A far cry from the days of my dad yelling at everyone and turning what should have been a nice day on the water to just another day of hurt feelings. Very nice job!
My wife and I just bought a 16" boat, the three times we have been out have been a bit of a struggle. I've watched your video three times. I feel like I've been enlightened. Thanks!
Me too,not for 20 years but when your alone this is a great easy way to load and unload your boat,to me this is a lot easier and faster than driving it on.
The thumbs down is because some retard is going to to unhook his boat from the trailer, back down a steeper ramp and his boat is going to fall on the concrete. The boat needs to be secured to the trailer until the trailer is in launch position.
Man! I've been losing sleep fretting retrieving my soon to be first boat since my dad's boat 40 years ago, a 19' CC. You have just greatly eased my fears! Here's wishing you many good fishing trips!
why thank you very much! All it takes is practice and not being scared or in a hurry. I have some other launching videos on my channel and some regular videos also show me launching. my last video shows a in-car footage as well. thank you very much for watching :)
Like I posted, I too had "first boat launch fears" and tried several times the POWER METHOD ... it was a waste of time and frustration till I remembered this rope method. It is the quickest method and it only needs ONE PERSON TO LAUNCH OR MOUNT one person using the power method takes longer because you still have to go in and out of the boat that is not needed using a rope. I just also noticed another time saver... The boat was tied to the trailer before he ever the water and just let it flat back into the ramp. This is also a time saver too!
Same exact method I use, but I drop the tail gate and place the 50' rope on there. I attach the leash to the bow stop and the large loops flow nicely as the rig floats away. Great work Tony! Tight lines!
thanks Im just another nervous boat owner about to do the nervous launch, Ive done a couple and have had problems getting the boat straight on the trailer , Ive just made a couple of guides for the back so it might help, I also agree that you dont need to gun it up on the trailer if you get the depth right I do the same thing with the rope as you so I at least have some things right just need more confidence
very good Capt. The key to taking out is knowing how far your trailer should go in the water. To far and the boat will not center easy not far enough and you struggle to winch up. I like that he does not power load.
Tony, thanks for doing the video. More people need to watch these. The public ramp near my house has a beach and many times you have to dodge kids running across the ramps while you're backing down or pulling out. Of course we have the "wait until they get on the ramp to load everything in the boat" types too.
Hey thanks for this. New boat owner here and it just seems intuitive to me to guide it up onto the trailer as opposed to gunning it up there as I see a lot of people do. Thank you!
Melissa Oltman you are welcome Melissa I'm glad that my video can help you I do have a few other boat loading videos on my channel you can also take a look at those and they may help as well :)
Some docks in TX and other parts of the country have courtesy ramps off to the side that you tie to as you retrieve your trailer and back it in. No other choice but to drive the boat up onto the trailer (since boat isn’t tied to the retrieval dock) but as the man said, he drives his up on the trailer as well. Good video.
i could've tied off the side here but it was dead and no one was waiting. so for video sake i left it where it was. as i remember this day was a crappy fishing day lol. thank you for watching :)
This man has fished by himself hundreds, if not thousands of times. Don't be intimidated by watching guys like this load their boat on a calm day without issue. This is a skill that is developed over many seasons of weekend boating. Which by the way, is exactly what most boat owners do. You want to learn how to load a boat faster, find a huge empty parking lot and practice backing up your trailer, this is what will take ALOT of time off launching AND retrieving your vessel.
Very true.... Also practice makes perfect. If a person is out there every weekend or twice a week or whatever they will learn what to do and what not to do very quickly :-)
When loading, that's a good idea to have a long rope and have the boat back away from the trailer. Makes it easier to guide the boat on to the trailer. As a new boater, using a 15 foot rope, the boat was too close to the trailer so it was harder to guide the boat on to the trailer. I'll buy a 25' rope for my next loading. Gave you a thumbs up.
one thing that he did, that if it's a boat ramp where others are waiting on you to leave is ; pull your loaded boat away from ramp after you load it . then in parking area pull your drain plugs and fasting down your boat tail hooks to trailer. never hold others up at boat launches to do these things.
