Did both ankles racing motorcross external reduction internal fixation is killer for the first couple weeks. Took no pain killers or anti inflammatory. My tip personally is get a band and work your quads your bone will heal faster then your muscle atrophy. So even if you can handle weight bearing at some point your muscles won’t help you they will hurt you more

I crawled for 7 weeks and got my walking cast off after 11 weeks. I have forgotten what it feels like to feel cute at this point. I didn't take a single pain pill. @DA-jw4lx
@DA-jw4lx 3 года назад
@@Disk-Etiquette Oh my gosh, that was over 4 years ago, I don't remember. But if possible, I try to take either organic supplements or supplements of high quality. The other thing that works also is if you make turmeric milk. You don't necessarily have to use milk, you can use water because by boiling it for 20 minutes it naturally thickens up. As a matter of fact, I don't use milk when I make mine because there are times milk causes me inflammation. Make sure you grind some black pepper in it if you are going to make some, this way your body will absorb the turmeric. I wish you all the best!
@glennvannijevelt1133
@glennvannijevelt1133 2 года назад
Fab advise. Took One full teaspoon of high quality Turmeric + 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper + honey with a cup of Unsweetened Yoghurt - Every Morning or before Lunch. Avoid gaining weight by skipping bread and pasta and do 8-16 Intermittent Fasting if possible. The last thing that the ankle need is excess weight during recovery time. Eat lots of protein (Fatty fish is the best) + vegetable + Fresh fruits + Almond & Pistachios. If you are diabetic or has a diabetic family member, make sure it gets monitored and medicated properly.

Well, I just broke my ankle on May 15, 2023. Had surgery to put plate and screws in my fibula on May 17 (I live in Canada, so no worries about cost). I'm very fortunate to have my husband doing everything to help me. I find it incredibly frustrating not being able to do anything but sit around--especially at the beginning of gardening season. On June 6 I go to get this big heavy cast removed and replaced with a lighter cast. I wish I could say I was doing something really sporty or fun when I broke my ankle, but I wasn't. I was just walking. Welcome to your 50's!

Thank you SO MUCH for this information! My surgeon sent me home with a short boot after my cast. I was in terrible pain and of course it was the weekend. X ray showed I was fine...but OH the pain! When it came time for the boot again, I requested a tall boot like you suggest here. What a difference it made! I was able to tolerate the boot and added a second thicker sock and an insole as suggested here again to increase comfort. It amazed me that my Dr. did not use any of these suggestions in his protocol. They made ALL the difference!!! THANK YOU!

Trimalleolar fracture with surgery...titanium plate and screws. Now in walking boot. I did it trying to slow down on a large twisty slide meant for 6-12 year olds. My 3 year old grandaughter wanted to follow her brother so I said only if Neena goes with you! My foot got caught on side and was on sideways when we reac hed the bottom. I tweaked it into place but quickly realized something was very wrong. So thankful it was me and not my granddaughter!

I slipped on a step fell backwards and my foot caught the hard edge of the step as it came down. I heard a huge crack and then felt the pain. I had a trimalleolar break and dislocation with fractures in my tibula and fibula. That was 11 weeks ago. Since then I've had surgery 2 plates a rod and screws. I wore a hard cast for 10 days and an aircast boot for 7 weeks which I removed at night. I am now wearing a lace up shoe/trainer. I started physio 4 weeks ago couldn't move anything at first but now with ongoing exercise I can walk short distances with just one crutch. Progress is very slow 🐌 and I've been told it may take up to a year before I have full mobility. It has been hugely challenging and debilitating. I keep focused and I keep positive. It's also important to take painkillers so you can tolerate more movement. This is a hard and lonely journey and I feel for everyone going through it but don't give up I'm certainly not going to. Good luck 👍 💓

The reality is not a single person ever in the history of time needs to be encouraged to put more weight on their foot (because they do it out of necessity and want to start moving well before it's ready). In a practical world I have had 100s of people hurt themselves by putting too much weight, and I've never had anyone not eager to start moving again when it was ready.

Rolled my ankle last Saturday. Definitely fractured. Won't be able to see the Orthopedic doctor until next week so not sure how severe it's broken. The sucky part is it's the good leg. Back 5 years ago I snapped my other leg in half at the knee, also suffering tibia/fibula fracture requiring plates and screws on each side of my leg. Due to RA I haven't gotten full strength back in the leg and I'm starting to doubt I ever will, so I'm having an extremely difficult time trying to use crutches so I'm having to use a wheelchair most of the time this past week. Word of advice- Be careful with long-term corticosteroid use. We believe it could have played a huge roll in me now suffering from osteoporosis.

The first two weeks after surgery were terrible. I have a total of 12 screws, stitches and staples. Because of the swelling, my cast rubbed against the staples, it was terrible. But the worst was getting the staples removed...I screamed bloody murder. I'm approaching week four, doing a lot better, but still have a long road ahead of me. Watching this in April 2022, because I’m in a cast from breaking my ankle in three places. Tons of pain and surgery and half the hardware store later I’m on the mend. The pain after surgery was killer and definitely the worse than the actual break. Lot’s of great ideas in this video, a lot of them I do already. I’d like to add that the regrowth process is painful as well. My nerves fire and aching tends to happen in the evening, falling to sleep is difficult some nights. I’ve had to take a half of a scripted pill just to get to relax at times.

