I have watched several of your videos for Hearing Aid Dehydrators. I have an Odicon More 1, with rechargeable batteries. #1.. I cannot remove the batteries for drying. #2.. I cannot leave them overnight in the dryer because I have to recharge them overnight. Nor do I have 8 hours during the day to dry them as I am wearing them. Is there any that I can use that will solve my problem? Thanks in advance.

Great video as always. Can you shed your light of clarity on the appropriate drying method when seeking to regularly dry rechargeable Resound Linx Quattro hearing aids? My audiologist says that I should consider investing in a drying solution but the Tech department of Resound here in the UK said to me that they do not recommend heated dryers (although Resound actually sells one!). Is there a potential problem with rechargeable batteries and the dryers heat source?

So, if rice is the same as dehydrators, and for rice is proven that it doesn't do anything for tech (except forcing you not to touch phone for a while), it seems that you'd get the same result with just leaving the aid at the table, eg evaporation will happen on its own anyway since air around it has less moisture than what's in the aid. Pity you didn't test that as well, as a reference value. Especially since bunch of people don't do any drying anyway. Thanks for sharing this though, it was very informative. I think only thing that does something is that redux machine. And yes, it would be interesting to see what, if anything, those dehydrators can do in case of full submerging aids in the water. I don't expect anything from them in that situation either. Hairdryer on cold could be more useful since it creates proper wind so dry air can come and reach the crevices under forced air, as opposed to slow or no movement. I think it makes sense that you test this more thoroughly, and compare with 'doing nothing', in case my hypothesis is correct, you'd save people a ton of money on those devices if they really aren't effective as I think. Since you emphasize that people should be informed and not overpay things that aren't useful, and you're the only one in position to do those tests and provide results, it would be great if you find time to do more in depth analysis.
@jw_023
@jw_023 4 года назад
My pick for the best of these in a complete submersion situation(aside from the redux) without damaging the aid from heat would be the PerfectDry Lux since that uses forced air drying(essentially a fan to circulate the air) combined with 113 degree heat. I have a theory that sticking some desiccant beads in it would make it even better.

I'm brand-new to hearing aids, so I just ran into this video. What I really want to know is how effective the PerfectDry is with their claimed 45 minute drying cycle. I have rechargeables, so I can't dehydrate for 8 hours. I'd also like to know if the claimed heating temperature is accurate and safe for lithium batteries. And, if rice is as effective as anything else you tested, why pay for something else?

@onshisan
@onshisan 3 года назад
Very good initial approach to this question, and it shows how taking this question seriously is worthwhile. Further tests would be better informed by actual immersion of several hearing aids (hopefully some with great IP ratings, and some without!), followed by dehydration in the Redux to determine real-world "extreme" moisture levels. From there, time-series data can be developed for the various at-home dehydrators by interrupting dehydrating at standard intervals short of complete dehydration. It will take a lot of work, but... for science! As for this demonstration, it would seem that air circulation alone (in a protected, but passively ventilated container) may even be sufficient to handle "daily" levels of moisture, so long as ambient humidity is sufficiently low to support evaporation overnight. Presumably this will not suffice (within 8 hours) for significantly higher levels of humidity.

If you have rechargeables that you charge overnight then you have to use the dryer during the day. That means you'll be without your hearing aids for a couple of hours during the day while they dry. Or, you could reverse that and dry them overnight and charge during the day. Either way, seems like you'll be without your HA for a couple of hours during the day when you really need them. Bit of a conundrum here.

I've looked at products like the $70-$80 Flow-med Dry-Cap UV and thought: UV light that kills germs that were in my ear, before I put that hearing aid right back into that ear. Gimmick. And the fan is basically a $3 PC fan. If you're adventurous, you can splice and connect to an old phone charger or you can spend
@onshisan
@onshisan 3 года назад
You can also accumulate "germs" on your hearing aids from the back of your ear (if you have BTE hearing aids), from your hands during handling, and from the environment... all of which can intermingle and end up inside your ear canal. It's not a huge concern for me, but I wouldn't assume that "it came from my ear, so it can go back in my ear" has you covered. Following that same logic, would you be thrilled about the prospect of spitting into a tube, letting it sit on your bedside table over night, and then tossing back the vial of spit like a shot of vodka first thing in the morning? Speaking in general terms, microbes that are effectively "kept in check" by that various immune functions of your body while they're in your body may thrive outside the body, and end up much more dangerous when re-introduced.
@impoppa9647
@impoppa9647 3 года назад
Why "cheap out" on looking after your $4 to $7K hearing aids? I SMH at people who buy expensive hearing aids and then don't bother to clean and maintain the aids. That would be like buying a car and never changing the oil. So you can create a $10.00 gimmick Great! But why not get something that actually will help protect your hearing aid investment. YES the UV Light is a VERY critical part of the process for the health of your ears.
@davidcrandon2329

Hi Cliff, I have new ks10, my tech said the charger dries them but I don't think so. I see zero evidence of a fan, heater, or blue light. Don't believe my lying eyes? OTOH she has fit me better than several audiologists I've had. I think she is buying some hype that got passed along by Sonova maybe? Or a misinformed "support person" they can call. Anyway I stuffed a couple of those food grade drying packs in the extra space in the charger. Think that's as good as rice or the others? Thanks, Froggy
@DrCliffAuD

Hey Froggy, probably just misinformed. I had a patient try to use food grad drying packs before and the battery contacts rusted.
@1947froggy
@1947froggy 2 года назад
@@DrCliffAuD Hmm, not sure the drying packs would CAUSE rust, but maybe did not do any good. I have a heater type dryer (SERENE) but I have a concern that heating the batteries (even a small amount) will shorten the life over time. Maybe I'll fill the little "bowl" where I put the packs with rice. But rice dust could get into the receivers. IMO it's the part going into the canal (receiver) that has more of a chance to get moisture from the canal. The cashew shape part (BTE) looks pretty waterproof. I sweat profusely when I train especially aerobic. Maybe use the Serene once a week only. This is a very good topic as the buggers cost so much. Suggestion, on YT there is a guy with "Project Farm" channel that does the most awesome side by side carefully measured testing of many common tools. If you can watch a couple and maybe do a deep dive into these dryers. Real side by side measured test, not just descriptions. There is a hint of an issue as you are sponsored, but at least you clearly divulge it. Thanks for your thoughts, happy weekend. :)
