It is my impression that they put up a very weak fight. Their Big Donors - which also finance the Republicans - two cheeks of the same backside - probably asked them to protest a little bit just for the sake of appearances and then call it a day. The donors really like the tax cuts. I guess they start warming towards Trump even though he does not have manners. Oh, well. The only one who would NOT accept a "deal" on the dreamers and give the Republicans everything !! in return - no questions asked - is Senator Sanders. Having dreamer protection then would be sold as huge success by the Democrats. Big deal when 80 % of the country are for it, that is no political sacrifice for the Republicans, they are just smart/determined enough to NOT GIVE the Dems ANYTHING not even no-brainers without demanding ridiculous things in return. Which recently is that the Dems AGREED to the funding of that insane pet project of Trump, the wall. It is an economic nightmare cost-wise, truth is you cannot completely control that border anyway, there is the access to the Rio Grande, the U.S. farmers there would go ballistic when they have to give up the land, etc. etc. The U.S. would need the Canadian solution. Sure SOME Canadians will be in the U.S. without proper documentation (mostly I guess overstaying the visas). But in numbers it is not a big problem. Why ? Because they are doing fine in their country. For those who come to the U.S. there also many that travel the other direction. End the war on drugs, help the Mexican gov. to fight organized crime and the gangs. End the exploitation of NAFTA (the deal was NOT GOOD for Mexico - meaning the country, I am sure the Mexican elites profited from it - like the U.S. elites did). Give them a Marshall Plan and have rules how they deal with visitors from other countries (who might want to use Mexico as a stepstone to get to the U.S.). If the Mexicans can make a living at home they will not migrate in those numbers - they are very family oriented. The wall is a huge waste of money, would result in very high maintainance costs (but at that time Trump would not be in office anymore so who cares). No doubt the Trump business would indirectly profit from building it. (It can be done by giving the empire extra sweet subcontractor deals for OTHER projects, no need for clumsy DIRECT BRIBERY). And of course the drug smugglers and the immigrants can still come in. Many who stay illegally, come here legally with a visa (they just do not leave when they should). These folks usually take a flight. The "Wall" and "Mexico is going to pay for it" was a lie, the Dems ridiculed it - and NOW they would support !! with their votes that that wall is built with U.S. taxpayer money. (Who of Dems has interest in construction or gets money from the industry !!). That wall would be built by many undocumented workers btw. These weaklings cannot even be bothered to put up a fight. They roll over before even being pushed. It is just that the Republicans are so rabid, the Dems already gave them everything they want. The only one making a stink about it is Sen. Sanders. Donors own politicians. Individual people need to be making capped donations to our civil servants so they answer to us and not to large corporate donors. We need civil servants whose campaigns are funded by us. Not politicians funded by donors. Hillary stole the Democratic nomination, and the Republicans helped in that by constantly spewing out her name wherever they go.
