I am a big enthusiast of Micro 9mm's and small 380's. Shoot in clubs weekly. I have to say this gun is just a terrific shooting firearm. The Recoil rating is one of the very lowest, very little Snap. Break it down and you will see a solid built firearm. I now have three Nano's one now over 15,000 rds and broke it down and still looks like new. Built to handle the 40.cal. Solid gun. Trigger is a fantastic Striker fired DAO. Smooth and controlled all the way through. Beretta rates them at 6lbs of pull but they are coming in at 5.7lbs. The modular design makes it easy to change grips, or change parts if needed. This is a firearm you cannot make a judgement on by looks alone. You really should shoot one. We have had a lot of folks at our club make the switch once they shot the gun. Light Striker fired trigger fans that want a trigger that breaks like glass will bad mouth the Pistol. But others that shoot often will love it especially for carry and fast shooting.
@@jaymzpatterson2120 Riiiiiight. It’s personal preference. And ONLY personal preference. Any self-respecting gun owner understands this and doesn’t get caught up in fanboy bullshit. Why argue over something you don’t have to buy? Buy what you want and just go shooting with your friends for Pete’s sake. Just about every maker has something I like.
Recently put finished putting 10,000 rounds through my Nano. What a terrific firearm. Compare the build quality to any other gun in it's class and you will see they truly are built like a frigging tank. Love the DAO trigger which is extremely smooth, deliberate, in control all the way. Great for fast action shooting. Very mild shooting gun.. I got rid of all my light Striker fired guns. I ended up buying two more Nano's. Basically the same gun. Not many parts, (only 45) and solid as a rock. I also Bought a APX grip and placed on one of the Nano's. Fit perfect. The more you shoot the Nano/Carry, the more you will appreciate the mild shooting and the trigger. To the point that you will not want to go back. I have no doubt the Nano/Carry is built so tough that they will go every bit of ammo down range as any large defensive pistol. They are SOLID!
@@tophermanut97 Yes, easy fit, at magazines fit fine. Most parts throughout the gun are the same. Some variations, but not many. These are great firearms, Solid!
The Striker Fired Trigger is one of the best DAO on the market. Yes, DAO. Smooth, deliberate and in control all the way. Easy to get use to. And combined with the great shooting characteristics of mild shooting, easy to get back on target makes this a terrific gun. I love the Nano and Now the Carry.
I've got the full size and the Centurion. Both are fine firearms. Having the Centurion, I didn't see the need for the compact. This carry model I have an interest in. I think the slide serrations are a great look and serve their purpose racking the slide. Reading gun reviews/comments reminds me of reading motorcycle reviews/comments. Some just don't like anything at all different, and that's just fine.
If you don't want to buy a whole new gun you can get a compact grip frame and put it on the centurion and for like $50 USD you can turn the centurion into a compact. The rest of the guns are identical
I like the long trigger pull for a firearm that will often be carried in a pocket. I have always felt a light trigger pull in that situation might be inviting problems. I would like to see statistics on how many people have accident discharges compared to the percentage of people who defend themselves with a firearm carried on their person.
I carried a Kahr CM9 in a pocket for years in a galco pocket protector, soft leather. With long pull never worried about it. When I went to a P365 for pocket carry I found it fit the same holster but with the light short pull I wasn't comfortable with it. I found a full kydex with hook style draw, like the galco. That makes trigger, even the short light 365 trigger, inaccessible unless drawn. There are good options if you look for them for any gun/carry method.
MrZonacat1 Agreed. I highly doubt very many practice perfect trigger control when their life is on the line and they are shooting at a bad guy. I’m guessing will let the trigger all the way out anyway and then press another round not caring how light or heavy it is. We can stand stress free in a gun range all day long and practice good trigger control but honestly we don’t know what will happen until it happens. Love the DAO on a CCW piece.
Yeah, people act like there is ANYONE that likes DAO over single action or light short precocked striker setups for how they shoot... no way Jose! They like them because the probability of a ND is reduced, plain and simple, but without the complexity of a manual safety. And for those that only want to trust their kydex holster, especially if appendix carrying, google "glock appendix shoots self" and watch a guy very slowly and carefully holster his glock, you hear the click, it seems PERFECT, and yet he leans over and bang shot himself in the groin. If it aint precocked and it has a very long decently weighted trigger along with your typical trigger safety (although the glock had it too and it didn't save that guy), you have just a little extra insurance because things can go wrong.
