Berkley, a Pure Fishing brand located in Spirit Lake, Iowa, made a big splash in January 2024, introducing three new lures designed to work with forward facing sonar (FFS) units that are increasingly popular on angler boats. The three lures are the KREJ (profiled in this video), with is an innovative approach to a jerk bait with the lip reversed in position, the Finisher and the PowerBait PowerSwitch, a soft bait that does an excellent job mimicking a goby, an important forage fish in many northern waters. With FFS, you not only see target fish, you can see your bait as it enters the water and see how fish interact and respond to the bait. At first, I was skeptical about the KREJ, but after seeing it in action, its versatility became readily apparent. You can fish it over and around cover, over flats with a little bottom structure, almost anywhere. OutdoorsRambler.com believes it's a bait that'll catch anything from big panfish, to bass, to anything that'll eat topwater, from snakehead to snook. The unique design means the lure shimmies and falls like a wounded baitfish struggling, and failing mightily, to get away. Its action seems tailor-made to entice predator fish that like to nail their prey from the bottom up. Check it out.