The full motion I’m lacking is like if you sit on the floor and reach for your toes, pulling them back (dorsiflexion). He said it’s the hardest one to get back. You really have to work at it. Still gets very sore the next day after i walk about, but i can feel myself getting stronger and stronger. I also have the dorsiflexion problem. I do loads of stretching which definitely helps, i'd recommend calf and achillies tendon stretches they help a lot. I'm mainly trying to regain the ability to squat down properly. It's very awkward when you have poor dorsiflexion range of motion. But obviously things are going really well. Mines is getting a lot better, the pain. As of the last 3 days I’m down to taking 2 Tylenol 625 mg once, mainly before bed, to rest well. 18 days with non dislocated fibula ankle fracture. I’m in a boot (I had a splint from ER, but now in a United Ortho AIR Cam Boot, self paced , no doctor). 44 years old, healthy. Im mobile on the knee scooter. Been mobile on it since day 7. I do only go to restroom and kitchen. Yesterday I helped my 10 year old mop the gym where our cat and 5 kittens are, it was a disaster given my daughter trying help best to do whatever she could to help around the house. I thank my baby dearly she’s been an angel for the both of us these past 18 days. I’ve bath 3 times, basically once a week. I wash up each day at the bathroom sink. It’s easier if you put your scooter on the breaks, get it close to the sink, then brush teeth, groom hair, fix eyebrows if needed (to feel somewhat whole it help the mental side of the healing process). I use the Blender for fruit water, green smoothies (try to put as much good nutrients inside of myself as possible). It’s fast and get me back to the recliner fast. I as well been just using my George Forman grill for food, and the Rice Multi Cooker all on the same counter or side of the kitchen. Most of the time when I’m feeling to week I’ll have my daughter pass the things out the frigid and freezer/re put them in. We are camping out on the sofa recliner since day 7. It’s the day I got my Knee scooter and drudged myself out of bed for the first time. The recliner was more comfortable than the bed especially with elevating it 23/7, and the environment was a vibe for my mental state of openness. It made me feel more in control again, instead of helplessness in that bedroom. I stop emotionally crying so much when I came out that room, actually I didn’t cry again. Now I’m wondering if I can ride a stationary bike since aim non weight bearing. I don’t have a doctor/orthopedic, non insurance so if your able to find out I would gladly appreciate you informing me by email or here. @@justmommyandbabygirl Thanks for your thoughtful and detailed response. I've been doing some of the things you mention such as the bathroom routine and the scooter and the juicing (although I do shakes), but I have not even had my surgery yet! haha I go in on Wednesday. It sounds like you didn't need surgery right? Re: the scooter I got one too and got the extra foam seat cover with the faux sheepskin but the airiest digs into my leg, which is of course already smaller and weaker (ugh). Any tips on that? My doctor said I will come home in a splint that is wrapped and when I go back about 2 weeks later I get the air boot cast thing. So it sounds like you are doing it right. To your question about the stationary bike, I think a bike is considered weight bearing so probably shouldn't do it yet. I asked my doctor when I can expect to start physical therapy and he said that would be when I get the "walking boot," which is supposed to happen at the 6 week mark after surgery assuming the bones have healed. I believe in general it takes 6 weeks for that and that is the point that a person can do weight bearing activities. I highly recommend, if you don't have insurance, that you invest in a few PT sessions once you are weight bearing. I think there are also some solid PT videos on RU-vid. You should probably get those exercise bands. I got the loop ones and I am also gong to get the non-loop ones. I like the name Phoenix Rising ❤️

Been nearly a year since I broke both of my ankles. Talus, tib and calcaneus fractures. Standing/walking for multiple hours at work and they still KILL me

@@Capreeca about 3/4 months ago I had another surgery to remove the hardware and have arthroscopy done to remove arthritis buildup. That has helped a bit but I do still suffer from subtalar arthritis and after standing/walking for 5+ hours my subtalar joint becomes very swollen and rolling my ankle in or out is extremely painful. It's not any of the bones that got damaged and hurt me. It's the damage Ive done to my joints and it's awful. Weird thing is that xrays and CT scans show I still have good joint space for my talus and subtalar joint so I still don't understand why I have arthritis in my joints from the injury

I fell off in a horse riding accident in November, my left ankle bent under me and then my whole weight landed on my ankle..surprisingly I was able to walk to my car and drive home. It turned out to be a very stable fibula fracture and it’s been a little over two months now and I’m back to walking with no limp but there is still pain and lack of flexibility so I guess it’ll take time. Super frustrating how this changes up your whole routine especially if you’re used to being active! :/

