All hype, check the local weather wind speeds under the storms bands. Find a town under the storm band search that towns weather conditions look at the current wind speed. You'll be shocked how all media is hyping the storm. Do your own research. Categories are based on wind speed.
I've been wondering for several years if the man made calendars with leap years has created the illusion that weather patterns and local climates are about a month ahead of what one expects, though in reality they're "on time". Just a curiosity that's flitted around the back of my mind.
Referring to this as "record breaking" is kind of meaningless as even remotely accurate hurricane records only go back about 100 years. On June 10, 1906, there was a Category 4 hurricane; on June 8, 1933, there was a Category 5 hurricane; on June 7, 1934, there was a Category 4 hurricane; on June 25, 1957, there was a Category 4 hurricane; and in June 2005, there was another Category 4 hurricane.
