Basic gist of it. Your PSU has integrated surge protection and grounding which eliminates the need for an AVR, and realistically the only time you will ever need a UPS is either 1. you dont autosave your work often. Or 2. You are planning to update your UEFI BIOS firmware, in which case a UPS is absolutely necessary since a power failure mid bios update will destroy your motherboard (and in some cases even the cpu), but most times you dont really need a UPS.
Something to consider when buying either UPS/AVR is also the facility/location. Especially in the provinces and older buildings the power supply will be dirtier than in newer areas. Also some might comment on relying on a backup generator instead of a UPS. Generators don't trigger as fast a UPS and will wreck the system. Plus generators are generally very dirty power also.
No need for UPS. My personal trick para nakasave palagi ang ginagawa ko: Write a macro, CTRL S lang at iset mo on repeat every 10, 20, 30 seconds or whatever. Magbrown out man, sure ka na naka-save ang work mo.
Graphic Artist for 30 years. Maybe half of my career I was using UPS pero eventually extension cord with surge protection na gamit ko. Photoshop and Illustrator has a auto-save function which will save your life. My issue with UPS is they are so damn expensive and you need to buy them every 2 years cause the battery expires. Kahit sabihin pa nila 5 years yan, you will see that in around 2 years palya palya na yan. Surge protection is the practical choice.

Alternative din ang AVR kung wala kang wall outlet na may ground. In my experience kabibili ko lang nitong AVR ko and when I record my voice nawala na yung ground sa background ganun din yung pinaka ground sa computer na kapag mahawakan mo lang yung isang metal na bagay e magaground ka na. Napakalaking tulong nitong AVR. Anyway, very well explained. KUDOS Hardware Sugar.
actually, ilang beses na kong napatayan ng pc while working with my microsoft documents, mas nag improved na nagayon yung auto save nila and if even na hindi mo pa nase save yung file, yung checkpoint nila is on point, kung anong nagawa mo, dun ka nila ibabalik, walang kulang sa gawa mo.

Me personally, I am a gamer at hindi ako katulad ng iba na laging may ginagawa na documents that needs to be saved but I have a UPS. Tama yung sinabi ni Hardware sugar about Ups bakit hindi mo need if gamer or streamer ka pero in my experience sulit din ang may UPS. For example nag ka brownout pero tumagal lang ng 10 secs. At least hindi na force shutdown ang Pc mo also tuloy tuloy parin ang laro mo. Typical UpS has 20mins backup charge bago ito ma drain sapat para mashutdown ng maayos ang pc mo.
for max efficiency and lifetime of the battery of the UPS, make sure to only use the 50% max capacity of the UPS, so if the UPS is 1000va which is around 500-600watts (this will depends on the UPS'es Inverter choice) so lets say its 500watts, just plug devices there that can only take 250watts or lower. why am I recommending to restrict the 50% capacity of the UPS? simple, so you dont casually trigger the overload protection of the UPS.

For me, the UPS can be useful for a gamer/streamer. As long as the modem/router is also connected, it can give the user a short time to tell the audience that there is a power outage and end the stream properly. I saw this in action when I was watching someone's stream.

Bilang lang sa daliri ko ang instances na nawalan ng DSL in my 4 years of residence here. I have UPS both for my PC and Router then nag switch ako sa Generator after 30 minutes or more na nawawalan ng kuryente.

