Love the hand sewn factor. I do a little sewing of gowns as a hobby and the fabric was not being cooperative via machine so I hand stitched almost the entire gown. It really surprised me to know fabric can be better manipulated by handsewing. The fit was nice. I did not know about handstitching and discovered it by accident. Your work is an excellent example to encourage young people and old alike.

The twist technique that you use is very familiar to japanese embroiderers, this is how we make up the varying thicknesses of our threads! I have been studying Japanese Embroidery for some years and this is one of the first techniqes we learn.

You should be justifiably proud of yourself to have made this beautiful garment. The fabric deserves the respect you have shown it. I am a home sewer, but have made garments and employed similar methods, the hand rolling of the edges and corded hand sewn buttonholes. I just love the act of making and the techniques involved. Absolutely beautiful

👍😍Absolutely awesome! Thank you. You do impecable work!! Seeing you do the handmade button holes took me back tp my childhood. My mom was a seamstress and made her own clothes and forced me to do the same. I spent a lot of hours helping her. Practicing handmade button holes was one of those things I had to perfect. The clothing you are wearing is also very nice and beautiful. 💞

This is where craftsmanship and artistry come together. As can be seen, the quality of this make of garment puts it in a class by itself, elevating the wearer to being a connoisseur of quality and skills rather than just as someone wearing an overcoat during colder weather..

Rudolf Popradi I look forward to it.. I would like to ask one question, generally I have noticed that the suit length these days just have a single trouser. An old tailor I used to visit in Asia used to say, it is best to have two trouser so that you can rotate them for a longer life span of your suits. what is your thought on this and also do you offer this?

Just by chance found at a charity thrift shop a bespoke English tweed overcoat in as 1960s style with staps on the sleeve cuffs in order to keep out the wind. As I no longer have much user of clothing that hasd to protect me from the cold no longer in my clubbing days. i doubt I will get much use out of it as even it really does not get much colder than the 50Fs here in Los Angeles. But I can always pull it out for the occassional jaunt and then make certain to take it off once inside. I had always thought that the button hole thread came in different thicknesses since have come across antique spools of thread identified by purpose and whether it was right or left twist in cotton or silk etc. Now I will have to use that technique when i rebuild worn out holes or have to reconstruct the missing hole. Someone out there does not realise it but the Big "E" Levis denim jacket they took as theirs I can identify it by the uncut button hole i had to reconstruct.

Hi Rudolf - I'm wondering if you feel like providing some more information on the technique that you use around the 4:00 mark in this video? It seems that you are creating your own buttonhole gimp by spinning other threads together. It looks like a very interesting technique, particularly your use of the thread spool as a weight. I would really appreciate some more information about this. Thanks so much for sharing!

+Benjamin Selby Hello Benjamin, thank you for comments. I am working on a new video and will do some close ups of this technique. This is technique is very old and was originally used for military uniforms because of its strength. It is nice to know that some people are still interested in this art of tailoring.
@SpaceMonkey23101
@SpaceMonkey23101 8 лет назад
Thanks for getting back to me, Rudolf. Yes, I am teaching myself. Have made multiple shirts, trousers, and 3 coats (not great, but not too bad either). It is difficult to learn, because practitioners are so rare and information is sometimes hard to acquire. I really appreciate all your videos, and await the next one with enthusiasm.
@joshedens6866
@joshedens6866 8 лет назад
+Benjamin Selby Hey Benjamin, have you done your shirts by hand sewing or did you use a machine? I'm trying to learn how to make dress shirts but can't decide if I want to focus on hand sewn or not. I love the idea of creating something without the machine, but the time involved is enormous.
@SpaceMonkey23101
@SpaceMonkey23101 8 лет назад
Hi Josh. I use the machine for most of the work on a shirt, but hand-fell parts of the collar and cuff. I've made shirts with hand-worked buttonholes, but I don't think it's really worth the effort. I always sew the long/major seams by machine. My suggestion to you would be to forget about hand sewing entire garments for now, and just focus on getting familiar with the basics. Also, if you hand-sew something and it doesn't fit or turns out to be disappointing, you've wasted much more time than if you had machined it.
@joshedens6866
@joshedens6866 8 лет назад
+Benjamin Selby +Benjamin Selby Hey Benjamin, thanks for your reply. That's good advice, I just can't get over really wanting to do it all by hand lol. How long does it normally take you to do shirts vs. coats?

Making the double thread for the buttonhole is called a Gimp or four cord right, cause I couldn't find how you made it, the tailor that is teaching me doesn't know anything about making one.
@TheCinemaphileJD
@TheCinemaphileJD 8 лет назад
+Idk there's this video on youtube by the japanese atelier hukutsukuro where she sews a handmade buttonhole perfectly. it's a keyhole buttonhole just like this one. you do not need a gimp or four cord. you simply twist the regular thread 2 x 2 and you can achieve a 4 cord looking gimp. you should watch the video, if you have not.
