@@Skeletor_the_Bigg I know, made for him by a foreign power. Ironically due to the unique spectacles on the helm, it is basically a helm of a fool. I am not fully sure why it was made like that but I do know it was part of a full set of armour.
Allegedly as he went progressively more crazy, he became obsessed with this helmet, and started wearing it everyday, including on official meetings. He had the glasses fixed to the helmet to allow him to read documents, while wearing it.
But, the whole song is about the 189 Swiss Guards who deffended the pope to death. It's not about the Crusaders nor the Templars, it's about the Sack of Rome 1527.
It might be weird but the vibe that I got from the last helmet was like if muslims conquered Rome and went to Vatican palace Pope would face them as a boss fight with that helmet on his head.
@@einflinkeswiesel2695 No, it is quite literally a modern art piece with modern aesthetic sensibilities and zero historical value. That isn’t how a helmet would have been decorated in the 13th century.
ngl I Sallet used to be my favourite until I studies the Armet/Closed helm (basically the same) and I came to the conclusion that they have the same benefits as a sallets, the only difference is that for maximum protection with a sallet, you would need a seperate pieces for maximum head and neck protection (that piece being a bevor and gorget) but the closed helm has it already built in. Both are extremely effective and amazing helmets, but the closed helmet has (in my opinion) better qualities of a helmet than a sallet, making it (in my eyes) a superior helmet.
I really liked 4 and 6. Of course the Beakie and Bucket are classics too. My personal favourite helmets (not Knights) are the Chain-Veiled Viking helmet, the Corinthian, and the Roman Legionary Helmet with Death Mask.
@@Rynewulfyeah most of these aren't even "medieval" helmets, there's only one or two that are even historical, with all the others being renaissance/pike and shotte era, cheap reproductions, or completely fictional
I thought this was gonna be abt function rather than style. But I gotta go with the german klappvisor bascinet or Hounskull (first one looking damn judgy and the second one kinda friendly, but both very good at protecting)
I'd be way more scared of Henry III's helmet than any of the others on this list. That hedgehog/lion thing, Henry's helmet, Savoyard Helmets or any other of those uncanny helmets make you look like a damn dark souls boss. I aint scared of those crusader's helmets, but imagine being a peasant standing face to face with a man in full ornate place, his helmet representing a smiling face, his eyes covered in spectacles, and on his head, two big horns. That mf is scary.
Almost agree, but horns (especially huge ones) are cringe and flat tops (like on the early crusader helms) don't deflect good, thus bad. also my fav are those "guardsman" helmets - the bowl with a rim, with eye holes in the rim, combined with bascinet it's kino
The Middle Style of Great Helm looks so much better than the later Sugarloaf .And the Houndskull is the peak of late XIVth and early XVth aesthetics . Phillip the Second and his Father Charles the Ist had so much drip .
I only really have experience in making knifes (working on an Indonesian kris at the moment mainly as a test). However, I definitely have a knight's helmet (and Nordic helmet, and a chainmail) on my bucket list - anybody else having trouble with youtube being ungodly slow at loading letters when typing?