Depende kasi sa ups na gagamitin.pag line interactive may certain protection lang sya. Question po sa mga ups user dito. What would be the best way to maintain and save power. After shutting down the PC 1. Should I turn off and unplug the UPS too ? 2. Should I turn off the UPS and keep it plug? 3. Just keep the UPS running ?
@@markgcarpio2656 Found the answer, Shutdown the PC, Shutdown the PSU; But keep the PSU plugged. Battery lose power overtime. Keeping it plug will maintain the activity and avoid too much lose to the charges as all plugged appliances still draw power even if it''s turned off.
Yung AVR/UPS/Surge Protector, parang insurance sa mga hard earned mong mga rigs or appliances. Ano ba naman yung 2k to 5k sa 50k to 100k value nung nakasaksak sa AVR/UPS. Beside sa lightning strike at pagputok ng transformer sa poste dahil sa malakas ulan, pwede din mangyari ay yung sa mga contruction site na tinamaan nila yung high voltage ng poste, or may biglang naputol na puno tumama sa mga high voltage wire. Hindi naman lahat to mamomonitor mo. So yes, basically gagana naman maski walang avr/ups. Its just an insurance.
for me Playing/Editing/Rendering what ever im doin on my PC i would still need an UPS for peace of mind lalo na kung may mga times na mamamatay ilaw for split seconds just for the peace of mind
Based sa experience ko, ung mga lumang Design na PSU (Generic), sensitive sila sa mga EMI biglang na no display pag biglang may bagong Load sa circuit na pinag sasaksakan ng computer. Nung ginamitan ko ng AVR, nwala na yung problem. Pero sa mga bagong PSU ngayon na may Active PFC at mgandang Voltage Regulation, d na ngkakaproblema ng ganun.
Safe na safe pagka naka UPS. Downside lng ng UPS is you need to renew/replace its battery after 4 to 6 years of usage....My APC brand UPS lasted 6 years before I renewed its wet-cell battery inside.

Para sa akin di na kailangan ang AVR. Lalo na kung mumurrahin din lang. Relay type ang murang AVR at yung magandang klase ay Servo type. Smooth at gradual ang pag adjust ng voltage. Sa relay type, bigla ang pag adjust nya. Nakakasama pa to sa power supply ng comp. Kung searge suppression lang hanap mo dahil marumi ang kuryente mo, no need na din dahil ang mga switching power suppy ng laptop at pc ay may bulit in searge suppressor na to. Mostly lng laptop power supply nag re range ito ng 80vac to 240vac. So para saan pa ang AVR?

Agree with AVR not being required but in some regions here in PH, like where I live, voltage goes down to about 170 Volts- which is pretty bad. An AVR helps in regulating the voltage to acceptable levels. UPS is absolutely required. You're not exactly using Office apps for work, like in my job where I usually use 3 other applications and 1 company proprietary one, losing your progress due to a power outage is not exactly ideal.
Naka avr ako and sometimes nag shushutdown while gaming, akala ko nung una GPU ang issue, pero na realize ko after few weeks na yung extension na gamit ko is mababa ang maximum voltage, I change into better extension with high voltage and never na nag shutdown ulit 🙂

Nowadays, UPS has a built-in AVR. AVR is useful for voltage regulation, clean incoming power. UPS is useful for both, voltage regulation, with additional surge protection, and backup power for brownout/blackout. Hope this clears things out.
UPS is needed in the province where power outages occur successively 3-4X at 2-5 minutes interval. You save your hard drives. Before my UPS, my hard drives gave out within the year. Now, I have lots of old HDDs that are still functioning.

kailangan mo ang ups hindi lang para masave mo pa ang ginagawa mo sa comp after brown out kundi maiiwasan mo rin ang possible corruption ng data including system files dahil sa biglang power loss. maraming tumatakbong process sa background in realtime. minsan ok lang dahil bihira lang naman daw magbrown out sa kanila and thats good to hear but syempre this is not 1 every 10times because corruption of data due to unexpected power loss is by chance. based on my own exp sa 8 years na running yung personal server ko 24/7 siguro mga more or less 10 times lang nag brown out sa area namin pero 2 times ako nasiraan ng disk instant after brown out. yes hindi lang basta data corruption kundi bad sector while using avr only not to mention my personal computer kung ilang times nangyari na aksidenteng nahugot yung main na saksakan and then ayaw na magboot to windows so I diceded to switch to ups. pero syempre mas madalas magboboot parin naman pero you never know until you press the power button :)
note lang sa power strips na may surge protection.. it wont really work if not connected to ground.. yung metal oxide varistor ng surge protector will need ground to divert surges..
Same lang din po ba sa UPS? Wala kasi kami outlet na 3 prong socket. Plano ko pa naman bumili ng power strip na may surge protector dahil mejo pricey ups.

