If you like heavily mentholated aftershaves, try Stirling aftershave. You can get all of their scents, including unscented, in regular menthol, and extra menthol. I haven't tried the extra menthol, but their regular menthol is just a tad more mentholated than Snake Bite. It gives me a pretty good "sting" for a minute or so, but then stays very cool for quite a while. Great stuff!
I certainly have and I like it. I enjoy highly mentholated aftershave especially in the summer (Osage Rub, Stirling’s Glacial Formulation, Cat O’Nine Tails, Chiseled Face etc). I also buy menthol crystals off Amazon and drop a few in my alcohol based drug store aftershaves. I have a bottle of Skin Bracer that I loaded up that’s got way more bite than Snake Bite😂
Those are some good recommendations, Greg. I’ve never tried any products from Fine, but am going to try some now. My preferred aftershave is actually a 2-step process. I start with Proraso green aftershave liquid. Once it dries, I follow it up with Cremo’s cooling post-shave balm. The combination works perfectly for my sensitive skin that gets very irritated after shaving. The Cremo balm can also be found easily at drug stores and grocery stores, and is less than $8.
Great ranking video. Others that I have that are not on your list are: RazoRock Blue Barbershop (my favorite barbershop), Crowne and Crane balms, Barrister and Mann splashes, and for a premium aftershave I have Saponificio Veresino Opuntia splash (which is actually more like a gel-splash).
Sounds like you have some splendid options! I am going to be replacing some of these over this next year so will certainly add these to the list. Thanks for watching. (oh, I just ordered a Saponificio EDT that I am very excited about as well)
Great selection of AS Greg. I like a lot of lower priced ASs and don't have many Artisan made ones, for example Lucky Tiger Bay Run and Aspen, Imperial Leather, Blue Stratos, Old Spice, 4711 and the Clubman Pinaud range of AS. Hard to pick a favourite, maybe Imperial Leather as I emptied one bottle this year. The Clubman Osage Rub is my Snake Bite type AS. Take care and have a great Xmas.
Another great vid, perfectly edited. A joy. I am, however somewhat intrigued by the fact that it seems that you reckon "mentholated" as unscented. My favorite drug store mentholated splash is the Floïd Mentolado Vigoroso Masaje Genuino, i.e. Floïd Vigorously Mentholated Genuine Massage, that is so heavily scented with menthol that I cannot apply any EDT or EDP afterwards.
Have yet to try Snake Bite. I do however love Fine American Blend! I use lots of drug store splashes- AV Ice Blue, Musk and Original Sport (very green mostly sold in Canada), Old Spice, Brut and such. I nearly always buy sets when purchasing from artisans, PAA, Stirling, Noble Otter etc. Recently started buying artisan splashes to go with unscented soaps along with the way too many other splashes I have and I quite enjoy that. I use vintage soaps such as Williams, Colgate, Yardley and it's nice to just grab whatever aftershave I'm wanting to use and not worry with matching. Nice video and good job narrowing down your lists!! Thanks for sharing! Ramble, ramble...
I have been looking for musk (can't find it near me...may have to order on the net (with Sandra Bullock)) I try to buy sets as well. Do you have vintage (as in old) Williams? I have some but it smells a bit off so haven't tried it haha (I am sensitive as it is) Ramble ramble from ya boy Greg. Thanks for watching
@@GregTardif I can always find AV musk. I’ll send some to you if you’d like. It’s a whopping $4! Yeah, the vintage Williams, as well as the other vintage soaps I have, do have a bit of a musty kinda funk to them. I use em and haven’t had any problems with them.
Some great choices there, aqua velva is my favorite drug store aftershave it reminds of my father, don’t pick up a pee smell though. I just subscribed old man Bailey turned me onto this channel. Stay safe!
Nice lineup, Greg! Looks like to have a a lot of Fine aftershaves. 😁 How do you like them overall? Also, not sure if it's still available, but The Razor Company sourced some Aqua Velva from Spain, comes in a glass bottle. Very nice scent, but I'm not sensing any 'pee'. The Spanish version has a lighter 'crisper' scent to my nose. 👊😁
Thanks James! I may be alone on the pee scent and may stem back to some childhood memory or something🤷 fine aftershaves are phenomenal. They are low cost and perform well. I ventured out a bit this year trying all kinds of things. The Sacré Bleu from PAA is based off of the euro scent of aqua velva. I was hovering over the buy option the other day on the Spain version of the aqua velva. Maybe I’ll get some soon! Thank you for watching
Try Proraso Green- Menthol and Eucalyptus Oil in a perfect refreshing and cooling blend. Their shave creams are great too, but hard to find sometimes. I've heard that the AC Bigalow shave cream is the same, made under license from Proraso. I've tried the green and it's exactly the same. Love to hear your rerview of those sometime.
