You down grade the a400 for things that can be adjusted with stock spacers and the shim kit for drop. The a400 shooting high means not enough drop - for you. That is why it hit your cheek too hard. You can easily add a different shim and give it more drop and more or less LOP to make it mount better. Sounds like the browning was just lucky that it fit you correctly out of the box. The beretta can easily be made to fit you or anyone, easily.

Good points. You certainly can change felt recoil some through the available adjustments. Thank you for the comment 👊 Stay Target 🎯Focused (Hebrews 12:1-3)

Out of the box the a400 comes short for cold weather shooting, ie a jacket or two is your extra spacer to get a longer LOP.

Isn't this dude sponsored by Winchester who is joined at the proverbial hip with Browning. Here in North Texas we have seen several Browning's ceracoat scrape off and the steel rust. Add to the price of the Browning's stock fit that a gunsmith would charge to cut and refit. The only negative that is legit on the A400 is the weight.

Greetings from Colorado! I have 3 Beretta Xtremes in the family plus the A400 plus. No issues, between the 4 guns, we have fired thousands of rounds through them. Not one issue. With Browning firearms, I have always had problems. I have a Citori O/U, 3.5 chamber, trigger issues, I have a Browning Gold, trigger and jamming issues. I may have pointed this out to Steve in another video. I will never buy a Browning.............even if it's given to me for FREE

A handy feature that you missed mentioning in this video as well as the in depth video on the A400 is the unloading. Much safer. Rack the shell out of the chamber and then lift the loading shelf and pull out on the bolt release. Very handy in tight quarters and as I mentioned safer. Nonetheless great videos! Adjust that beretta with the shims and you'll be in love. I had a original maxus in the past and the failures to eject had me fed up and out buying the A400 xtreme plus.

You can pull the rounds out of the mag tube on the maxus very easy by pushing up the lifter and then hitting the side catch for the rounds in the mag and then remove the round from chamber. At least that’s what I do.

I pick Reliability over everything else. Ergonomics can be fixed with more training and trigger can be adjusted or replaced with aftermarket version. If the gun doesn't cycle 100% it's not for me. Beretta should have been clear winner. I don't have either brands, so it doesn't matter to me.

Great job. Browning seems great in a lot of ways. Reliability is huge though. In the rice fields and marsh of south Louisiana I see way more Benellis and Berettas than anything else. I shoot a Beretta 3901. It is super reliable.

I’ve been hunting with my original maxus for over 10 years now. Dunked in the marsh a few times. Thousands of rounds while hunting and at clays, not once has it failed me. And I can count on one hand how many times it’s had problem with ammo. Twice with bum reloads, once from a factory target load that had a bad/ out of round crimp and it failed to chamber.

Not gonna lie, I love your videos, been watching you and your brother for a while but I felt like this was a video about shilling for browning. I don't mind you saying you prefer the browning but I'd have liked to see more reasons why each gun would work for more than just you (ie, the drop of the Beretta stock is better suited for cold weather shooting so the gun doesn't have to be as high up on your shoulder, I didn't see things like that, I felt like there was more reasons given for the outside shooter to choose the browning). That's just the impression I got, but I still give it a thumbs up because I like that someone is at least taking the time to do comparison videos and spend as much time as you did doing this video, and I'll keep watching your guys' videos. Best shotgun channel on RU-vid.

You really need to stop hating on the A400 extreme plus. It was obvious to me that A400 walked away from that shoot. As soon as the Browning had cycling issues. Steve A400 extreme plus is the best auto loader on the Market. Also the A400 has I believe most of their parts corrosion proof. But I could be bias because I love my A400 extreme plus. But good job my friend. Stay safe. I want to see the A 400 extreme plus against all of auto loaders on the market. But I will say the franchi Affinity is an amazing gun also

Kick- off system of Xtreme Plus is the best in the sector. Perceived recoil on the cheek can be as claimed but it's definitely the lightest recoil on the shoulder. To be fair, t's better to try the recoils on the table as they do it for the rifle recoils. A400 XP recoil will be much less since it's heavier and it has better recoil reduction system.

Knocking on 10k on my a400. 3/4 of that being target loads and I remember once so far I shot the last shell and it didn't fully eject, I had to dump the shell out of the chamber. Mine was off for me out of the box. I used one of the shims and the wedge now its perfect every time.

