Richard Harrold not... really. The way he plays it, yes I suppose you could see it that way, but the way it's designed to be played a lot of the sound comes from the sound going through the cabaca (gourd) and reflecting off the player's chest, with the differences in sound having to do partially with whether the instrument is held preza or solta (closed or open) I've actually thought about electrifying berimbaus quite a bit, sorry for the random lecture...
