I am a knot/line/rope tying guy. I thumb through Ashley's book often. I am very enamored with this craft. This video is absolutely wonderful! There is no goofy-ass talk, there is no Jive-ass loud "music", there is no crappy lighting or focusing or trying to do it with one hand while holding a darn phone to make the shots. There is only fantastic instructive video and very nice music! All this is very unusual in RU-vid presentations. THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION!!
from this fly angler of 33 yrs. , sincere thanks !!! ....Absolutely the best knot video, of the Many I've watched . As an educator : the Pace is so important....& you nailed it !! Music provides focus. So Well done. Most grateful , as I continue learning at 78. Semper fidelis USMC 1/7 '68 RVN
I've had great success joining 25lb fluoro to 30lb braid with a surgeon's knot using only 3 twists. It will land chrome chinooks well in excess of 30lbs. No problems passing through the guides.
Two days ago, with rain pelting down and the 17' boat rocking in the waves, I found a school of jumbo perch. The wind was quickly drifting me out of position and as luck would have it, I snagged my drop shot and broke off the fluorocarbon leader on my braid necessitating a quick retie and rerig of the double dropper loop. The surgeon's knot looks like something I may try next time because it actually looks like I could maybe tie that with cold, wet, dirty fingers in a rocking boat with the pressure on to get it done quickly and get back in the water. As elegant as these others seem, the practicality of doing them under the real pressures of a fishing boat seem at best, hopeful. In such situations, I seem to fall back on the old standard back to back uni knot for braid to mono. This has literally never failed however the surgeon's does look a bit easier. Thank You for doing this video.
Never ever thought I would be saying something like Beautiful Knot Tying. But that some beautiful knot Tying. Thank you. I just love how people master the little thing. What really makes the world go round. Never knew Knot Tying could be so philosophical.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
Very unique way of tying an FG Knot! I like the finishing (as opposed to half hitches), which reminds me of finishing the wrapping of a peep sight to a compound bow string.
This is by far the best knot-tying video I`ve ever seen to connect just for knots. Now, I`d like to see one with this much fineness tying knots to the hooks.
I'm so bad at knots. I appreciate the high quality. I watched other videos and couldn't see if they were passing line in front or behind but it's clear here.
i BELIEVE THIS IS AN EXCELLENT VIDEO. I'VE SEEN PLENTY OF OTHERS BUT THIS ONCE PUTS IT IN CONTEXT AND HOW TO ACTUALLY DO IT SO I CAN UNDERSTAND. Well done and thanks so much for taking the time and posting. I have it locked into my Favorites, and I'm now a subscriber.
Good to see someone teaching knots and lubricating it. Must do with mono line as it heats up while tightening and can burn and weaken line. No good having a strong knot with burnt weak line
Very nicely done instructional knot video. The proof is really in knot strength so actual break test would be the “proof” which knot has the highest break point. The properly tied FG will most likely win and it is the smoothest to cast.
I've never seen an FG knot tied that way! Great finishing twist, too. Probably smoother and stronger than just piling on overhand knots like a lot of people like to do.
Ive been tying the FG knot with little success and have not seen this method, it’s a fun knot to tie but it gets too much air time, I’m gonna switch knots. Great tutorial, on another note: you’ve got city boy hands Mr. Blueparay, been countin’ money all your life.
@@monstertrucktennis alternate over hand hitches ( half hitches) which makes a series of clove hitches. Done over both braid and mono then braid only for 6 complete clove hitches filled by a Rizzuto . Now that’s a properly tied FG. Many people make the mistake of not alternating left then right half hitches ..
@@johnjoubert7566 interesting combination. I've watched dozens of "pros" from around the world and I can think of only one that combined both overhand knots and Rizzuto. I'll give it a try.👍
Easiest way I’ve seen an FG knot done! I’ve tried the FG and had it fail so many times I stopped trying, but I’m gonna use this vid to master it. I also use the surgeons knot for mono but never thought to use it for mono to braid, so thanks for that to. This vid will be saved
Keep practicing it. The FG is worth the extra work. Especially when fighting huge bluefin. I've never seen a proper tied FG fail, seen the line and the braid break. Never the knot.
Really appreciate your skill I've been out on Trinity River trying to tie a tapered leader together and forgot some of my knots my brother-in-law was laughing here let me do it I was happy to oblige I need to stay in practice thanks for the video
The Albright knot is overall the best knot IMO... its strong, quick to tie on the move and small. It has low impact on the top rod guides just like the FG knot which is also a plus.
@James Burnside I agree. The uni knot is a good knot. Its better suited for when you need to tie directly to terminal tackle. Its my go to knot whenever I rig up to fish live bait.