Interesting comparison but it misses the mark. The most important factor for me is the ability to practice. I shoot trap and skeet a lot to improve my skills for shooting geese. If the gun won't cycle sporting loads then it does me little or no good. For that reason I bought a Beretta.

Great reviews, but maybe just a little biased seeing that the Maxus is the older cousin of the Winchester SX4, seeing Browning and Winchester are owned by the same parent company and share most of the technology with both. Let’s see if you can pick between the Maxus 2 and the SX4??? Another great parent company comparison would be the SBE3 and A400 plus.

I just bought a Beretta A400 Xplor that would not cycle out of the box. Called Beretta and they said it’s a 6-8 week process to even look at the gun and even suggested that I could find my own gunsmith to look at it .At my expense . A warranty is only as good as the company behind it.
@TargetFocusedLife
@TargetFocusedLife 3 года назад
Hi Robert, sorry to hear you are having issues. I would like to get my hands on an A400 Xplor and test it out. I am surprised that you are having cycling issues. Did you give it a good cleaning and use good lubricant? I love the Otis Dry lube targetfocused.link/otisdrylube If it is cleaned well my next question would be the quality of ammo. How old is the ammo and has it been stored in a cool, dry environment? Lastly, how many rounds do you have through the gun? 👊 Stay Target 🎯Focused (Hebrews 12:1-3)
@robertbradshaw3508

@@TargetFocusedLife We bought the gun last week and it came disassembled in the box. I did wipe it down and swabbed the bore but did not see excessive grease or lubricant and it looked good to go. I shot about 30 rounds and included several different brands (all 2 3/4, 1 1/8 oz - Winchester AA, Remington STS and Aquilla). At this point, I decided to stop shooting it until I could get the gun checked out. It would not cycle any of the rounds into the chamber and most did not eject or jammed. We carried it to the local range (Georgia Gun Club - they have a rifle and pistol indoor range as well as sales and a gunsmith). They advised sending it to the manufacturer. Beretta should get the gun today (fingers crossed). I thoroughly enjoy watching the shooting exhibitions you do. The content and quality of your videos is outstanding. Thanks for the response and I appreciate the recommendation on the lubricant - I'll give it a try.

When it comes to my waterfowl gun all I care about is reliability. Recoil and smooth shooting is also pretty important if you are shooting a whole case of 3" or 3.5" shells in a hunt so your shoulder isn't killing you by the end of the hunt and Beretta does a good job at it. You might feel it a little more in the face than the Browning but I dont tend to feel recoil when hunting. Like sighting in my 300 Win Mag is awful, but I cant even feel it at all when shooting at a deer. Lol. I've had my A400 Xtreme since they originally came out in 2012 and I can honestly say that 2.75, 3, or 3.5 I have never had a single jam in the gun. I'll choose reliability 100% over anything when I comes to waterfowl hunting. Reliability is the main reason I very much dislike all the Benelli SBEs. If you have bad footing or get a weak shoulder because you are standing in the marsh swinging for a bird and you loose your balance you take a good chance of the Benelli hanging up. My buddy has the Browning and ive hunted with it and it is an amazing all around gun, but I still take my 12 year old Beretta all day long for reliability. 👌👌 P.S. a bunch of my friends all shoot Benellis and they are good guns don't get me wrong, but I cant count how many times a flock of birds have been crossing over their shoulder and they kinda had to bend in a wierd position to get the shot off around the edge of the blind and they get one shot off and it hangs up.....the inertia systems just are not for me. Lol.

I also had trouble mounting it, not enough to stop me from blasting pheasants and geese, but enough to be noticeable. It is also heavy, which in waterfowl, is not that big of a deal. That being said it is still one of my favorite guns, my shoulder is never soar and I love to shoot as fast as I can. Everyone who shoots it loves it as well. (Please note I am a dude, pic is of wife)

I have a 1st gen Maxus Wicked Wing. Absolutely love the gun. When deciding between the 2 without ever shooting either, the deciding factor was the safety location vs the A400. I have the same preference as you. Crossbolt safety feels more natural on the back side of the trigger guard. I've even shot 1oz loads out of my 3.5" Maxus on the skeet field. Never had actual cycling issues, but about 50% of the time, the bolt doesn't lock back on the final shot.