Broke my ankle and lower tibia when I rolled my ankle. Surgery with pins screws and plate. Got MRSA infection from surgery. Second surgery to clean out infection and hardware was removed because my bones had healed. Found I now lost cartilage in my ankle due to infection. Was on antibiotics for 3 months. Went back for follow up and more X-rays. Told me my ankle collapsed and now I’m having a third surgery Jan 24th and have to have ankle fusion. Because my ankle collapsed I’m no longer a candidate for ankle replacement as was told six weeks before my ankle collapsed. Was told I could get ankle replacement after a year of ankle fusion surgery. Also hate that my surgeon is not one to prescribe pain meds when I run out. I understand they are habit forming but constant pain really sucks. I haven’t been able to walk for 6 months and won’t be able to walk for 2 or 3 months after fusion surgery. Hopefully fusion surgery will work and I won’t need replacement surgery but if my gait is off and other parts of me are hurting I will get replacement surgery. I’m 54 and was very active 6 months ago. Not looking forward to getting sliced open again and definitely worried about infection again. If you think your wounds are infected go to your surgeon and make them culture infection. My surgeon prescribed me the wrong antibiotics over the phone for 31/2 weeks and wasn’t put on MRSA fighting antibiotics until after second surgery. Maybe my cartilage could of been saved if they would of cultured my infection earlier. I constantly sent pics and complaints about my surgical sites and asked if this looks infected but was never asked to come in . Only after I developed an abscess at surgical site and 2 days later had second surgery. Forget mychart go in and get a culture.

I broke my fibula last week, was told in A&e it was stable, went to fracture clinic two days later, didn’t X-ray it like they said they would they put it in a boot sent me on my way and told to come back a week later for X-ray to see how it’s healing, well, I was told I can weigh bear on the boot with crutches, not sure if there is something wrong because it is so damn painful I am just managing to put heal down and hobble literally from room to room with crutches. No way could I manage to get to hospital so hired a wheel chair, yet I have so called friends telling me basically I’m being mardy and should persevere through the pain….it’s excruciating literally too painful to walk on it, is anyone else this bad after one week and two days?

Don’t listen to what anyone else says except a doctor, if it’s too painful maybe it’s not healed enough, and your body is telling you to slow down and let it heal more. Listen to your body, you know your body and what is too much pain for it. 😊

I have a weber a fibula broken a week ago. Should I be bed ridded completely? I usually make trips to rest room in wheel chair or with crutches. Will this disturb the bone formation?

Today is like day 70 for me. I have a distal fibula fracture left leg. I'm In a boot which was place on me 2 weeks later. But had a soft slint from er til then. That same week I broken my leg. Those crutches wasn't it. I got hella ace bandages wrapped the part for under the arms and hands because it was making my palms sore using crutches. So I went to the goodwill and brought a walker $4.98. Then Walmart and got a shower chair $34. Goodwill ran out I probably could of got it for $10. But I'm telling you that the Walker is the bestfriend you will have for a month. Wrap the handles in ace bandages to for your hands. And get a resistant band when you sit down wrap one on walker and one around your heel so it can keep your leg elevated from the ground and place under your foot so it won't hit the ground. In bed buy you a knee pillow and a wedge pillow if you have a neck pillow put it under your ankle too so your foot wont rotate to much it will keep it stable. Use ice, heat, Epsom salt soaking, and tends unit. I dont like meds and those things helped relieve pain once in a blue moon ibuprofen. That norco will constipate you. Take your vitamins and go to Bob & Brad physical therapy RU-vid they helped alot. Oh for crutches I used only when I had to go somewhere. And I have 14 stairs to my apartment door so trust me. It's a pain in the butti hope that helps

I suffered an ankle fracture without displacement, my ankle is immobilized in a walking boot, do you think it is bad to perform quad extensions and hamstring curls with a technogym type guided machine, with a light weight to continue strengthening the leg? I ask this question because I tried the last time and I did not feel any discomfort or pain.

Overall I would officially recommend be careful 😀 and trust your doctor. But in a real world sense if there is absolutely no pressure and you don't slip and fall or something random, it is beneficial to strength train and exercise uninvolved muscles. Generally you can tell right away if something hurts. Just be safe and trust your doc!

Thank you for this video. I was non weight bearing for about eight weeks and then crutches and a boot for two weeks. When I went to the doc, she says you can start walking. I was shocked! I started with tennis shoes and two crutches. Pain. This pain is worse than any phase of healing. After one week, I put on an ankle brace. It helps. Next week, I’ll try one crutch around the house. Thank you for your video. I wish I had seen it weeks ago.

I'm recovering from a Maisonneuve fracture which required surgery. It's healing well and I'm ready to ditch the walker and the clutches. I'm just wondering about the ligaments...if they were totally torn how do they repair without surgery? Do I need the boot at all times or should I get some massage and move the ankle a bit (no pain).

For some context, it's been now 5 or 6 weeks. Had a cast on for 3 and a walker boot for 2 or 3 now. O feel like taking the boot off and moving the ankle up and down had helped lowering the swelling and bruising. I can walk with the boot and no clutches and I have no pain at all. So for all of you broken ppl, good luck, we'll be back playing in no time!