Awesome knot tying skills. I just find myself reaching for my bottle of Jacks after trying that FG knot but its way easier than how some tie their FG . Keep posting bro and thanks for sharing
Excellent tutorial, well filmed, good music, you left out the best knot i have tested, the PR knot, tied with a bobbin. 30 winds down, 60 back a dozen alternating half hitches finished with a rizzuto The only genuine 100% knot imho
Great video, love that you do this on a plain black background - makes it way easier to see and follow along. It would be nice if you could also include some general information regarding the knots themselves. In what situation would one be superior to another?
Thats what i thought also. Its way different from a conventional as seen on several videos.. But imo, really more powerful this one here.. Good one. Will surely try it
A-MAY-ZIIIIING VIDEO!!! I was sure your hypnotic instruction in knot tying just planted the information in my brain! However when I grabbed my line after only watching once, I realized all that remained was a beautiful memory and I was going to have to use some good old fashioned practice. 😂 P.S. I’d bet $1 worth of pocket lint that your close-up magic skills are right up there with your knot tying skills. 🤔
Sou um velho escoteiro do mar.... O nó mais difícil pra mim ainda é o "nó de emenda de malha"... Quem conserta rede de pesca sabe o que é... Emendar um toquinho de linha na agulha de pesca não é fácil... Só tem esse nó.
Great video, great knots, especially the surgeons knot, so simple why didn't I ever think of that. Good to see a vid showing just what it says...knots, and someone's mug telling us about knotd
I use a 4 turn version of this all the time with super light braids, but with one addition. I wrap the braid around the leader around 15-20 times prior to tying the knot, it cushions it really well
A straightforward & informative knot video, I like the idea of the Moonlight So-knota Surgeons knot for braid to mono. Ludvig would be proud. Also, I really liked the braid shears. Have thee a link to where they're available?
Salt strong has a bunch of these videos showing them testing. They moved me to the palomar knot on fluoro after a frustrating evening of stripers breaking knots at the hook.
I tried to tie it and my braided side looks amazing, but my mono loops look like shit.. idk why, but the damn knot is soooo long once completed it has a hard time getting out of the last guide on the rod, I tried it on my alabama/punch rod, but maybe it's only good for a big swimbait rod?
Beautiful tutorial vid but what I'll like to know is.... Where did you get those clippers? What's the brand? They cut braid like a hot knife through butter!👌🏽

there are easier ways(in my opinion) they all works, but I'd use only an FG if your mono and braid re about the same diameter, if the braid is 2/3 or less of your mono's diameter, the PR creates much more strengh and up to 30lb braid a sinker around 2 ounce/50-60 gramm work perfect and you don't need a bobbin, and even with 100lb, a outrigger for european catfish with the amount of weight you need in the snap works to, but the bobbin makes it much easier, the best way to tie the thinn braid to the sinker is to use an sli-clinch knot, so you'll always hafe enourg line to make your finish after letting the clinch slip. the problem with the fg is that you don't always hafe the same knot strengh (sometimes 90%, sometimes only 70%) and it weakens the braid, how stronger your braid is compared to it's diameter how more strengh you loose cause under full pressure the braid in a FG cuts thru itself, on a long and tight enough PR you'll never have this problem, only if you're tie it to tight with thinn mono, compared to the braid, it can weaken the mono, so if the braid is much stronger than the mono you better use the FG cause it doesn't matter if you're weaken the braid cause you'll have enough breaking strengh left and you won't weaken the mono. Splicing is also great and you can just splice a piece of hollow braid to your mainline and than splice it to your mono, but I would only do it with 100lb+ braid cause that's the range where it become a problem to tie an really tight PR, but it takes much longer, so the PR is a good choice for eyerything up to 100lb.

Fish Aholic Ive seen those at cabelas and theyre made by Rapala. There might be some other brands but theyre all the same design probably made in the same factory just branded differently
FG knot all day any day. You don't need to complicate it and pull one line tight like most people just tie it loose and pull tight at the end. Great knot. Quick enough to tie once you get use to it. Doesn't fail.
Learn to tie the FG knot by hand and all other leader knots become obsolete. Very easy to tie with some practice. I can tie a 20 wrap FG in under a minute.
I like the uni to uni knot however I do not think you did that one but they are similar. I like the sturgeon as well easy one to tie. Never tried the FG Knot because I am concern how it runs against the guides if it were to go there. All in all great teaching video and the video quality does not need a thousand words to explain how it is done. Good Job.
Lmao... This guy complicated the hell out of it. Most people do... Takes a min or less to tie... No need to hold one line tight and definitely no need to spend half the time undoing all the wraps you just did like this guy lmao
