2 strokes and she's off :) Also I love that no one said a damn word for, like..30 seconds after she first lit up.. Old engines make me smile: BLOP BLOP BLOP BLOP BANG BLOP BLOP :)
Big thumbs up to mike and you RoadKing for posting. I hadn't seen mikes version yet. Don't think I got a notification of him posting it. I hope you guys have another interesting motor build planned . Take care.
FYI: NEVER open a propane tank all the way. The valves used on a propane, acetylene and other fuel gas cylinders are fully open with approximately two turns. The reason you don't want to turn it all the way is because if something goes wrong, you don't want to be there turning the valve 10 times to get it shut off. Argon, Oxygen, Nitrogen and other high pressure cylinders need to be turned until they stop to seal the valve, but NOT fuel gas. Different designs. ;) Great job on the rebuild! Love seeing something brought back to life!
Mike I would be careful wearing gloves around your engine when it's running, if something on one of those wheels or whatever caught on one of your gloves it could be a disaster. Great engine. Thanks for the video.
Great engines! Great Videos, you guys do a very nice job on these engines! Can't ask for more! I looking at some Hit & Miss engines, I'm hooked got to get one soon! THANKS👍
The propane fitting/regulators used for Turkey fryers move much more propane. If you haven't found something that flows more yet, check out the ones for the fryers.
That would make a good home generator if you got it running right and found out a way to bolt a heavy duty alternator or similar form of belt driven power supply to the base, and connect it with a belt, then wire it up to a large bank of car batteries or some similar form of rechargeable battery (maybe a pre-existing photovoltaic cell if you have solar panels).
Many years ago, I had a single cylinder motor cycle which sounded like that - misfiring etc. I put a new capacitor in the ignition system and it ran as smooth as silk.
+Quarlow 12 It is a 2-stroke throttle-governed engine, not a hit-and-miss. It is quite normal for them to skip. It is backfiring because the ignition is too far retarded.
great job there mike , seen his vid now I get to see this vid , please don't paint it love that patina , and what happened to the bessemer labeled plate under the magneto would be cool to repurpose it for a cover plate somewhere on the engine, any how love the vid
805roadking i love your videos i got a question me and my dad have a hit and miss engine and we just got it running the other day and it make alot squealing noise around the crank area what could be the problem
Are you putting any oil in the drip oilers/making sure the drip oilers are working properly? If not, it could be lack of lubrication, but if the oilers are full and running, could be a bearing.
I like the sound of it Maybe put a tall stack on it ..You would not want to start it up in the middle of the night There's not an engine made that Mike can't fix
Is that smaller cylinder on the right fly wheel an accessory drive pulley? I think they'd use big leather belts on them? Also how do you guys find these engines, haha? It's sounds like it was found in swamp. Was this swamp on a friend's property or just randomly out in the wilderness? Are they local finds, junkyard finds, or do you guys simply just find them online by collectors and sellers? Thanks, I'm just curious. It may be fun to restore an old engine one day.
Yeah that's just a pulley on the side!! We get the engines from all kinds of places, mostly shows and auctions!! That came outta a swamp 400 miles away from us!!☺
thra5herxb12s We have a garden hose running directly into the cooling chambers around the cylinder, if you look closely you can see it draining under the engine down the driveway!!☺
I watched this video quite a few times before I realiised you did say on the video about the hose I was too eager to hear it start. We dont see these engines here in the uk thanks for posting.
Nice engine my friend congratulations but I do not like how you start it with that handle in the flywheel, it is called a wrist breaker if the engine backfires you will have problems!!! I am an engine collector myself with 120 engines in my collection and I know what I am talking about:-))
+James Stephenson Nah that's a throttle governed engine although it does sound alot like one the way it is missing!! He finally got it running right after alotta adjusting!!☺
805 ROADKING I want you to know your videos are much appreciated. I gave up on cable/satellite TV. A hundred bucks a month for 25 Spanish channels, goofy fiction and (scripted) "reality" shows? THIS is entertainment!
It does have a nice note to it but if you are going to take it to shows it is better to have it muffled. I guess some people doesn't like loud engines.
Yeah your right, these guys show their engines and that would be obnoxious. But like you said, it has a nice note and Im sure both of use would love to stand there with in our drive ways listening to it thump away! 😊
