Monaco bermudagrass seed is the latest and greatest! It is supposed to be an updated version of Riviera bermudagrass which was a very great seed variety. Monaco is pretty new so it will be excited to see how if this is the best bermudagrass seed available! I am still trying to figure out what I want to do on the other expansion area but I have the whole winter to think about it as the temperatures are starting to cool down and I don't want to spread more bermuda grass seed at this time.

Loved the collab! Nice job with the seed. My vote for next spring is sprigging tifgrand. I think you'll end up telling a difference between the vegetative hybrid bermuda and the (nicer) seeded common variety

Oh trust me, I have a sedge farm. Yea the sand is virtually gone. A few spots in the shade that it is sticking around but that’s it.

Thanks for the video! Did you guys glyphosate the old grass before dethatching/scalping prior to seeding? Or just dethatch? I’m going to throw down some Monaco this spring over common Bermuda & was going to just glypho, then dethatch in preparation, but the local seed store is telling me I should go a step further & till up as much old grass as possible, which takes forever & tons of trashed grass roots.

Yes I killed as much common as possible but it’s easier said than done. Did a couple rounds of glypho a couple weeks apart

That’s an option too! I’m not sure I want to take them out of my yard and have to wait for it to spread again though. That would be the cheapest option though.

I am looking at doing either monaco or yukon in SE Missouri. Do you have any suggestions either way? I know monaco is fairly new.

Lawn Barber I wish I was further along with my Monaco section to be able to give a strong recommendation. My temperatures just really haven’t started to go up a whole lot yet so I don’t have a full monoco area. This summer I will know better after it fills in.

I’m close to making a final decision on what kind of Bermuda to seed for my backyard. I have considered La Prima, Blackjack and Monocco. What led you to making this final decision for seed? Your insight would be appreciated. Maybe touch on the advantages/disadvantages... have fun in Florida!

Yea it’s tough! All of the companies will say that their variety has great cold and shade tolerance so it’s hard to know what the truth is. On thelawnforum.com a lot of people like Yukon and Riviera. Both of those are discontinued and Monaco is Johnston seed co’s new and improved version of Riviera. So that was my logic. If most people loved Riviera and this was the same but slightly better... that’s what I went with.

iriemeditation I have heard good things but have never used it or even ever seen it. I know I’ve seen pictures on thelawnforum.com from people who have it 👍🏼. Check them out

How's the Monaco Bermuda doing? Tried to find more videos on the updates but couldn't find anything. Just sodded my front yard with Tahoma 31 and looking at Arden 15 or Monaco for my backyard.

@@richardsalas7499 It’s not as nice as sodded varieties. But no seed is. Seeded Bermuda has a broader leaf blade. Thinner than common but not like your Tahoma 31

Seed would be so much easier. Might wait till the fall for the other sod project or pay someone. Looking forward to seeing the Tahoma grow in.

James Pyle Raking and/or top soil would make better seed to soil contact. But it worked fine without.

James Pyle I put the seed down pretty late in the season. It is just now coming out of dormancy so we will get to see how it spreads when the temperatures get up probably late may
