a 1440p panel (but it does mean you could need a more powerful PC depending on the tasks you use it for). My GF has the 24-inch version of this monitor and it's really great, you don't get the pixel density issue on her screen" Would you agree or not?
@@yetanothert7 you'll get less ppi at 27" at 1080p, that's a fact - but for eye strain, I can't agree with that comment. Still if you do have the budget to go for 1440p, I'd always suggest it - love 1440p, and can't ever imagine going back to 1080p myself.
Hey, So I work in IT and have to stare at computer screens all day so do you say the older model GW2480 would be good enough for that or do you recommend it's worth getting this newer version?
What shud I pick this or LG 24 inch MK600M as both of them selling at same price here in India ? Please suggest i want a monitor for video / Photo editing as well as media consumption.
I'm confused which i Buy ,BenQ ew2780 or MSI optix g 24c4 my most of use is trading please tell me that msi is curved will it be good enough to analyze charts
hey I was considering getting this as a secondary monitor to just watch youtube and other random stuff on while i game on my primary witch is the benq 24xl11p 144hz i wanted another benq so it would fit the same esthetic im going for already having a benq monitor would you recommend this for secondary usage like youtube, twitch ,discord and just general web surfing while gaming on my primary thanks a ton for reading
Hi again, I got my Benq ew2480 today, I'm using it as an external monitor from a laptop Asus Zenbook 14 UX433fn but unable to find 75hz under display adapter settings. It's only showing 60hz. Anyway work around for this ?
How should this compare against Philips 246E9, seems it has higher srgb and ntsc? Gaming isn't of a concern, I just need it for entertainment, casual graphic editing, and productivity apps.
@@TotallydubbedHD No worries, appreciate the response. Might go with the Philips since it has 126% sRGB over this Benq with the same price point. Thanks for the helpful review :)
@@TotallydubbedHD I retract my statement LOL, realized going with over 100% sRGB will make the average use a bit more saturated - since it'll be a second monitor to my MBP 13 it might bother me. Will either go with this or the GW24! :)
@@TotallydubbedHD Yeah but it is hard to tell which one looks better through the lens of a camera.. I know you said they look equally stunning but is that the case when hdr is turned on in the EW?
Hey, The settings menu seems to be broken. Half of the menu is invisible and the left half of he menu shows up to the right side of the monitor. In short messed up. Any thoughts on this?
Hi again. Could you please share reference where you got to know it has native 8 bit color depth? Specifications say 8 bit but they don't mention if it's 8 or 6+2 frc. Just like every other monitor from any brand. All mention 8 bit.
can you please help me??? i also bought this monitor yesterday from flipkart and everything is fine except can't playing the speakers !!!!! i have a external speakers but i can't play this monitor's speaker!!!!!! pls help me out!!!!!!!!
Good day. I've just purchased this monitor unfortunately I can't maximize its full resolution to 1920x1080, the max I'm getting is 1080@60hz this is with my Macbook Pro. Is there a way I can fix this in MacOS? Thank you so much in advanced.
My laptop screen size is 13.3 inch. When i connect to the monitor, the left and right part of the monitor display is not covering entirely. How can i change those settings?
@@TotallydubbedHD Got it. Actually my laptop display resolution was set to 2560×1600. So it did not fit to the monitor screen. Now i changed it to 1920×1080. It's completely fine now. Thanks.
Thanks! On top of my head, I can't think of one in the same type of size, but I'm not sure how much this monitor is in your region - but it might well be worth considering (will be a little more than $200 though) - as it goes for £195 in the UK: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QOOk-E53Opk.html
can you control the brighteness from the computer through the app monitorian? when it's totally dark, what % of brightness does the automatic sensor set?
You can set the brightness via your OSD; there's no software as far as I'm aware. And no idea about the percentage; but feel ree to reach out to BenQ tech support.
why did you not show the sound? Also that is disappointing about the response time. Most people will want to game on it otherwise they buy TVs and not monitors unless they just want a plain computer monitor for graphic design and work…. I just bought it on sale
Help me my friend. I am looking for a budget monitor both for design and to play warzone in between. How many days have I been undecided. Not exceeding the 250 dollar limit.
@@TotallydubbedHD I want your general advice. Please help. Which model would you highly recommend? Budget monitor for both gaming and design. Please help
@@TotallydubbedHD 127€ GW model, 152 EW model. Thank you. I saw better your video, EW has real 8 bit, and some more decent audio, and 75hz freesync compatible. He has also ebook mode, I'll read many pdf files
I bought this monitor while running this with a Linux (Pop os! ) setup, I can't seem to increase the refresh rate beyond 60Hz. Is anyone else facing this issue as well?
I bought this monitor. BUT IT SUCKS! When I listen to soundtrack from Interstellar I get sound distortion (low frequency). This monitor does not like low frequency. Do you get the same sound?
@@TotallydubbedHD I agree but they BENQ on their website claims that this new monitors do not make distortion. I can even share their link. Can you check your monitor does it make those distortion sounds from 120-150 hz. You can search for this sounds in youtube. My other HP monitor which is top rated on amazon with it's low quality sound does not make any distortion sound. I will never buy BENQ again lol
I only got it for review; I don't own the monitor. Honestly, if you're looking for a monitor with good sound quality...I think you've got your priorities wrong lol
If you want good sound youre almost never going to find it on a monitor, especially in this price range. Since you like to use the monitor speakers, I strongly suggest you buy some decent speakers for your monitor.
