I was lucky to have a teacher back in the day who stressed proper fingering.Especially since I have short fingers,but learning this way has kept my digits stretched and saved me any pain.Good job as usual Dan.

Very good Exercise, Thank you so much! what I'm interested about is, how to play stuff like that on the E-String, specially from the 9th ore 10th Fret up to the 14th! . I mean in general. There I have the most problems and not really an Idee, how to work with my right hand!
@OnlineBassCourses
@OnlineBassCourses Год назад
Thanks. It’s mainly the same principles but you do have to find a good hand position. Some of that is down to how you’re holding the bass or how it hangs if you’re using a strap and standing up.

@@OnlineBassCourses Thank you Dan! ..."to find a good Hand position"...! Exactly that's my problem! 🤔
@OnlineBassCourses
@OnlineBassCourses Год назад
@@brunoamstad980 try changing how you hold the bass too. Also, consider a lesson with a good teacher who can show you where you’re going wrong.

Thanks for this, so many tips and tricks packed in less than 10min. We all need more speed and dexterity. Can I ask: Is it good to use second and third fingers together (I think I observed in your video) when fretting after next note with first finger, or should you only use second finger alone? I do a bit of both, but wondered… Also, who’s the blond bobble head behind you? 😊
@OnlineBassCourses
@OnlineBassCourses Год назад
Ha! That’s Sting. I rarely use the second and third together. It just looks like I do from the camera angle… I wouldn’t recommend doing it. Third and fourth together is quite common, however.

Good work Mr. Dan. Please can you modify this exercise to cut across all frets in a way that makes all the string crossings part of the exercise? I'll really appreciate that and I'm sure there are subscribers with likewise interest.

Hi Dan - you mentioned that we should be doing daily stretching exercises. My pinkie, ring, and middle all want to follow each other and as a result, I do a ton of shifting. Do you have a recommended exercise routine to work on for separating fingers? I’m always amazed at people like you who have massive gaps.
@mesudeweli-rt7pr
@mesudeweli-rt7pr Год назад
Not Dan but there is this exercise I did to help me with the same problem. U put your fingers one on each fret so index on 1st fret E, middle finger on 2nd fret and so on. And you can start of slowly and pluck each string and go down like that. So once u are done with 4 frets of the string u can continue on doing the same till u reach the 12th and repeat that on other strings
@kevinkwmiller
@kevinkwmiller Год назад
@@mesudeweli-rt7pr thanks. Yeah, I'm definitely not good at doing that without shifting the hand. Something to work on. Thanks for the exercise!
@OnlineBassCourses
@OnlineBassCourses Год назад
It’s normal that those fingers do that. It takes time to develop the stretches between the fingers. You can run scales up and down or use any kind of exercise really. I have free exercises here: onlinebasscourses.com/?s=Bass+exercise&tcb_sf_post_type%5B%5D=post&tcb_sf_post_type%5B%5D=page An exercise book here: geni.us/bassexercises And very useful exercises in my free book you can get by signing up to my newsletter: onlinebasscourses.com/newsletter The bottom line is you need to do some kind of practice focusing on hand position, holding the bass correctly, and those mini stretches between the fingers. Do it every day. Don’t worry that it feels unfamiliar and difficult at first. Just keep going and be consistent. Good luck.
