Agreed, that's the deliberate design; marginalizing and omitting the legacies of African Americans. Their contributions encompass every arena, which has always influenced American living.

I don't really wanna turn this into a political discussion, but if you google search "African burned alive for stealing potatoes", you'll learn that it's a dark world. and bad-doing (such as "segregation") isn't chiefly the fault of Whitey. As I've said; it's a very violent world.

Even though I knew her story and knew how she would leave us, as you told her tale, I was still rooting for her to survive, to go on, to go further and accomplish more. Another in your long series of fascinating, enthusiastic, engaging presentations that lift "history" out of the mundane and elevate it to the extraordinary. I ran across your series in a WWII blog and I was immediately hooked. I had planned a life of history from grade school before becoming side tracked by music in college - yet I always remained devoted to its siren song. You made a nearly 2 week hospital stay endurable and inspired a nightly ritual in my quest to watch all of your segments 4-5 at a time. Each night I looked forward to the historical delights that awaited, a rich smorgasbord of quirky and often moving snippets of the most heroic and mundane episodes of the human endeavor and I was never disappointed, until tonight. Oh, it wasn't your features that disappointed tonight, it was the completion of my quest, starting with The Utah Navy and ending with Bessie Coleman. It wasn't the accomplishment of experiencing all of The History Guy, that was a joy. What disappoints is that tomorrow there will be no more Snippets of Forgotten History to explore, led by the deft, articulate, sure hand of THG. Alas. . . Thank you for one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of my life of nearly 70 years. Not only have you informed, you have delighted, cheered, inspired, and often moved me to tears. You inspired me to learn more about my father, who was wounded in the lead up to the Battle of the Bulge near Nancy, France near the ancestral homeland of Alsace, an uncle's experiences aboard a destroyer in the Aleutians, my father-in-law's experience as a radio operator on B-25s in North Africa and Italy doubling as a mess Sgt who used to cook breakfast for Ike. My father watching the construction of the Gateway Arch from his hospital bed in the VA hospital still having shrapnel removed from his body nearly 20 later. Thank you.

@Jim The Raspberry It only "rules" if you let it. I reject it myself. But the MSM incites and perpetuates it every day. People are people, yet they bellow out the color of someone's skin every chance they get, then exclaim for you to be "outraged". They won't give it a rest. It's sad and it's hypocritical. To me, what distinguishes a person is their character. Nothing more, nothing less.

@@JeffCounsil-rp4qv Perhaps I can enlighten you, as Racism in America is very real. A friend of is a veteran & a full blooded Native American and he has been assaulted by four skin heads in a beat-down. However, the last time was just two white men, as one managed to get first swing in while he was walking on a public sidewalk. My experiences, being mostly European but also visibly part Native, is mild in comparison. Things like always being asked to take a second breathalyzer test, as I always passed. However, since Donald Trump ran for POTUS, I am also on the menu. The majority of the Hate has come from the MAGA Hat crowd, but some has come from Sudo Liberals. The most recent was being cursed at, hearing vile sexual comments & being spit on, all while waiting by my car outside a shop, while a member of my church who can't drive bought a few items after I gave her a ride to & from her doctors appointment. The best part, being called a "Thug"...
@JeffCounsil-rp4qv
@JeffCounsil-rp4qv 4 года назад
@@davidhollenshead4892 No, you're just an idiot to believe anything *started* with Trump, or is somehow perpetuated by him. Trump isn't the one who constantly CALLS OUT someone's RACE, that is the MSM stoking the flames and blaming Trump. Not a SINGLE MAGA red hat has EVER been racist toward anyone. NOT ONE. Believe what you want, but I am sick and tired of the finger pointing to the WRONG people. Racism would be all but a thing of the past if it weren't for the goons in the MSM stirring the pot. They don't *want* it to die away because they use it as a political weapon. There are idiots out there that have prejudice, yeah, but they are FRINGE numbskulls. A very interesting and enjoyable story. Thanks for that. It is sad that she never got to see her flying school but even now she is inspiring others to follow her. Our local flying heroine is Amy Johnson who was a contemporary of Bessie's. In 1930 she became the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia, some 11,000 miles. In July 1931, she and co-pilot Jack Humphreys became the first people to fly from London to Moscow in one day, completing the 1,760 miles (2,830 km) journey in approximately 21 hours. From there, they continued across Siberia and on to Tokyo, setting a record time for Britain to Japan. Just like Bessie she also died young. On 5 January 1941, while flying an Airspeed Oxford Johnson went off course in adverse weather conditions. Reportedly out of fuel, she bailed out as her aircraft crashed into the Thames Estuary near Herne Bay. A ship from a convoy in the area did try to rescue her. The crew of the vessel threw ropes out to Johnson but she was unable to reach them and was lost under the ship.