Thanks for the honest review! Picked mine up in od green for $350. I wanted small single stack with a double action trigger just for added safety when carrying. So this hit all my check boxes.
Back when I wasn't really that into guns I bought a Nano. Had it a few years and shot it very little. Always thought it was kind of heavy for the size and didn't like that it didn't have a slide stop. The slide would lock back on an empty mag though, but without a slide stop it made dealing with malfunctions interesting. Nice to see they added a slide stop to the APX Carry. The Nano's reassembly seemed a lot easier...just rack the slide and it reset the screw on it's own. Not sure that I'd go down the modified Nano road with this one but good review nonetheless.
I love all APX. I just finished my collection of APX versions. I love the way it look, feels and shoots. I can't wait for companies to start making parts and accessories for this one. Thank you for the vid.
I'm glad Beratta updated the Nano and added the slide lock and ergos to APX. I don't see this as a major player except for die hard Beretta lovers. It's a crowded field and takes real innovation to stand out these days. I personally like the P365 since they've worked out the early issues. The capacity, sights, shootability and size are unmatched. In our range it's the most rented and in our shop, the most sold gun for 2019 to date, by far.
I think you are exactly right. A good option for big Beretta fans. As for the 365, I have no doubt that it’s the most rented. Very popular gun! Thank you and cheers!
I actually like the fact that it does not have the slide lock. After shooting the Nano for thousands of rounds, it got to the point that I wish all my guns were built the same way. I have a buddy that loved his Nano so much without the slide lock, he took his Glock and got rid of it.
Can you imagine a Beretta M9 carry? Lightweight but still metal aluminum frame, P365 style magazine and similar in size, but the big opened up slide of the M9 and give it a decocker only. I'd pay a pretty penny for that. I wish they would refresh the Tomcat line and at the very least make a .380 version. At the VERY least!
I’d be all over that! It most likely won’t happen but would be very cool to see. I’d also be on board for a revisit of the Tomcat. Thank you and cheers!
Superbly honest review of this excellent pistol. Too bad that so much of the market share is controlled by Glock and S&W to the point that is really hard for Beretta to gain any ground.
This is the gun I carry. I spend only a minimum amount of time at the range. In other words, I am not a sport shooter, and don’t enjoy the range. Having said that, I love this gun. Like other compacts, it is easy to carry and conceal. Most likely, I will never have to use it. And if I do, it will probably be short range and only need a shot or two. I paid $400 last year, and it is now available for $330 at the same place. Recommended by me for concealed carry.
The APX is a good pistol. I've shot one, handled a few and come close to taking one home on many occasion. Haven't seen the carry version at my local gun shop. Love the Shield; my wife has a gen 1 Perf. Center version. If I was in the market for another compact/single stack carry pistol, I'd definitely take a close look at this one. Thanks for the review and comparison!
For 340 bucks its a good buy. Has a little bit of style compared to other guns in this price range. Mine shot excellent right out of the box. Ive shot the cheapest of ammo and not had one hickup.
Not a Beretta pistol fan. Their shotguns are pretty good. That trigger is horrendous. That pistol would never attract my hard earned cash. There are way better options. 6 + 1 is decent in a single stack. Rather have my Ruger EC9S with the same capacity and a hellaciously awesome trigger. At $239 the Ruger EC9S is a no brainer. Just my $0.02. Love your videos! Always glad to see a new one. Cheers!
I hear great things about the EC9S. Hopefully I’ll get to bring one on the channel soon. The APX trigger was definitely a disappointment. Thank you and cheers Grey!
I have one. I went with this over a Glock for a few different reasons. I like the decocker and DAO trigger in a gun this small that will be carried for me AIWB or pocket just makes more sense. I can almost get 6 out of this as fast as I can a 43 so the DA trigger pull is not as big a deal as some are saying. To me it feels better than a Glock in the hand and after shooting it the DAO is super smooth and IMO has a more natural point of aim than a Glock or shield. It shoots flatter than a Glock as well. This thing is not a nano, I promise you that. I love mine and use it as my EDC
Great review! I like my full size APX a lot, and other than the look of the slide, this pistol is a much different design. The APX is the flattest shooting polymer framed handgun I’ve shot or own, the recoil in your video is much more pronounced for this design. In addition, Beretta makes swappable recoil and trigger springs, which give the APX even less recoil and lower trigger pull. I’m considering picking up the APX compact (for a few reasons), this carry model is not looking interesting to consider over that, especially with how the trigger stacks and breaks. I have long fingers like you so always love your big hands comments, lol.