Hi Greg, my all time favorite aftershave is Fine Fresh Vetiver and because I heard it will not longer be produced I stocked some bottles just in case. I like Fine stuff in general😉, because it works for me and it's kind of traditional shaving gear. Have a good one and stay safe 🪒💈
Oh man! I should probably order some then! Wanted to try it…always more to purchase lol! Yeah Fine is great for sure! Do you like their soaps too? Be safe
Although it will not bump Stetson from the top spot for drugstore a/s, Skin Bracer by Mennen is a glaring omission from the pack. Another to consider is Gillette Arctic Ice, as it provides an updated/modern scent to the drugstore mix. As for the Aqua Velva, come on man.
I do need to get some skin bracer. Once I’m back on aftershaves I’ll pick up a bottle. I don’t know what it is. I like aqua velva, it’s just that initial hint 🤷
Very nice! Yeah I’m not a super fan of the scent of Brut (on me). But I can see how it would work for some people for sure. Have you been able to reaquire brut?
Hi Greg, nice video i really lite it(i'll must try some Fine i think🤔).Have you ever tried Floïd the genuine? It's an Italian classic after shave, you can find it in all old barbers.
I use Snake Bite for night shaves. Or any other time I don't use alum... Unless I'm using a new blade, then I don't use anything. It's hard being a shave diva!
Hello Greg, great video. I have a Brut splash on I a plastic bottle I use as an aftershave. I heard some other people say you shouldn't use alcohol based after shave because it damages the skin. I was thinking of getting a nivea balm and then applying brut afterwards. What are your thoughts?
Maybe do the brut first then the balm. Or any type of moisturizer really. Some say it’s ok do do thick and then light but it to me it feels more natural to do light to thick
Here is a couple more Duke Cannon Ice Cold Aftershave Balm Nivea Sensitive and Cooling Sensitive aftershave balm Aveda Dual Action aftershave balm I have all of the matching aftershaves for all of my soaps.
Thanks for sharing! Yes you're right Nivea Sensitive is great stage for sure. Haven't tried the Aveda balm yet however. I usually try to get the matching such, I'm finding, I prefer trying more aftershaves than different soap scents because the aftershave/ colognes stay longer smelling up my face the longest. but match match is a good move too. Thanks Carl
I'm a youngling without a father what should I use I mostly care about quality I dont care about scent or no scent just want my face to feel good after a shave
I shave my whole head, so that means i use a ton of aftershave. I learned to dilute it with witch hazel on youtube. Its cheaper, smells strong enough cause i buy some stuff thats already too strong. Its called barber. Its actually an eau de cologne so yea, covering my whole head with it is just a bit strong. I like strong and its too strong. Smells amazing. I have fun though. Bald headed guy all about some aftershaves! I also buy some gallons of other aftershave, i use it as floor cleaner in my house. OMG my house smells awesome when im done! Ladies love it and i dilute that with isopropyl alc 99% and water cause thats a lot of smell! Basically any aftershave i decide im not crazy about, i will also just use it as a cleaner. Not waisted money.
Hello , I just want to ask about a perfume which was available in the nineties, I can’t remember it’s name, but I recall its package, the package had windmill with British rural home with British flag , and it looks similar to silver Lapidus perfume , if you have any idea about such description, please notify me,
Sure! I’ve touched on it again a few times in a few round up videos. But overall, I still think for the money it’s a good razor. It doesn’t feel as well built as some of the other razors but it’s a good razor. Let me know if you have any other specific questions regarding it. Thanks for reaching out
Aqua Velva, the first time I smelled it, I thought it smelled like dirty diapers. I think it's the powderiness of the aftershave that reminds me of the smell of wet wipes, which I would use when changing my kids' dirty diapers. I still don't like the smell too much, but I've gotten past the diaper smell memory.
Haha goodness. Yeah maybe it is a memory thing for me instead of pee but something that was used to cover up the smell of pee 🤷 the brain is a wild place
