I owned a 6.75L Arnage and your comments about stopping it are so correct. You MUST consider stopping the beast if you have decided to give it the beans from a start as it keeps on accelerating before the breaks kick in!!!

Excellent review of a fantastic car, the colour looks like "wild berry" so hope that is helpful, beautiful hand-built car that I am sure many would love to find in their garage. Prices are rising slowly but so are the prices of parts and service and repair sadly, but what the heck you only live once and the enjoyment of this piece of artwork is immeasurable. Thanks guys loved this.

A fun video, but do be advised that the brakes on these are fabulous. The hesitation you experienced is a result of hardened flexible brake lines - they swell from the inside - and a sign they need replacing. The engine, by the way is aluminium alloy with nitride hardened austenitic steel valve seats. The sports mode is meant to form things up, not name the car go faster, hence the harder ride.

TheCarGuys.TV Excellent, I'm sure the new owner will be happy. I have driven RR and Bentley for forty years, and even took the old RR School of Instruction years ago at Hythe Road. I knew the public relations gents at Conduit Street, and the guys at Mulliner Park Ward since I was 15, and they knew I'd eventually be their customer. The newest car I've ever owned, a 1991 Mulsanne S is my daily driver. Cheers.

Brake spheres need to be tip top and best change, recon steering rack and shim/replace front ball joints. A secondary specialist will sort it. Everything is massive and needs to be spot on. Bills come in multiples of £3K but remember these were £190k+ when new.This is the last throws of a real Bentley.Or buy a GTC and own a throw away car!!

The Continental R is a real classic and arguably the best Bentley ever, up to and including the present day. The running costs are a bit scary, but it will definitely appreciate, if kept up. The Azure convertible or Continental T are even more desirable and likely to appreciate. This car's purple interior and exterior is a bit flash and does it no favors, and it sounds like the brakes need servicing, as they should work much better than these knobs seem to claim. If you can afford to run it, it's a dream car.

Well sure, the SC is rarest of all. Only 73 were ever made (compared to 1500 of the R and 350 of the T). I've never even seen one, but I can guarantee that an SC is already an appreciating classic. Mike Tyson owned one of these (maybe not such a selling point...)

That's probably true, but just the rarity of them would keep the values up. Classic car buyers aren't so concerned with practicality anyway.

Huge fan of the car guys ; also a Bentley Continental R driver . If you couldn’t feel the difference in “sport” then the car was defective, and it’s a fully powered braking system so it might not feel as you expected .

If i could pick ANY Bentley modern or old, i would pick a dark metallic green Brooklands. BUT this old gentleman looks amazing also.

Oh yes please. I love the Brooklands. I presume you mean the big two door model that looks like a Mulsanne. It is the only car that I would consider getting if I decide to trade in my 1964 Silver Cloud III.

Years ago, friend bought a new one and I had an opportunity to drive it shortly after he took delivery. My impressions then were that the interior was beautiful but the ergonomics were lacking. The car was very powerful, in fact, far too powerful for the weak suspension. The latter seemed to lack even basic anti-dive geometry. It was delivered misaligned and with the tires not correctly balanced. Over the next few months, the car spent so much time at the dealership being repaired that the new owner quickly sold the thing. The only one that I would even consider for the prospect of price appreciation would be the Turbo RT.

Auto Trader, Pistonheads, and a selection of luxury car dealers would be a good start in locating a fine example of a Conti R. Expect to pay £38-60k for one.

Didn’t even recognize the origin of the carpet: lambs wool. These could be two guys selected randomly from a pub's patrons and set loose for their very first drive in a super-luxury car. They know nothing about the car's history - and are learning how to drive it as they go. Why is this on RU-vid?

Bear in mind the early cars 91-93 didn't put out anywhere near 385bhp. More like 325. Then around 360bhp up to 96. Only then did the R get 385, and had the same brakes as the earlier models. The rear suspension costs more than two arms and legs if anything goes wrong, plus, until 94 they didn't get the 17inch wheels as standard, only 16s. If you want one get a specialist to check it over as certain areas are prone to corrosion, and it's a bespoke build so panels are ludicrously expensive, especially electrolysis corrosion near any paint flaking. Some of that is so expensive to repair on the early cars they aren't financially viable. Having said that, get a good one and they're the best car Bentley has built since the mid 60s, and are even viable as daily drivers. My cousin ran a 93 for 5 years, putting 55k on its 29k buying mileage with no expense other than the usual expensive servicing and consumables. Ps. The sport button just slightly firms up the suspension, and keeps the car in a lower gear for longer to use the blackhole of torque better. And if the ride wasn't as good as a roller in standard waft mode, then I guarantee there's a suspension issue that you need to sell both kidneys and liver to put right.

lol, almost certainly. My first wife complained if I so much as thought out loud of buying ANYTHING she didn't deem necessary. But first wives, like diarrhoea, come and go, and by the time I married again I changed my tack. Went out and bought my Bentley. First she knew of it was when she got home from work. That worked so I went out not long after and bought a Honda Gold Wing....lol.....

Great video, many thanks - almost identical to my own car, right down to the age and colour! But I think you have a problem with the brakes on that car because I find the brakes inspire a lot of confidence and are superb - however, at 20 years of age, there are many cars around which require a complete overhaul and you may have one in need of that. Also, your suspension looks a little low and this has a very significant impact on ride quality. Great to see a new video uploaded on the Continental R!

Thanks for the feedback and glad to hear from a fellow Conti R owner. Since filming the car has undergone a complete service and refresh at Bentley Hampshire, which has addressed many of the issues except the brakes, which remain unconvincing. It could also be that jumping from a supercar into the Bentley means they suffer in comparison to modern stopping power.

I know what you mean about the comparison with other high performance cars, it's a very good point. But I think you still have a problem because the brakes on my own car certainly inspire confidence - when I press the pedal (which is wonderfully floor mounted of course!) I have total confidence I'm going to get the stopping power I need, but it wasn't the case before I had them overhauled. If you can find a copy of Autocar 23 August 1995 on Ebay, they have a full road test of the 1996 model year identical to both our cars, even in colour - and they don't have a bad word to say about the brakes or, indeed, handling. The only area that really comes in for criticism is the ride, which they believe should be better on a car approaching £200k. If ever you are in the Birmingham area let me know and you would be welcome to do a comparison!

Here in the states at 70 mph you will get about 21 mi per gallon or better. US gallons.