Thank you Scott! I really like the double stack APX models but this one just didn’t do it for me. It’s all about the trigger and yes, those long fingers, lol. Cheers brother!
From a magazine flexibility perspective I find the Walther PPS M2 LE edition to be better solution. Nevertheless, I like the APX carry and I'll probably buy one.
KSGunguy... Thanks for the video. Back in March I purchased the APX Centurions in 40 S&W and just LOVE it. As I have said before, the issue is not the trigger. It is with the shooter. Leave your other guns at home and take your APX out on dates to the range a few times and before long you will come to love it.
I have the Beretta Nano and that is honestly one of my favorite CC's. Lightweight, thin, and very conceal able. I hated the look of the gun when you used the 8rd mag but it looks like the apx carry has taken alot of the 👎 out of the nano and made some solid upgrades. I will definately be picking up this gun asap.
Nice review KS, I own the APX full¢urion and have no problem conceal carrying either. Though sometimes in given situations as of late a pocket option as it pertains to my needs has merit. So while I lightened the trigger on both APX’s… on the carry I would welcome the trigger aspects as is, accidents can happen in a pocket carry situation along with AIWB. And in the winter months in a urban setting a pocket carry could offer flexibility when my edc may be encumbered.
My wife picked one of these up when I was in the gun shop picking up a gun. The recoil spring broke before I got to fire it. I contacted beretta several times and never got a response. It took me 6 months to even find one available to purchase. I got it yesterday, loaded up the gun and took it out. After the third or so shot I thought the trigger pull was going to make me sick. I tried to tell her but she liked the way it looked i suppose 😂
Thanks for the thorough review. I couldn’t find this for rent to check it out but your video helped me decide against it. As with any carry option personal preference is paramount and I don’t like that trigger. I also am not a fan either of needing extra tools to take it down. I honestly don’t understand how a company these days doesn’t have an easy takedown. With so much competition out there, this elaborate takedown is absurd in my opinion. Thanks again for the review.
I was on the fence still kinda am..but the review pointed out some flaws which are pretty important for the purchase..I gotta say it fits pretty good in the hand tbh..sc Canik I think is a pretty choice even though it's top heavy..ty
I have the Beretta APX Compact. I don't know what this is all about but it quickly became my favorite pistol. My Sig P229, Sig P365, and Glock 43x get a lot more safe time as a result.
For me the APX compact is perfect. Its the smallest gun I can hold comfortably in the grip, and the long slide/barrel is great too as they dont impact my ability to conceal at all. From a purely market perspective I assumed the APX Carry was a mistake (as is the new FN and CZ counterpart), the market is owned by the Shield, Hellcat, P365, and 43/43x. If these sell well I'll be surprised.
@@moneymig I love hearing people say that CC the compact and the apx full-size. I carry the apx carry everyday and it is so much more comfortable. Which is the entire point. To carry a gun on you at all times that is not only unnoticeable to people around you, but also you as well. Comfort is everything
I took a APX Carry and the 365 to the range and compared each side by side. Shot each with 200 rds of mixed ammo. The Carry has much less recoil and snap. At the last 50 rounds the 365 I really started to feel the hurt from the 365 but the Carry was so mild, I could have gone on all day. Both guns ran good but had 6 failures with the 365. Not sure if it was the gun or the fact that I was riding the slide. Very little room for the off hand if you have a size large. 365 just too snappy for me. Actually the 365 shoots very similar to the Ruger LC9S. Both guns nice for carry, but not guns you want to do a lot of range time with.
I know what you mean about the trigger. I like the trigger to break well before it reaches the frame and, to me, that’s one of the best features of Sig’s X-series of P320’s. Picture Tevya from Fiddler on the Roof here, “On the other hand...” that was a pretty damn nice mega-hole grouping on that paper target so it must not have hurt you that much. This is where I wonder again what the lag time is before companies catch up with the groundbreaking, game-changing, never seen before, insert your favorite cliché here feature of the Glock X-Series (I guess we can call it a “Series” now), the extended grip. It’s a feature I’ve liked for years on my Kahr CW9 but wonder if it will catch on elsewhere. I’d really like to see a Walther PPSx (I’m downright startled at how much I like my PPS!) or Mossberg MC 1x. I’d snap one or both of those up right now if they were available but I don’t see an APX Carry in my future.
I do agree about the 320 trigger break. Much better for my style! As for the shooting, slow fire does show how accurate the APX is, no doubt but I assure you the rapid fire target was Swiss cheese! A PPSx would be very cool to try out. I am a wrapping on the Mossberg vid and I (mostly) like it. Very reminiscent of the Shield to me. Thank you and cheers Jake!
