The sad and untimely passing of Bert Kaempfert left a big void in the world of music. He is not easily forgotten, and we are the less without him. This recording befits our memories of him and his musical genius.
Impeccable precision from the incomparable Bert Kaempfert. What would life have been without his amazing talent for arranging beautiful instrumental numbers for us all to enjoy? He left us entirely too soon, but his legacy, like this video you so graciously uploaded for us, fdeckers2003, lives on forever. R.I.P. majestic bandmaster- there will never be another like Bert!
Undoubtedly a conductor who left a formidable and impeccable work! I am currently 31 years old and I know a little of the work of this great maestro, with this incredible orchestra!
@ Socratess2007. I was lucky enough to be there, at age 13, with my Dad and Uncle! It was an amazing experience. Wish I had been at the 1980 performances which by all accounts was even better, with many more members of the orchesta we hear on recordings.
Thanks Frank for sharing this fabulous concert with all of us. Since 1974 (yes, I am that old ;-) I have been thinking : "wish I could have been there at the Royal Albert Hall......" Now YOU made my wish come true ! Five - no, make that TEN stars from me !
"Three O'Clock in the Morning" - Such a creative arrangement. No other band leader could have done it this way. By the way, is there a video of the 1980 BK concert?
Bert K. apparently only took five of his own musicians with him (or was allowed to ...), the rest are BBC Herors and they don't play a bit worse than the German radio musicians. HERE ARE some that James Last had with him. It may well be that the musicians were not only taken from the island for reasons of cost, it is probably like the strong musicians' union in America that has the say, if you want to play here, then you have to kindly engage our musicians. Because even I don't notice the difference. I think the British play the perfect arrangements here - very homogeneously