Being a lefty, I’d pretty much narrowed my search to a Beretta A400 or Benelli SBE3. I hadn’t even thought about the Maxus until the local shop told me it could be set up to fit me for both cast and drop. Being a long time Remington shooter and preferring gas over inertia, it was pretty much down to the guns in this review. After watching these head to heads and the individual reviews of each, I have the Maxus 2 with the safety flipped and the cast shims set up for my preferred setup as a lefty…even with the downside of hulls crossing my face, the Maxus 2 just hit all the boxes, and birds, for me. A Maxus 2 is the refinement of the original Browning Maxus and demonstrates that Browning listens to their customers and potential customers. The nickel Teflon treatment and pegs in the rear of the forearm keep the forearm from getting loose and wiggling loose. Maxus 2 with a 26 inch barrel is my choice. So you get some support from browning? You picked the gun that had multiple reliability failures. How?
@Exodos1234
@Exodos1234 2 года назад
Great review, got the maxus 1 myself, did test the Beretta too. Maxus 1 has the fastest breakdown of any gun. Also you did one mistake in removing the bolt of the maxus and you lost time. Also cycling issues might occur in browning if you cycle lightish loads and you hold on pressing the trigger... Maxus 2 looks great patterns better (as maxus 1 does) but I think is the same as maxus 1 just with a screw cap for adding larger magazine.

I haven't had any problems with my maxus 2, but mine also doesn't have the fancy coatings on it. I have the vintage camo one. Cycled target loads right out of the box and has yet to jam.
@roosterboy7357
@roosterboy7357 Год назад
I haven’t tried to shoot a Remington 1100 overhead but I’m sure it wouldn’t function because the shell has to hit the bolt release for it to cycle if I’m not mistaking so I wouldn’t say that its a test of reliability as much as it is how the shotgun is designed

If your completely in love with a gun then don’t do a comparison video. It shows. Maybe find someone else to represent the A400. The only major reason you like the Browning better is the fitment and we all know that’s differing from person to person and also what you get use to. Reliability has to count 10x on the scale. Who wants a 2k gun that dosnt go boom every time. Gun should have been disqualified just off that.

question: You said that the Maxus had cycle issues when not held fast to your shoulder. Do you thing that could have been the same issue when shooting overhead? I say that because when you shot over your head the end of the gun was not held fast to anything. You were just holding it in your hands and not anchored against anything like your shoulder.

@variableknife4702

The over-the-head thing is really just seeing what the gun will do free-recoiling. The A400's heavier so I'd expect it to do better. It may also / or be over-gassed just a bit. That's fine if the mechanism can handle it, but it's not needed. TBH, I don't consider that necessary or helpful at all. YMMV and viewers might appreciate it. Maybe someone considers what an inexperienced shooter (without a strong stance) might see. IDK. The KO system drove me nuts. In the past I've been unsatisfied with the condition of the rubber / polymer (whatever) flexible cover. I also find I hold a shotgun tight enough that I start to feel spring compression, then I start thinking about my hold, and then I start dropping birds (clays). That's not a good thing - YMMV could be totally a 'me' thing. Thanks for taking the time to do any comparison at all - it's appreciated.

Recoil is a bit of a concern for me because a shoulder issue but so is having a consistent mount between shots and when I throw it up. I usually don’t mount the gun at address when I target shoot. Also I live in FL which means it would get wet allot. Thanks

Lance, there are a lot of good options out there that would do you well. First, I would shy away from any 3.5" gun and I would stick with a 3". If you want to minimize recoil I would stick with a semi-auto gas gun. What is your ideal budget?

Issues went away when using 3inch shells…. Not sure what happened there. The Beretta and Maxis were equally easy to clean. The beretta bolt and carriers stayed noticeably cleaner. Of course the super vinci and sbe3 were the easiest to clean but we’re not talking about those.

Most of the gripes you had with the A400 can be cleaned up with adjustments. I don't understand how you choose a more expensive, less reliable gun though. If I'm going to put faith in a gun out in the fields when working to put food on the table, I'm going to use one that I am confident isn't going to give me issues. The Maxus II having problems basically right out of the box is concerning...