Agree Justin, just put 15,000 rounds through one of my Nano's. Love these guns. I have one Nano I placed a Carry Grip on. Nano mags run great in it. My Carry now has over 3,000 rds and running like a top. These guns are mild shooting. In fact the Carry is the lowest recoil in Class. Smooth shooters for sure. Love the DAO.
@@Zaurasaki Yes, I forgot we all have the exact same uses and interests when it comes to firearms. Why could I possibly want to replace a mediocre trigger in a gun?
@@InvidiousIgnoramus first off why’re typing in a bitchy sarcastic tone and second it was a question .. Also have you even shot the APX ? Do you know how the trigger feels ?? Because I have and the trigger is pretty smooth. By all means make all the unnecessary changes you need to on your carry gun 👍🏼
@@Zaurasaki Yes, I've shot my APX Compact, and no, the trigger isn't that remarkable. It's better than Glock or S&W, and that's about it. No, I'm not going to carry it.
Yet another no nonsense, straight to the ponit, information rich, high quality video from KS! The trigger on this gun reminds me of the horrendous trigger on my XDS Mod 2, which I just put up for sale today. The APX carry is too, little and too late to the game. Trigger is a huge no go and if the Nano was a crappy seller , why repeat that non success? I do enjoy my APX Compact, though.
Thank you very much MIO! I remember the Mod 2. Not a great trigger, lol. I will say that if the trigger was better, the APX would be a consideration for the collection. Cheers!
I recently purchased this and just put 100 rds through it at the range. As compared to my Sig P238 (.380 cal)...Definetly more recoil & muzzle flip than I'm used compared to my .380 Sig, though it might be the norm for polymer 9mm compact pistols. The trigger takes a little getting used to as it feels more like a revolver's trigger than anything else. Not a bad thing and this is probably good for a CCW with no safety, but I kinda wish it was just a tad smoother and lighter, though it may get better as I use it more. I like the blacked out rear sights, but the front sight does not stand out enough for me (again, I'm used to the optic night sights on my Sig...call me spoiled). For now I honestly can't say that I like it or don't like it. I'm going to give it a few more trips to the range and hopefully new sights then see how I feel about it.
It's kinda like a fat little G -26 . I think it's a neat little Ugly Chubby Duckiling 😁 Nice Video and Review KS . Thank You and have a Great Weekend 👍
My God Man, the disassembly is a piece of cake. One of the easiest around. You keep saying you have to find a tool? Anything works, It is just a little turn of a screw, use a shell casing for gosh sake. Also so darn easy to change grips. The Nano and Carry have very few parts. So easy to break the gun down all the way to include trigger components. And I love the Sweet DAO. Yes, it is not a light Striker fired trigger. I have those on other guns, but NOT for a small gun that is my EDC. Do this in another video. Break the gun down against any other gun in class and check out how well built it is. I mean to the point of almost over built. Look at the barrel, you should have compared it to others. The Carry/Nano is very robust in build. These guns can be shoot with thousands of rounds. I have over 10,000 rds through one of them and broke the gun down and it still looks new. One very strong, tough little gun. And SO MILD to shoot. Regardless, I enjoyed the video. Thanks.
It's SOOOO close to being a proper DAO. That was probably the only thing between the Nano and perfection. I'm a wrestler! Let me have another trigger pull if the striker drops out of battery!
I have the full size APX --- I like it a lot- except for the serrations... they are hard to grip when trying to operation the slide when the gun is wet or muddy. Cool little gun, and video . Thanks
I’ve heard that several times about running the slide under adverse conditions. I’ll need to do some testing on it at some point. Thank you and cheers Terry!
I want a papa bear and baby bear combo, and I can't decide on the PERFORMANCE CENTER M&P SHIELD M2.0 HI VIZ + 5" Pro Hi Viz versions or a APX Carry and APX Combat..
Another great review Brother. The APX is next on my hit list to acquire for the collection. Have fondled the Compact at my local shop, but out of the APX line, I'm thinking it's going to be full size or nothing for me, as the Compact felt smaller than my G26 to me in hand. Still awaiting for them to make them available as a range rental though.
Good review. I suppose my criticism of many of these reviews is lack of objectivity for DAO pistols - I don’t care for the consequential approach to assessing the DAO function as just a parameter of reviewing a handgun. Instead, review DAO pistols in a category. There IS a market for DAO, and people purchase and carry them specifically for that form/characteristic. In that sense, the APX carry, I think, is a good option to consider. But what do I know? I have had one for several years now, but yet to shoot it!
