Arguing that "it would encourage emigration", the Soviets wanted to add the phrase "in accordance with the procedure laid down in the laws of that country", with only Poland and Saudi Arabia supporting the Soviet proposal."

The RPGs were for special use. They did not carry them on patrol. They were stored in the armories. Typically they would be used for either an attack from the west, or in cases of advanced escapes from the East. Such as using armored vehicles.

The rpgs would be used for anti-vehicle escapes. The walls of the Berlin Wall after a few successful escapes became L shaped so as a vehicle rammed the wall down the lower part of the L would rise and wedge the drive shaft up and prevent the wheels from getting momentum.

They did however have some weak spots build in in case they want to attack the west. So they can run through the weak spots with tanks.

The East German NVA actually had uniforms very close to n@z1 ones. The helmet being the major difference, but it was also designed in Germany during ww2. This was done to give a false scene of national identity and distance themselves from the red army visually.
