Nice video, I use Paramo Cascada which is a waterproof overtrousers that can be worn next the skin all day every day or on top of walking trousers when a bit chiller. Paramo is a bit heavier than the goretex but I have been using them for nearly 20 years now and it has a good few stitches on it that hasn't compromised the waterproofness.

I’ve had mine for at least ten years and they are still going strong and they’ve had some abuse by me and the weather in the Lake District. I did scuff the very bottom of them as they were too long for my short legs but I sorted that by adding some elastics around my ankles and tuck them into those, something I used to do in my Army days with my combat trousers.

I've had two pairs of these. They are good gear, but they don't last all that long either - usually the case with lightweight stuff. I find after about 2-3 years you start getting wet thighs (I use them for both cycling and hiking, but I am out more often in proper rain on a bike), and this slowly continues over time. I do like the way they are small and light enough that you always chuck them in. And the long zips so you can get them on over boots without undue faff when it starts raining are just great. My first pair were sufficiently un-waterproof after ~6 years that I bought a new pair last year. We'll see how long these work for. But yes, despite the limitations these are the least-bad water proof trousers I've had over many years. They are a bit rustly, but not terrible.

I bought a pair of these some years ago. Go Outdoors were doing a special offer and letting them go for half price - £49. Absolute bargain. They are just fantastic...no other word for it. Great review by the way.

I've been tempted to get this same model. Going to give British Army Surplus ones a go - also Paclite - as they're so cheap (£25-35). The ones I've got have full length waterproof "dual" zips which allow ventilation but also access to the pockets as the zip goes all the way to the waistline. They have lots of velcro which I'm not a huge fan of so I may put some pop-studs on the legs to provide a more robust way of closing them once the velcro starts to wear. Probably follow the Montane style measurements.

They look really baggy. I want some form fitting waterproofs because I've been working on my glutes and been told I've got a nice arse, I've never been told that before so want to show it off! Any tips? Apart from stop being vain or that pride comes before a fall :-D

Hi Abbie, I'd been searching for a pair of waterproof over-trousers for some time and I was thinking about these Berghaus trousers. I'm a subscriber to your channel and so after seeing your recommendation of them, I decided to buy a pair, I also like the fact that they had side zips. Unfortunately since buying them, I find that they are 'Useless' and have now let me down on three different trips. I could understand if they leaked from the side zips, but it's from the front! The whole front of my trousers were absoultely soaked through, so too were the inside of the over-trousers! It seemed like the water running off the front of my jacket just seeped straight through the front of my Berghaus trousers. I don't mind spending money on good products, as long as they do what they're meant to do, but at £110 I feel that I have wasted my money. Have you had any issues with them?

Hi Abbey, after watching your video, I purchased a pair of these Berghaus trousers and have to agree with you about the ease of getting them on and off and thought that I'd found the perfect waterproof trousers...BUT today I went out in the rain to try out my new boots. There were a few really good downpours but nothing that the trousers shouldn't be able to handle? Boy was I wrong, these trousers leaked like a sieve!. My hiking trouser were soaking wet. There was a little break in the clouds and when I finally got to some shelter, I removed my Berghaus, in an attempt to dry off my trousers. The outside of the Berghaus dried reasonably quickly but not the inside. Then I thought that maybe it was a build up of sweat, but remembered that there are Gore-Tex and so should wick-away any sweat. A total Failure of the garment on so many levels! Unfortunately, I would not recommend this to anyone. Yes the rain was heavy, that this what these trouser are designed for or so I thought.

I have some of these, excellent waterproof breathable Goretex light trousers. I use the slightly cheaper and heavier Deluge ones (not Goretex) for cycling which are pretty fantastic as well. Also they block the wind very well. A lot outdoor clothing is man made which has a very poor environmental footprint being very detrimental to our planet during manufacture because of nasty chemicals. Probably the most environmentally friendly material is wool although it's not waterproof and becomes heavy when wet. Thanks for making and posting.

Great review. I have same pair of shell pants, bought them on sale on Amazon. I would say size up. I have a 36 inch waist and XL fits me. I wish I would have chosen the long version. I'm 180 cm tall and the medium length (31 inches) is just a little bit too short for me

Forget trousers. Get yourself a cloud kilt and woollen breeches. Zpacks cloud kilt, comes down below the knees. When the sun comes out you just pull it up around your waist like a belt. Sadly woollen breeches are hard to come by. Knee length woollen trousers with a buckle on the side of the knee. Warm, don't sweat under your kilt and paired with long woollen socks the most comfortable and practical legwear out there. I have a waterproof jacket made of the most breathable waterproof fabric you can buy. I still sweat in it. My shoulders and chest and forearms and head are soaking wet in no time. If you are only expecting showers, or you are walking in very sheltered humid conditions (AT for eg) recommend you get a birdypol umbrella. Great for shade. Clip to your pack shoulder straps for hand free use and they really block out the sun too. I mainly use my water proof jacket in camp - not walking

Zippers fail... double zippers or twins zippers will just have a higher fail rate. Also, maybe a pair of men's rain pants can be donned over women's boots but you simply can't get these over a pair of size 11 to 13 men's boots. Most militaries in the world don't put zippers in their rain pants because of the failure rate it that tells you anything.

Those pants look good so definitely not pants pants. You wouldn't want to buy a pair of pants that are pants, you need good over pants to cover your pants which are also covering pants. Three layers of pants and all good pants, not pants pants. Imma just call em trousers.. too confusing otherwise. 😝