Great review as always. I sold my APX compact. It just did not shoot accurately. I will try a beretta sub compact out, but my expectations are low. Still rockin my p365 for carry. Just put a sig factory flat trigger in it and shot it today. I like it even better.will probably get a p365XL after you and a few other RU-vid guys review it.
Be careful with 365. the Slide to the Grip is very narrow. We tested this gun with 5 experienced shooters and many felt the grip is good for small hands but be careful to not ride the slide if you have a size large. Also the take down lever and slide lock is hulky and completely ridiculous, and problematic for some shooters. Also, the gun is on par with many micro 9mm's but many shoot much better. It shoots similar to the Ruger LC9S but with a tad less recoil and muzzle flip. There are better shooting guns out there. The APX Carry has a recoil rating of 6.1 vs 6.9 on the 365. And the APX Carry has much less muzzle flip. In fact the APX is one of the mildest shooting firearm in class out there.
Nice review as always KS! Personally I’m disappointed with the APX Carry. I think Beretta missed a golden opportunity to create a special single stack 9mm. Thank you for making these videos and cheers!
The takedown screw is supposed to return to the assembled normal position when you put it back together and the guide rod definitely should not stick out. These issues are either defects or operator error. Make sure that you are seating the guide rod and spring assembly fully. It did not look right to me before you put the slide back on the pistol. If you are confident that you are doing it correctly then I would definitely contact Beretta.
Con que pistola te sentiste mas comodo al disparar en el retroceso, gatillo y agarre? Entre la APX Carry, Glock 26 Glock 43X y la Sig Sauer P365? Saludos desde Argentina! With which pistol did you feel most comfortable shooting, recoil, trigger and grip? Between the APX Carry, Glock 26 Glock 43X and Sig Sauer P365? Greetings from Argentina!
Thanks! Kudos on rails, 💩 on polymer guide rod and long reset. Overall, doesn't seem horrible but not something I feel compelled to spend my hard earned $ on.
A year late, but your take down pin is not pushed in all the way, probably way it doesn't auto turn back into place when you put the slide on. There is a rubber o-ring on that pin and you have to push the screw side head pretty hard inward to get the o-ring in there. When it is in all the way, the pin will be flush on both sides of the frame. Your's isn't.
I took my brand new LCP there yesterday. It failed to go into battery half of the time, and sometimes bumping the slide didn't work so I would have to extract the round. Then one time it got stuck so bad the extractor came out and I couldn't find it on the floor. I went home and ordered an extractor, plunger and 13 lb recoil spring. The whole reason I got the LCP is because my Kahr is in the shop because the trigger won't reset. I'm going to start carrying a bow and arrow.
Looks like a fine lil ccw! I enjoy thr full size at the range, so am looking forward to this lil booger. Kids.....it is Fathers Day...hint, hint!! Nice review brother, best wishes, Mike.
It's an interesting little pistol. I suspect the idea behind the takedown was to reduce the number of protruding parts so that the exterior would be smoother with fewer snag points. Field striping is usually done at home after a range session. So I wouldn't consider that a deal breaker. As for the trigger, it has no restrike capability, so it is not a true double action. It's just your standard Glock style safe action with no over travel. Would I buy it? No. I have better options already.
You are correct on the slimness of the takedown. Although you are correct on being at home, having the option to break it apart in the field is important to many. Thank you and cheers!
@@KSGunGuy01 True enough. The worst gun I owned required a punch tool for field stripping. That would take it into solid no-go territory. At least the APX has some quality behind it. I don't hate it. I just have other options. I think your review was good and fair.
This one looks the part, but I've heard a few people saying it's so-so. I love my APX Centurion and full-size pistols so I'll just stick with them. You know I am not a fan of single stack pistols, but if I had to get one it might be this one. I'd have to put some night sights on it though. Have a great weekend brother!
@@KSGunGuy01 I am about 90% sure I would go with the M&P Shield 2.0 Performance center model. About 10% I might go with this one, I'd have to feel them in my hand.
KSGunGuy Hey, 10mm what do recommend? I have no shooting experience with it but for some reason you guys are pushing an agenda on the 10mm and I’m falling for it!
Ironically I am working with a 10mm as we speak. More on that soon. It’s a snappy round so I prefer all steel when possible, like a 1911 style platform. The Glock 20 may be an option for you as well, though you’ll feel the round more.
