During his career, drummer Bernard Purdie graduated from "first call" studio musician to "must call" musician. In this interview from 2003, he shares anecdotes about the role of a studio musician and reflects on his contribution to iconic jazz and popular music recordings.

These are the types of questions we (as musicians) would ask Purdie during breaks in our sessions going all the way back to 1967. Purdie has always had a unique insight into all facets of the music industry and you did a great job in capturing it here.
