i always say you either get out of your car and help me or shut the f**k up when launching solo with impatient people behind me. normally shuts them up. if you see someone looking clueless or having a hard time, ask if they need help. It will make it quicker for you too.

Ahh... revisiting this old video. Offering help at a boat ramp more often than not gets a big "fuck off" response. People don't like being made to look incompetent. The best thing to do is take responsibility for your own education and visit your local ramp during less busy times and learn how to do things correctly instead of trying to blame everyone else for your lack of skills. If you can't do things efficiently, than why are you going on the busiest times knowing full well you'll hold everyone up? If you still ignore this advice, if you know you are incompetent and need assistance, why not take responsibility yourself to find somebody to help before you get to the ramp and make an ass of yourself and than start seeking help after the fact?

I just wanted to thank you for your great instruction! I took my first boat out today and launched it and retrieved it using the technique you showed. It worked great and made that part of my day super easy. I even had a guy at the launch ramp laughing at me and then he saw how well it worked and he didn’t laugh anymore. I can’t thank you enough! Take care Sir!

Glad it helped !! what kind of boat do you have? you can also try the drive on the trailer method. i also use the trolling motor method but you have to pull it up before it hits the trailer lol (can be risky)

When backing up a trailer, grab the steering wheel by the bottom. Moving the bottom right, will cause the trailer to go right.

@blackknife1

I go out alone most of the time, but I usually just back in until it floats, then take the bow strap off, put on a pull line like yours, and push the boat off the trailer. I use the pull line to beach it, or bring it to the dock depending where I'm fishing. When I load up, I beach it to the side, back my trailer in, push the boat out, and use the pull line to guide it on to my trailer, then winch it on. I never power load. Nice set up btw. I'd like to have a Power Pole or Talon, they're just so damn expensive.
@ericpaulsen8485
@ericpaulsen8485 5 лет назад
The trailer and rollers on it guide you on. Why hand crank it all the way? Just line the boat up and let it drift in, then the trailer will do the work for you.

Amateur boater here and your instruction videos are PRICELESS! I will always refer to them until I get comfortable doing it alone. Matter of fact, I will save this one and the docking video to my file. I would like to email you with questions I may have because Spring 2015 will be my first time doing this. I took a Coast Guard sponsored class and received a SCDNR certification but it was some things you covered which a classroom cannot properly teach.

Good job, video. I launch a 24 ft. Center Console, often by myself. My trailer has tall guide poles in rear, which help to center boat when recovering, especially in wind. I like your idea of tying launch rope to post in front of trailer, ensuring your bow is remains centered when boat floats off. I think I could use your technique, and "skip" rope over the rear guide poles. Thanks for posting this. Appreciate your interest in helping others. You set a great example to boating/fishing people.

In Minnesota, we need to keep the plugs out by law while on the road. I use a small chain hooked to the safety chain to hold the plugs; that way if I ever unclip the safety with the plugs on it; I never launch an unplugged boat.

My Lund manual says to block the back tires of the truck. The blocks can be connected to the trailer with a rope. The blocks follow the truck when you drive away. That would be for steep and slick launches.

After all these years, this is still the best how to solo launch on RU-vid. Came back for a refresher since I've started solo fishing again. One addition I've been doing is backing up in neutral, letting gravity guide your truck and boat to the water. That way, if the foot slips off the break, you don't accidently slam on the gas while reversing. I've found its also easier managing the trailer direction with the slower approach to the water.
@TopwaterTony

Hey, thanks for the awesome tip. Saved the day from a disaster. Launched my brand new boat the first time ever and I was with moms who can't swim and needed to hold the ropes. So I thought. First attempt, mom lets go of stern rope out of fear of the water no biggie. 2nd attempt, mom is in the water knee deep with shoes on and not letting out any slack. (mom is 73). Then I remembered your tip, "tie the rope to the trailer". Thank God no one was at the ramp till I had the boat setup right on the dock like I've done it a million times. Nice of you to post, thanks--just a comment or two. Often places that wire the trailer do not use the correct wire connectors, don't know if that is way your starboard trailer light is out. And there are variances that work. On mine, I learned I don't need to back down too far--I can just walk back there, walk across the trailer tongue, unhitch and climb aboard--back the boat off and put it at the temp dock. Walk back to the truck and park it--return to temp dock for boat.

i dont think beaching a boat is the way to go. id rather get on the boat unlock the boat and motor it out. assuming its floating. I do like the safety rope, but not really necessary. thanks,

A keel guard is great for beaching the boat

If you have sealed trailer lights or LED trailer lights you can leave them plugged in. Back in the day when they did not have sealed boat trailer lights, the hot bulb would come into contact with the water and bust, not to mention corrosion over time. I have switched to LED lights on my boat trailer, well worth the money spent.

I've been boating for years but I hear conflicting opinions on weather you disconnect the trailer lights or not. I leave them plugged and nothing has ever happened but maybe I've just been lucky?

Good video, and you have a nice set-up. Being polite and thoughtful at the ramp is important, as many schmucks damage ramps and rush boaters, Have a good/safe year of boating/fishing, pal!

I'm not an expert by any means, but another recommendation is to start the boat in the water before you take it off the trailer so you know the thing runs

You must be committed to fishing, if you're going to go out when there's snow on the ground! :D Hey, just stopped by to say, "thanks for the tips."

yes but keep your winch strap connected
@zachpeters8188
@zachpeters8188 8 лет назад
What I do is loosen the winch to where it's got maybe 4-5 inches of slack, back the boat in until it floats, crank motor, and put it in forward so it will give the winch slack and I take the winch hook off, and away I go. I kknow it sounds complicated, but it's easier done than trying to explain it.
