Best Ambient Synth Shootout #95: Alesis S4 QuadraSynth - Song 1

This is the first song with the S4 QuadraSynth. It's a 64 voice 16-part multitimbral ROM-based synthesizer from the early 90s.
I used for the recording the following FX chain:
S4 QuadraSynth - Roland EF-303 - Digitech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated
The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track.
Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)

I’m thinking of buying one. Just the kind of module you don’t see in the “hype” studios, way overlooked. This could be hard to get in the future. Really amazed by the sounds and presence of this unit. Thanks alot for this video.

I got the Quadrasynth plus at a decent price and was not disappointed. If you're looking for ambient experimental sounds paired with traditional keyboard and organ it's a worth while venture.

Nice, I like this synth. I bought one years ago, made some sounds with it and am looking to push more limits with it soon. That mix section can get wild if one creates some spectacular keyboard tracking. I have a few ideas, and I only have a couple older sounds I showcased on here in my channel. They're very primitive to my older now self.

Many thanks for your comment :-) I was just using Midi and controlled through Cubase. Keep in mind that I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks to make this one. It wasn't a single take.

Hey Christian, i just bought a used S4 plus and have tried for hours to get it to receive midi messages but no luck. I own a QSR keyboard as well and have no issues but this rack will not receive midi from my keyboard! It is driving me mad, any ideas would be a life saver!thank you

Hmm, that's difficult. You crosschecked, that the midi cable is ok? I think one should see it on the display when receiving midi messages, but I can't verify this, because I haven't my S4 anymore. Can you hear the demo song? Just to make sure that the audio out is working.

This sound amazing ! I stumbled here because someone has offered me one these as a trade ... Any Idea what they are worth these days? do people share patches ? it doesn't look like the sort of thing that I would get into programming

I keep most of them ;-) I just sold the following synths Roland M-VS1, Akai Miniak , Ensoniq SQ-R, Korg Wavestation SR and Yamaha TG-33 because of different reasons.