Nice job Tony! You make it look so easy. What are you using to tie off your boat to your trailer and how long? Also, is it possible to retrieve a much heavier and a little bit larger boat the same way you did in this video?
I've been working on this 21ft skeeter I bought 95 225 mercury. fish and ski haven't even got to use it yet now I have to go in hospital be summer before I get to use it can't wait to see how it runs bass pro done some of my work has the racing motor on it some guys just don't take care of their boat it really looks good now my boy has a fit over it thanks for info. hlong mo
thank you! you know the more you do it the better you'll get. just get your routine down and you'll be fine. also take a look at my other launch/load videos :)
you know it seems like when I get on the launch everybody is such a hurry for me to get gone but when they get on they set and visit I'm with you I would rather crank it up like the way your doing it just and old man been fishing for years good luck hlong mo
Should have parked on the other side of the dock, where you wouldn't have been blocking the ramp. I know, it looks like no one was around, but, still, it sets a very bad example. There are already way too many folks who think it's perfectly acceptable to block the ramp for however long it takes them to get their shit together. Other than that, GREAT job of launching and retrieving solo!
Rick Cargo no reason. Actually I load my boat on the trailer a few different ways which includes just driving it on. I kind of like the Rope drag sometimes because my feet are already on the ground LOL
Great job. What did you tie off to on the launch? The hitch, bumper, or something in your bed? And how long was your line? Lots of questions, but I’m new. Thanks
This is exactly how it should be done. I would add one thing that wasnt necessary at this ramp. If its busy, after launching, move your boat to the other side of the ramp so other ppl can launch or trailer while you are parking your truck and trailer.
Guys I apologize for keeping this to myself but when I learn how to post my video on utube on loading my 16 Tracker ProV you will be amazed on how I load in 5 minutes and perfectly centered every single time no matter wind or rough water. Just winch the bow in and pull the boat out of the water. I used to yell at people trying to help me load. But I figured it out on how to load by yourself, quickly and perfectly no matter what the weather or what kind of dock. I will try to get this vid out there. And best of all inexpensive addition to your trailer. You will love it and others that go with you. You won't need their help with loading your boat
Yes it could !! Generally I normally leave the bowline attached. Around here there's at least three lakes with very flat ramps. Just have to use some discretion
So you unhooked the bow line long before you went down the ramp? Great way to launch the boat into the parking lot. Now let's see ya try that with some wind and waves
Simple ... learned this watching a guy recover his 15 foot boat from the intercostal river with a strong current. I struggled recovering the power method then realized the “pull the rope” method was hands down the easiest and first try “perfect” seating to the trailer. I too was so frustrated with the power method that I pissed off my wife too and wasted 15 to 20 minutes due to the current preventing me from aligning the boar over the rollers. Launch and recovery with the ROPE METHOD is the way to go and it is only a ONE PERSON action so boating alone is easy for everyone ... 5 STARS VIDEO!
May work on this ramp but I would strongly advice boaters to keep hooked up until the boat is in the water. I've seen so many boaters loose their boat on the ramp doing this especially if your trailer has rollers on it.
Did you choose to disconnect the winch before the approach due to the ramp not being too steep? Your other video recommended to leave it attached until you reached the water. Soo many newbies out there with their boats sliding off the trailer before reaching the water.
Man, I love that shirt , I definitely need to get one of those, oh and buy the way great job unloading and loading your boat! Someday I hope to be able to do it that way. I'm not that bad but I'm not THAT good. Keep on fishing! With love and God bless.
The retreiveal was done correctly. People are having a hard time with the idea of using the crank instead of the boats motor, but the best way is using the crank. The launch was an exact demonstration of the wrong way to launch. Your boat should be secured to the trailer at all times.
