Jeff - I’ve been hunting for 37 years and I’m still amazed at how many things I learn watching your videos. Clear and concise tips and tactics without all the gobby-goop so many videos are full of. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with the rest of us! Matt - Wisconsin

Matt I love to do so and comments like yours keep me going! I really, really appreciate it!! Most of all I hope they help... And an FYI...man, I can't stand the gobby-goop! Most channels live and unfortunately die by that. Hoping to never become that...means a lot that you appreciate it

Hi Jeff, thank you for your informative videos. We hunt near Bancroft Ontario Canada. Wilderness jungle I call it. No farmland. Just bush. Oak hilltops. Lowland swamps. Very very difficult to hunt. Your videos give me a lot of information that I will apply this year. Good luck!

I think the one thing that always helps me not hunt stands in the morning is the fact that I work on a dairy farm so I milk cows until 630, which usually prevents me from hunting mornings until November until the time change. Which is awesome because November 5th is usually prime time rut time here in NW PA. I'm always hunting evenings but I always save my best stand for that time change and the tips I've picked up from you have helped me succeed at those times! Please keep up the content! Everyone in my family has been at awe because every buck I've shot has been with a bow but I won't tell them about your videos because some secrets are just too good to share!

Oh gheeze it drives me nuts every year! I'm starting to take some corn off Monday, probably 30 acres or so before Archery opener, then the other 45 will come off around the ladder half of October. The Brassica turnip mix will probably be getting hammered after that point! 23 years young but working 24/7 365 sure does make the time to hunt hard!

I hunt about 40 yards inside the woods from a 3 acre field. I leave the house as soon as it starts getting light. I was in my stand for 10 min. 2 doe came out. Then a half hour later a nice 8 point came out. It went by pretty quick chasing those does. And my neighbor shot him about a hour later on my property. His stand is on the other side of the field about 150 yards from me. I wish I could post a picture of it

I walked into my stand last year in December before day break. Heard something coming through the woods and had three doe walk across the path 10 yards in front of me. I stopped dead in my tracks and they looked at me but never blew or took off running. Craziest morning for me so far.

Great video and valuable information Jeff. Opening day in Georgia was yesterday the 12th of course Mid Sept in GA is pop up thunder and lightning storms. Was literally on stand for less than an hour and it came a hurricane lightning storm. Yeah I bailed outta there for safety reasons obviously. Happy for the rain as I planted 3 acres of wheat,rye,oats, and winter peas on Friday. I hate going to a stand and not being able too make a quality hunt effort. I'm hoping the rain washed away as much of my scent as possible not too alert any deer I was there.

Thanks, You've helped explain options and it "always" has wind consideration as a key component. The deer nose knows! I've always entered early and used wind as the key for entry, even if I have to walk a mile or more around an area then sit and let it develop. With the advent of food this year and repositioning or adding stands entry routes have to change a bit. Next year the food will be buffered with switch grass which will help travel. Always options for improvement. Thanks for the road map its been a good learning year and I can't wait for 10/1 here in Michigan.

Thanks for the help Jeff. Me and my son are applying a lot of your tips to our regiment. We are after a 150 class 8pointer we call "Big 8". He is 7.5 years old this year. I have tons of pictures of him all through summer then I will get some pics of him during the rut. However I question for you is he disappears a lot between that time and I'm wondering if he does not switch food sources to White Oaks. I'm wondering if I should move my cameras to these areas that hold White Oaks. Could you please give me your thoughts. Keep up the great work we really appreciate what you do

I have a new stand in an area of woods that the deer come through from Ag to bed. Right behind my stand is a valley so timing the morning as to when to get to the stand is important given the thermals . Your video seems to tell me NOT to get to in prior to daylight as my scent will get into the valley and I know the deer go through there too given my pics on trail cameras.

I overseeded with rye 2 weeks ago in my plots and apparently bought some bad seed as the rye isn’t germinating with adequate moisture.. going to buy some more and try again shortly.. if that doesn’t work, can I spread rye in the early spring to start your no till system?? Thanks for your help!!
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 года назад
Hi Dan...boy that should germinate quickly...I've never seen bad seed? You can do that tho. I would time your rye planting to about 6 week prior to your intended buckwheat planting. You can get a spraying of Glyphosate in at that time too. BUT, don't give up on your rye right now... incredibly hardy seed!

Are there habitat solutions that you implement be considered in closed managed forest land programs in Wisconsin or forest programs in IL? I ask because of the tax incentive. However, the requirements the state/forester give aren’t What you recommend. Example: for CRP you have to burn/mow every so often. You don’t give those recommendations for habitat growth
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 года назад
There are recommendations...but very limited. My first recommendation is to never enroll or to buy land where you don't need to. They often severely limit your land's potential whether in the field or in the woods. I have even seen a loss in value for resale of lands in restrictive programs. That being said ..some plan administrators are incredibly flexible because they understand that being flexible means more lands enrolled. Or they just understand the value of wildlife. I have many landowners that pull their lands out if they can afford to do so as the plans always diminish wildlife and hunting value. I draw up plans all of the time for folks within those plans...there potential is just more limited. Like I said, some plan administrators are more flexible than others...which is good for themselves and the landowner.
@jrchismorie
@jrchismorie 3 года назад
Thanks very much! I appreciate this. Yes, the value for lower taxes are there. That’s why I’m curious
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 года назад
I would buy a smaller parcel so you never have to enroll...tough to do if you already own the land. Or buy land in a state like MN where the taxes for land are just lower with no programs offered. It never is better to own more land unless you can appropriately fit that land with improvements that match the size of the land. A smaller, more compact land with no limitations often equals a much higher level of whitetail and wildlife potential when the amount of improvements match the size of the land. I hope that helps! I see a lot of fragmented, 200-300 acre parcels that do not have enough food or cover to create a solid, 200-300 acre parcel. For example if someone owns 200 acres but can only afford 80 acres if improvements...or are forced to participate in government programs that limit wildlife potential, then they are much, much better off buying 80 acres and doing it right ..

@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 года назад
Most of the time in the pre rut. But we have some good movement on the new land during the morning and good, low impact access...so earlier in MN but sparingly. In WI likely not until the pre rut.
@underdogoutdoors
@underdogoutdoors 3 года назад
Wait, if you saddle hunt, 1 oz. of gear, with aiders, on public land- does access even matter anymore?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 3 года назад
Access always, always matters. The only thing I can suggest is that if it takes a while to get into a stand, it may force a position to get in much earlier than normal. For example our really good post daybreak stands we arrive at the stand and immediately climb. We are up and in within a minute. We couldn't push that to 5 or 10 minutes without compromising the stand. Bottom line tho, it really depends on where the deer are.

Hi Jeff. So I have a couple of questions. So this is my first year using trail cameras and one trail camera that's about 30 yards from my stand has caught 2 huge 8 pt bucks. Now I live in Illinois so our bow season opens October 1st. The pictures were from Monday of last week. He was a morning buck, around a little after 7. What are the chances that if I hunt that stand close to that camera, that the buck will still be in the area? And when do you think he could cruise through? I don't know too much about the early season (I've been hunting for 6 years, I'm only 15) but do you think it would help using doe pee? I really only use estrous in rut and late season, but I have casual doe pee. If you can offer some advice I'd appreciate it. Love the vids man, take care! - Kaiden
