Thanks Dr. Chan in advance! I discovered your channel 15 minutes ago after I was researching some material on Chia seeds, it is heartening to learn that your channel has an authentic ring to it. People get carried away and strive to quick fix their health issues by following the advice of unqualified individuals who are on RU-vid to get more views for a commercial reason. Sadly, RU-vid gives them the opportunity to disseminate pseudo science and misinformation without keeping a tab on them.

Thanks for your encouraging words, and it is most timely, because I have been discouraged lately, I am human too after all, by the fact that science based, responsibly balanced information is not as appealing as extreme "the lies xxx been telling you' or "Eat or Do this ONE XXX to reverse your YYY disease" kind of content. For example, even as I advocate and been spending all my working and even waking hours trying to find ways to awaken and encourage people to improve their lifestyle and diet instead of depending on medications for chronic diseases control, I would still not bash the use of pharmaceuticals because for many people, there is a role for the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals even in lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and to some, pharmaceuticals are not just useful, they can be lifesaving. But alas, that position, that message is not appealing to most. So often I feel I am trying so hard to create content for nothing. Your encouraging words is most timely and appreciated. Blessings, Dr Chan

Hi Dr. Chan! I stumbled across your channel while looking into chia seeds. I am a Sebi-ite, so I agree with you, and I really appreciate your honesty and hard truth. Please don't be discouraged about some comments. I am a firm believer that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear! You are that teacher and a very good one!!!

I have recently decided to cut out coffee from my diet, because it is too bitter for it to be drank plain and I want to reduce sugar consumption. I have always added a little honey to my green/white tea, but recently starting buying better quality tea, more sophisticated tea rituals and have been slowly reducing added honey to enjoy the subtle/delicate flavors.

Update, after doing Dr. Chan's birthday challenge sugar free, no sweeteners I no longer need sweeteners in the coffee. I enjoy it with whole milk or black spiced with herbs.

Yes, you're right. Ugh. OK... rethinking my strategy to quit sugar. Don't replace it, just ditch it.

Glad you agree, many people don't. And I do get many hate comments whenever I advocate against turning too quickly to sugar alternatives . Cheers

Yeah just ditch it. Once you no longer eat all that sugar you are going to be shocked how sweet regular raw vegetables are, like carrots, broccoli, cabbage etc. And avacados, omfg, eat them when they're just starting to soften to semi soft the taste is delicious. Closest I can describe how they taste to me is kind of like kiwi but not acidic. My guess is that it is the cellulose that tastes so sweet to me seeing as how it is in fact a saccharide.

Dr. Chan what about Allulose?..Your words are always trusted 100%..Thank You!
@TheHabitsDoctor
@TheHabitsDoctor 5 месяцев назад
The FDA states that allulose is “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS); but instead of going down the rabbit hole of digging into all the available studies on allulose and figuring out what to take away from the studies, as I tried to do in the video, 'Simplicity is Powerful', so let's Keep it Simple & Powerful by learning and developing a Habit of Enjoying food and drinks WITHOUT the need to add ANY kind of sweeteners. It is not easy, but entirely possible.

Doctor, where do you practice ? Do you treat liver disease, liver cancer and such ? My mother travelled to Canada to do a biopsy and she also had a failed ercp today, they said her bile duct is blocked, I don't know what it must be but you seem like an excellent doctor so I wonder if you treat this (or if you know someone who does)? Thank you

Do u think the recommended amount of sugar is too much and will develop deseases also ? So people should aim for 0 suagr ? Coz its so hard to avoid all deserts always
@TheHabitsDoctor
@TheHabitsDoctor 5 месяцев назад
The recommended daily amount for added sugar is a 'Not more than xxx grams per day', which to me is actually more a 'Target' level than a 'Recommended' level, especially for people who exceed that amount (which is majority of people) ; so if I were to rephrase recommended added sugar intake, I wld phrase it as 'Aim for and work towards zero added sugar as much as you can but as a minimal target, aim to have not more than xxx grams per day' but of course that is unwieldy and maybe even deemed unreasonable or Unrealistic by many people ..

I totally agree. We gotta change our taste buds and get them used to bitter foods. But wow people don't like that at all. Since I reduced sugar I'm shocked at how sweet things are. It's ridiculous and unnatural. Well said Dr. People should find out how sweeteners and alternatives like honey react in the blood and during digestion that is the reason one would want to reduce. A little honey is ok but with diabetes it's just like sugar in the blood😮

Dr. Chan, what about RAW UNFILTERED honey? I heard it’s superior to regular honey, which often is adulterated with high-fructose-corn-syrup. I heard raw honey is good for our gums & does not encourage tooth-decay.
@TheHabitsDoctor
@TheHabitsDoctor 4 месяца назад
Honey, including raw honey, may have some additional nutrients as compared to sugar, but honey is still a high sugar food, you can check out the video I made on 'Does Honey Raise Blood Sugar' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kwy307Gjuuw.htmlsi=yGdtkKoTksR4tiPx

Chukran (thank you). I agree not to add sweeteners to our food. But I know honey is healthy. I won't add it as a sweetener maybe, but I think it's ok to add a little bit of honey as a topping with my oatmeal for example. Do you think that would be ok? Isn't the issue the addiction with adding something "sugary" to everything we eat? If I understood correctly
@skwish6401
@skwish6401 5 месяцев назад
Honey means honey should be raw and unpasteurized which may be or may not be organic.
@TheHabitsDoctor

Chukran is errrrr Arabic for thank you?? 🙂 Re: yr question abt honey, whilst there are some good stuff such vitamins and other micronutrients in honey, honey is still essentially very high in sugar, I have done many videos on honey, you can check them out. So whilst I have never and would never label any food, whether sugar or honey, to be a 'NEVER' food, I am advocating that they NOT be a 'REGULAR' food in one's diet in whatever amounts. My approach in helping people, including my patients, is to get them to develop habits that are not just healthy promoting but enjoyable too, and a added sugar / sweetener free habit can be very enjoyable whilst being very 'powerful medicine' at the same time. Blessings, Dr Chan
