@@daviddang82 It's a bit less one sided than in cycling, I mean cycling, every move is for the leader, here it's a bit more even between team members, but yeah they will work together, stay together, take the wind for the "leader(s)" and if one goes in a break away, the others will try to keep the groupe away from this breakaway
In my country Jordan, we think of skating wheels are for kids to play with. In Germany it's a complete new type of sport and make you fit and having fun at same timen. Good job guys
wowowow... amazing mens' race, very tactical in the last 5km, and an outstanding performance from Kamminga in the womens' to win by such a large margin skating solo.. even the pack working together couldn't catch her.
Huh, skating bears quite a few similarities to road cycling. Similar speeds (but shorter distances), the same kinds of team tactics, a sprint finish, and similar clothing.
The speeds are not similar in the slightest, a peloton cycling that marathon would smash 42km/hour you also need to take into account power to speed ratio is not linear
@@Tomas-ml9nv The speeds are more similar that you might think. Bart's record was basically a solo breakaway early in the race and an average speed of over 42km/h. This would be a challenging pace for a solo biker who was not on a velodrome.
M Kufer individual pro TT riders clock speeds, alone, without any draft aspect of over 43 k an hour, a flat course like Berlin they would easily sustain almost 50 k an hour . A peloton of pro riders can easily reach speeds of over 50 k an hour sustained. Maybe if you are at your local bike race, yeah, they probably are similar, a pro cyclist could easily abolish any of these turds
Tim Town Do you feel threatened by these turds? It is quite amazing that these guys go so fast since it is allot of technical skill more than cyclists.
yetijoeyetijoe what's the problem? If you have a flat feet, so you can't skate 42km? I have flat feet too, but I never tried skate over 30km in one day.
@@KandiKlover what kind of bike? i pass bikers all the time like they're standing still. Only people I cant pass is those hardcore dudes wearing speedos that are actually serious about it and in peak shape. THey smoke me.
Colombia should do this. We do this every week at least in medellin. Not so long but we skate with friends close to 1km to 2km,Sometimes go to other towns that it be to 40 Km.
the only proper hill is a manmade one from all the rubble collected after ww2 and turned into a park. even the "rock climbing" on said hill is a concrete wall.
So i have a couple of questions. 1. Do u have to have some sort of professional experience? 2. Is there a age limit? 3. Do u have to use them powerslide skates? 4. Do u have to have your hands behind your back? 5. Do u have to wear that professional gear?
4. Skaters put their hands behind their back for aerodynamics and also to save energy. 5. Wearing a professional gear can help you perform well in a marathon.
by stop being run by what others think and realize that this is amazing!!! id love to just fly through a congested grid locked downtown with a nice set of these in a size 15. would make a commute not only fun but well. hilarious in fact
I just started blading and everyone is looking at me. I think I look cool lol. Fact is I hate running and cycling. Blading gives me the free movement and extensions that I love.
@@billybull7419 I'm not sure how into endurance sports you are, but as a competitive cyclist and former competitive nordic skiier I can say that when you see a performance like this at the elite level, usually something's up. At these speeds, drafting plays a big role and being solo, in the wind for that long is very very difficult for one person to do without being caught by the group behind working together to chase you down. She was skating almost casually at times and hardly faded. You rarely see this type of performance in endurance sport that's not at least a little suspicious. So I hope that JADA was there to do some testing on the winners.
@@billybull7419 In addition to my post below, it was also a bit frustrating to see the moto clearly not aware that he was assisting the breakaway throughout the race. By being in front of the break he's offering the athlete a slight draft and a pace setter. I can assure you the teams who had to do the chasing were pissed.
@@KrebSDani If you are a bit into speed skating it is clear what he meant. Why there are almost not Colombians here despite the fact that they are a dominating force in the sport? My suspect is that most of them are going out only in national team events and not so much at these mass events. Also, they seem to be better at more technical events in the track rather than long races on the road. Not sure.
Yup, less wheels and larger diameter these days! ;-) When I bought my first Rollerblades back in 1995 those cool speed skates had 5 wheels. Well, it happened A LOT in the last 25 years! :-)
@@euri8485 says: "Less weight i think, good for Marathons, most of weight come from whells on skates" == Do they still use 4 wheelers for sprint racing? I looked at a few other videos and 4 wheelers are still alive and well in other categories, specially in free style. I'm pretty sure it still has the advantage(low center of gravity) in hockey over 3 wheelers.
@@allgoo1964 Nop. There are people who like quads and a few specific competitions for them but otherwise in line skates are way faster not much for the weight but rather for the rolling resistance. Also technique is much closer to ice skating and several athletes practice both mass start on ice and in line. I am not sure whether they are explicitly forbidden but you don't see them anywhere near the top.

CheesyHotDogPuff 1. This is speed skating 2. Most people switch to long or short track ice speed skating as there are more opportunities such as the Olympics
On bicycle lanes. At the local track if you have one near you. On ordinary road if it is not forbidden where you live or if you have an empty place where you don't meet law enforcement. Very early in the morning on secondary roads with a trainer who escort you on a bike. In an industrial complex or a parking lot. At a rink used as in the short track competitions in ice skating. Still easier than training for ski jumping or bobsleigh...
Well any road in which there isnt traffic is good for speedskates (except old and crappy ones). The problem comes when you want to train speedskating on track
@@gabriberkhout7511 if you exercise every day, the last thing you want is to have a hard-to-work place. With a bike easier, go out of the house and here are all the directions your place to train.
@@cioxide Yeah every road is going to have cars and is pretty dangerous to be on your feet like that. You gotta have balls to inline skate on the road even with bike lane.

More than half of the top 20 guys are doing speedskating on the ice during winter on Olympic/ world class level, winning world cups and Olympic medals now. But there are slight differences in technique like double push (underpush on outside edge followed by slightly less pronounced regular push to the outside).
No, the t-stop is very Bad for your rolls. Usually they use a technic like ski drivers like a v-stop. In the German Ski driver is it called "Der Schneepflug" :D
