WARNING! At time 3:42 / 9:38, He says you want to have the C60 SX facing you at the top as he places the plastic shim onto the Stock. THAT IS AN INCORRECT STATEMENT. SX (Left-Hand) and DX (Right-Hand) plastic shims are positioned on the rear of the receiver, so the marking is visible toward the shooter! At that point, the desired shim marking will be facing you! When the metal spacer is placed into the hollow of the Stock, that will also be facing the rear of the shotgun. Both Shim and Spacer face the shooter or the butt end of the gun. If you don't believe me, use a caliper to measure the shim. When looking at the DX side of the shim, the left side of the shim is thicker, causing 'Cast-Off' (rightward cant) for the right-hand shooter. Conversely, when looking at the SX side of the shim, the right side of the shim is thicker, causing the Stock to 'Cast-On' (Leftward cant) for the left-hand shooter!
Good comment. I followed the video then dived into the comments to see why I had cast off for left hander!! Another comment elsewhere says imagine you mounted your gun and your stock were transparent, you would be reading the numbers on the back of the receiver facing you. Only part that could be confusing, and they made it confusing!!
Nice instructions, clear and concise. The whole stock on my a400 extreme plus was randomly loose, I had to take the stock apart and tighten that 13mm bolt holding the stock on. One little correction though, once you take the butt pad off those 5 screws are t10 torx and not t8.
I bought an A-400 which was set for a left hand shooter. Swapping the shim and spacer to right hand set-up was a breeze, but when I mounted the gun it still had the bead off to the left of the rib. But the next day when I mounted the gun the bead was right smack in the centre of the rib. The stock had obviously developed a "memory" biased to the left hand set-up and it took about 15 hours for the stock to reform to the new bias. Just thought I would throw this in in case anyone did it and thought they had done it wrongly. Thanks for the instructional videos Erik.
at the 3:40 mark. The guys says put the plastic black shim facing (SX for lefty, and it's Dx for righty) you on the stock. I believe this to be incorrect. It should be placing the shim on the back of the receiver facing you which would be opposite of what he is doing by placing it on the stock. He is not doing it as the manual states.
Just as an FYI, the T8 Torx screwdriver will need to have a very small diameter shaft to go down into the recoil pad screw holes to get the the Torx screws. I had to go out & buy a set, which is fine since I'll use it for other tasks.
This video is very helpful, but removing the Kick-off unit is not as easy as it appears. I couldn't get a T15 screwdriver (recommended) that was small enough to get through the brass fitting. I called Beretta in NY and Scott suggested trying an allen wrench. A 3/32" one worked perfectly.
from experience I dont believe just one is possible, unless you changed only the plate in the stock.... however have read lots of stuff which says you must make both the same other risk breaking the stock!!! havent be brave enough to test the theory....
according to the manual, page 35 and illustrated on fig. 40, the shims needs to have the same numbers/letters facing the same way, and towards the shooter when the gun is assembled.
Nice video but it did not deliver... I watched this to see how to adjust the length of pull... which the title offered... it was never addressed.... how do you adjust the length of pull on a stock with the kick off?
Mine is T10 Perhaps a $2000 shotgun could come with a toolkit? Shim marking towards the front towards the shooter is a bit vague. Might want to mention D for Dexter or right handed, S for sinister or left handed. The downloadable owners manual has all drawings removed and is useless.

