Thanks Tony, You are very observant. That Savage packaging was the only solid piece of carboard that I could find. I initially used some tissue paper and it was sticking to the surface of the yak LOL

100% for $39 cant go wrong. They are a little fiddley to install but worth the effort.

Thanks for your comment, Its amazing how many people have come up with their own DIY solution to making the keel more sturdy. Ive heard some amazing stories in the last 24 hours. Good on you for giving it a go. Hopefully products like this will make things a bit easier.

Thanks !! So far its holding up really well. Have done a lot of boat ramp launches on concrete surfaces and no problems at all. I've noticed no different in performance or turning capabilities. So far so good and its been several months.

I wrote a few articles on the website about starting out which might be helpful fishingmad.com.au/article/fishing-kayak-buyers-guide-2021 and fishingmad.com.au/article/kayak-fishing-tips-for-beginners i agree starting in lakes in good weather is a great way to build up your skills and confidence. When i started i fished places like Lake Dayelsford, Lake Jubille,, Pykes Creek, Melton reservoir and really helped to build some confidence and get familiar with the ya. Also if you get the chance go out with other experienced kayakers it really does help to learn a few tricks of them. Im probably thinking having to go up to barwon heads, near the rip or portland. My boat is to small for those areas, so looking at ideas.

It happened on this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jHDr7w1wGb4.html but once the cameras were off. Sliding the kayak on the trailer packing up, it nicked the trailer edge was the gentlest of hits, but left a big dent. Was off the water for a couple of weeks.

Thats a really good question. Honestly not sure as i havent had to worry about that yet.

@@fishingmad How thick are the walls of guard you are using? I imagine by the time it wears through the goop will be a bit looser too, if not you can always patch it or fill it.

If you do scratch the bottom of a kayak it shouldn't be a problem I scratch mine all the time on rocks and that nothing really happens

Hi Ismael it really depends how deep the scratch is. General wear and tear and usage is fine, but the polyurethane material on the hobies is very thin and the keel is most prone to damage so i think this will help that area greatly

What would you recommend instead as the Hobie Trax-2 as this was the most recommended cart from the majority of hobie retailers here. Also there not cheap.

Hobies are have reinforced scuppers for that reason.

@@fishingmad Considering what it is, how much it'd cost to manufacture, freight from china, the "intellectual property" in it (and that's a hard reach)... $10 tops and that's pretty generous. $40 for it is ridiculous.
