Couldn't it be a Psychologist? Why people always talk about therapists? Genuine question Because technically a Psychologist is "superior" (lack of words) since it has the qualification to make an actual diagnosis and it's more scientific-orientated, right? Is it because therapists are cheaper in the USA?
@TokiKata
@TokiKata 2 года назад
@@laetitiasales3527 psychologist and therapist have different jobs in the US. Psychologist diagnos you and prescribe you medicine. Therapist help you thorough and deal with said diagnosis, exactly like she's doing in the video.

@@TokiKata you got that mixed up. A psychiatrist is someone that prescribes medication and can, in some instances, also provide therapeutic services; however, they are closer to a medical doctor in their approach, having literally received a med school degree. A psychologist is someone that works with you, with some exceptions, exclusively through talk therapy. A psychologist is a therapist, however there is different levels of training and different degrees that you can get to become a therapist.

I’ve luckily never gone through an experience like this, and I feel so sorry for those who have, I can only imagine how traumatic it must have been and still is. But my god, I love that an adult show dares to talk about very real and serious topics in a professional, direct, and educational manner. I feel like a lot of people who feel a need to harass others over exploring taboo topics in fictional scenarios to cope with their trauma, really need to see it from this kind of stand point. It’s entirely okay to be uncomfortable that someone uses something like SA to cope with it, but it’s not okay to victim blame and tell the person they aren’t allowed to use it as a healing mechanism, just because it makes you uncomfortable. I know some people who also have gone through this kind of situation don’t like to use it as a coping mechanism, and try to forget it cause it’s triggering. But, people who do use it that way aren’t romanticizing your individual assault. They’re using their assault as a roadmap to healing from their own trauma.

the only time i've ever felt felt the need to criticise - NOT harass, i blocked them after their response - someone over this was when they failed, and then actively refused, to properly tag their exploration of a taboo topic so that people had no choice in the matter. they prioritised 'spoilers' over the possibility of seriously triggering others. i have zero interest in certain topics, and i think most people have things they also don't want anything to do with. be it simple personal discomfort, or because it can be deeply triggering. it's not anyone's responsibility to censor their work and never explore their trauma in public fiction, but it IS their responsibility to make sure it's got a prominent warning label on it, so people know exactly what they're getting into and can easily avoid it if they know it'll affect them negatively. i'm not going to make a cake and not tell anyone there's nuts in it, for example, even though i know some people dislike nuts and some people are allergic to them. but, just because i don't personally want to see something doesn't mean i don't understand the value that depiction can hold for someone else. everyone with trauma processes their trauma differently and i feel like there's a weird push for a 'one size fits all (and it's my size, and everyone who disagrees is either Being Traumatised Wrong or lying about it)' type of thing for dealing with it, when it's entirely individual.
@Bumbledette
@Bumbledette 11 месяцев назад
@@Shiruvihonestly that's exactly how I feel and a big reason as to why I've stopped reading a lot of fan writings and listening to stories I find that people have stopped trigger warning stuff simply because they feel like it will decrease their views

Yup. I had a traumatic first sxual experience and it wasn’t my fault but I always feel like it was. I was around 5 or 6 at the time it happened and I always feel gross and ashamed and now I get aroused by that and I hate myself for it. But I’m super glad my partner has shown me it’s okay. And he still loves me even after I shared my disgusting past and what happened. It felt so good and relieving that I found someone to talk about it with because online really made me feel more ashamed for my arousal of it happening to me in the past and up to the future. It sucks but I have to live with myself and live with that forever so I guess I’ll have to find a way to accept that shameful side I still think is disgusting and vile. I have huge self hate and body dysmorphia and so many other mental issues. But trauma can truly affect you as a person till the end. I still think to myself, I don’t deserve something because of what happened to me as a kid. But I have to remember it wasn’t my fault what happened but I still will carry it around like a bag of bricks when my mind wants to remind me of it everyday. Sighs good luck out there if you are dealing with similar thoughts or issues. I need some too when it comes to my depression and terrible nerves and anxiety.

I remember a friend who had been assaulted who told me about some recurring erotic dreams she was having. Not with the assailant, but with someone in a similar position of authority that he (assailant) had over her. Someone she had a much, much more appropriate relationship with and knew what she was going through. It was clearly distressing her (her feelings were more platonic irl) and she wanted me to give her my two cents on the matter. I ended up telling her "Dreams, especially the sex ones, are abstract and weird, and just want to mess with you sometimes. Especially when you are recovering from something. It's one of the many ways your brain processes trauma. Usually acknowledging that the dream happened, and that it doesnt have to mean anything, is the first step to making them stop." In case you're wondering yeah, I was that weird introspective kid my friends went to talk to. She felt better after hearing that, and I really hope that was good advice. I haven't talked to her in years, but I genuinely hope she's doing okay and that I did right by her while we were friends.

if you can't tell if it was assault, it was probably assault. i will say that. you can't seem to clearly define yourself consenting which means someone was willing to do something to you knowing your heart wasn't 100% in it, yk? at the very least they didn't try to make SURE you wanted it, otherwise it wouldn't be this confusing. therapy can be scary, but it's worth a shot. i can't advocate either for or against it personally. they tend to ask you all the hard questions right away in my experience and from then on its a pretty open dialogue led by you. once you get it out in the open, it's easier. sometimes saying it out loud is really hard though. however you are not required to tell them any more than you feel you can/want to

I remember a kink group I'm apart of on facebook talked about how a lot of people there who were into things like bdsm, age play, or consensual non consensual play had also experienced trauma and playing out those scenes was there way of processing what happened to them as well as being a way for them to take back control of that situation. In doing so, they find something healing in it. Even in non kinky scenarios, people work through things like this a lot. And even children work through emotions and trauma through play. It's completely normal and natural to work through something bad happening to you by replaying or full on acting out the bad scenario in a way you can control. In fact, it would probably be more healing for Bertie to explore her kink rather than hate herself for it.

This was very felt. My first appointment all she did was ask questions and all I could think of was "I begged, and pleaded, and asked time and time again (years really) only to wait three months for this?" And now every month i kinda just feel worse and worse 😂

Well… it is possible you didn’t get a good therapist. There’s a lot of malpractice in psychiatry and psychology, unfortunately, and not all the people who go into the business are the best… people. It’s totally possible to feel bad for a while because you’re just not used to dwelling on what might be hurting you psychologically in therapy, but if your appointments just keep making you feel worse, you also may have gotten a bad therapist. You’re allowed to recognize that. You don’t have to feel better just because it’s therapy.

My therapist telling me their "next client is a real piece of work" would just get me worrying if they think or say things like that about me. Of course therapists can have their opinions (they're human too!...or bird in this case) but maybe don't insult clients to other clients? Other than that I do love her manner as a therapist, she's a good fit for Bertie

God every little joke she does to show her emotions is so annoying because it's neither actually happening to her nor is it helping emotionally engage with her in any way. It's just funny gags in between the heartfelt conversation. I get that it's supposed to represent how she's feeling on the inside but it absolutely does nothing to help

Very interesting that people are so polarized on whether or not shes a good therapist. Me personally i dont take issue with her comment about how brains are weird,because they are,I think she was more trying to get Bertie to stop blaming herself for an arousal she cant control rather than dismissing the issue. Thats just my interpretation though.