@@erlende2933 he should have made this comment in the video. He says “facing you” but it could have been interpreted as facing you as looking at the stock when installing the shim.
8:48 appears to show the front spacer being reinstalled with "C-55-DX" facing the shooter, but the rear spacer was installed with "C-55-SX" facing the shooter for a left handed drop. Per the manual this is incorrect. @Beretta can you confirm?
I appreciate the video but you completely ignore the most challenging phase of cast/drop adjustment in this category of Beretta SA’s. On every unit from the 391 to the A400 replacing the washer and self locking nut is a hilariously haphazard and unmentioned exercise. Add in the Kick-Off assembly as an obstacle and the placing of the metal shim plus the self-locking nut is a ridiculous time wasting exercise. Beretta or Cole should market a deep well socket perhaps manufactured even from plastic of sufficient length, close tolerance and look-through design to allow first-attempt placement of the nut.
Just bought a 1301 comp. I shoot left handed so tried to replace the DX plate with SX. Can't figure out how to remove the end plate. I have the butt removed and the bolt and can see the Cast plate but can't get the plastic end cap off. Can't find instructions how to remove. Please do a video or provide explanation. PS - the Xtreme has screws whereas I don't see any for the 1301.
Can the Beretta be set up for neutral cast? I know Benelli does not offer the few shims needed for a neutral cast set up. I guess the simple shims are too expensive?
I should have mentioned before. I picked up both a T-8 an a T-15. T-15 is too big. It's not a Philips either as one owner may have discovered on theirs. mine definitely is a Torx.
Very nice your review Erik. Sorry about my English...I´m from Brazil and I want to import from USA a Beretta A400 Extrem, but I have a doubt about shells magazine capacity. First question - The gun works without those “Limitation Plugs”? Second - How many shells in 2 ¾” does A400 hold in magazine? Thanks
I left my half inch spacer out all-together to reduce LOP on a new a400 Lite Syn Gun. Gonna try it like that tomorrow. It doesn't appear to have to have the spacer at all. And the Gun fits my short arms now. Wish I could do that to my Unico KO....Thoughts?
I changed the cast and drop on my extreme plus was getting cheek slap... fits and shoots great now. I was out the door on a hunt right after I did this and found a little rubber o ring about 1/4 inch outside dia. on the floor. I don't know if it was out of my stock or off something else. Is there any o rings in stock of a kickoff?
NOTICE: The Torx heads are NOT T8 on the A400 Extreme as stated in this video. I searched high and low and ended up going to Lowes to buy a T8 because I was trying to be proactive and get all the tools… ended up buying an unnecessary tool.
Just got a new A400. I would like to know this as well. Apparently I have hobbit arms and didn't know it. My other question would be, if you can just use the butt stock end cap, can you / should you use the same screws that it came with or do you need a shorter set of screws to keep them from bottoming out within the housing?
i have one of those beretta a400 xplor actions and my recoil pad is fucked up and i need to order a new one, do you guys know the size of the padt o order like the original that came with the gun, im stuck here in iceland and no beretta supplier located anywhere near?? thank you mr. internet
It would be good to mention that you should lube the screw holes and screwdriver with something. Otherwise you will tear up the rubber around the screw holes. I'm sure most people will say it is common sense, it was not common sense for me. A $50 lesson learned.
Hey Erik. Thanks for the video. I'm new to shotguns. What is the benefit of swapping out the plastic and metal shims currently in my A400 Xplor Action 20Ga? I'm a left hand shooter. How do I know how which shim I should use 55 or 60 mm?
so, the shims are facing in opposite directions? the metal one facing the back and the plastic one facing the barrel? Also, is this identical to the 1301 comp pro?
I did this yesterday just to service the kick off and clean out the stock. My question is my Phillips and T style screws are rusted pretty good. Should I contact Beretta for replacements or Brownells? Thanks
I am trying to adjust my LOP by replacing the 1/2" spacer with the 1" spacer, but the screws in the recoil pad do not fit all the way through the 1" spacer. How do you replace the screws that come in the recoil pad with the longer screws provided without ripping apart your recoil pad?

First, thank you for the video, it helped. But just so I am clear, the cast polymer shim should be placed on the stock with the corresponding drop number visible and on the top? Just like the drop shim? In other words, both of the corresponding numbers/letters would be facing you as you look at both the front and the end of the stock. Is this correct? example: 60DX 60DX Thanks in advance..

@@erlende2933 Confirmed: berettausa.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1035/~/how-to-adjust-the-stock-of-your-beretta-semi-automatic-shotgun From the article: "Center the desired polymer shim flush with the rear of the receiver. The stock bolt tube will go through the center gap. The desired drop and cast indicators (e.g. "C-65-DX") should sit upright, with the numbers and letters facing towards the rear of the buttstock. If the stock were transparent, the shooter should be able to clearly see these indicators facing them." Pasting this so it may help others (and me in the future).

@@bobgeore6107 Hey Bob, I did. I called Beretta, they said the same screws it came with would be just fine and it would not bottom out. So, I removed the spacer, have shot approx 100 rnds through it so far at the range. I am headed to the duck woods tmw to get some rice field and flooded timber mud on it. I have not taken the stock apart to see if there was any issues. As for now, I'm just gonna roll with it based on info/conversation with Beretta.............. and I'm being lazy and don't want to pull it all apart, just want to shoot it at some duckies. 😁
Hi, I'm a left handed shooter and I'm having a problem with my A400 Xtrema Unico. When I bring the gun up to shoulder I'm seeing way to MUCH of the rib, it's very difficult to see st flat down the rib to the bead (so I'm always shooting high). I've heard several other shooters of this gun complain of the same problem even after shimming. Can anyone help out here please?...Thanks.
Instructions on mounting the front (plastic) shim seem contrary to the instructions provided with gun; instruction booklet say's the shims, plastic and metal, must be in the same orientation, it reads that the shim should be placed over the stock bolt so that the correct measurements are visible at the top (ie with the shim against the action) - in the video the guy is shown placing the plastic shim on the stock itself not over the stock bolt which suggests it's the wrong way around in the video. Strongly suggest that owners double check with a Beretta agent and/or refer to the provided detailed instruction book before following the video.
Beretta , the instructions says 1.6- 1.8 kgm of torque. You don't have a recommendation for in-Lb. I have a torque wrench just need to know how much in in-lb.
Bonjour, merci pour votre video mais personne ne parle du demontage du kick off A400 excel sporting .....pourriez vous mettre une video ...merci Luigi italdirect@wanadoo.fr