I’ll make it simple. Computer power supplies specially gold ratings they already have noise filter built in the circuit. Also smps power supply are fully regulated. No need for AVR or power bar surge suppressor. Again your power supply already has it. Clean AC signal is called pure sine wave then rectified to convert DC must be straight wave form we call this pure dc very less ripple. Now do you need a UPS? (uninterruptible power supply) do you have sensitive programs that when brownouts occurs you need to save files safely? If yes then u need ups units smart ups unit also can automatically safely shutdown your computer or it gives you a notification or loud beep if main ac line trips. I hope this helps
Computer PSU gold ratings only pertain to its efficiency in drawing power and using it for the rig. Those PSU noise filters and regulators you are talking about indeed do the job but only to a certain extent. Surge suppressors and AVRs protect the PSU, which also protects the components by absorbing the worst of the worst that the power grid can dish out.

surge protectors does not protect your appliances from lightning surges. varistors only works on quick or burst surges, not something to protect againts lightning strikes and similar. also, not all AVR contains varistors, and an AVR is not a varistor. misleading content!

As for me: AVR? : No, don't need it. I got power strip with surge and overload protection. UPS: Yes. Kahit pang games lang yung PC ko and no document to save. Still need it kasi ayokong masiraan ng PC kada mawawalan ng kuryente. At least me panahon pakong mag shut down ng PC.
I will buy a UPS. So I can save my work when a sudden brownout occurs..If you have the budget get a UPS with built in AVR functionality as well and a pure sine wave output. AVR is for voltage regulation only with fluctuating electrical grid Supply. If brownout occurs your PC will shutdown instantly. You cannot save any files you are editing at time of brown. Plus it is a good practice to shutdown your PC properly.
Galing. I agree. No need for a AVR. I modify my own PowerStrips (panther) and install my own MOV. Kasi si Panther noise filtering lang walang surge protection. Cheap AVRs are useless and in 1 instance the voltage regulation screwed up and it actually step UP the AC voltage to 260V. Mas masama pa. UPS is a nice to have device.
Best Decision talaga ang pag pili ko sa AVR ko 3 years ago, was thinking about the UPS but yung problem ko is unstable power connection sa area ko. Walang buwan na walang power fluctuation or sometimes mawala yung kuryente tapos balik after 1 second, tapos wala nanaman 😅😅😅, Stable and clean power supply pinili ko over reserve power.😊😊😊😊, Pero lately pinalitan ng Power Provider namin ang Linya from poste to bahay namin, and nag upgrade na sila nang capacity. so far wala nang fluctuation akong narasan. I prefer AVR than UPS. pag may sudden power interruption or low voltage hindi mo namamalayan yan. Also dont choose cheap PSU. 10yrs plus nko nagwork for home base full time 8-16hrs but i have not use AVR or UPS but if have to choose one AVR ako
i hope you can read this , i have a pc na almost 2 years ago na sakin di ko sya sinasaksak sa avr kasi wala akong avr sa bahay so directly sya naka plug sa wall outlet Then may mga times na accidentally may nakakasanggi ng plug ng pc ko sa outlet like masasanggi ng paa na mag cacause na mauunplug sya et cetera Then as time goes by , yung pc ko nagkakaroon na sya ng issue na while browsing or even gaming yung pc ko is bigla bigla nalang namamatay then bubukas ulit . Others say na the suspect is the PSU or the RAM So chineck ko ang PSU at linilinis every 2 weeks yung fans at yung loob also ang RAMS Then nandun pa din yung issue na mamamatay bigla at bubukas Others say baka sa procie , baka tuyo na yung thermal paste [overheat] So ang ginagawa ko every 2 weeks pag nag ooccur yung issue binabaklas ko lahat from PSU , RAM , GPU na bulok KASI gt 630 lol , PROCIE pati yung HEAT SINK Lilinisin ko lahat then madalas din ako mag palit ng thermal paste sa procie Kaso ganun pa din , may times na namamatay talaga ng kusa like for example sabi nila overheat daw kaso hindi eh minsan kahit kakabukas ko palang bigla bigla nalang namamatay tapos bubukas ulit . UPS is a need especially kapag nasa business ka where you have important files na kelangan na naka secured save para di masayang yung trabaho mo. Buti yung Microsoft Office may autosave if ever may sudden brown out, pero how about yung ibang activities mo lalo na kapag nagpifill out ka ng form online? I have a UPS na nagbaback up ng 30 minutes kapag nagbrown out or kapag natanggal sa saksakan.
Recommended gumamit ng mga UPS lalo na sa mga lugar sa pilipinas na frequent yung mga power outages. Pero kung stable naman yung electrical grid & bihira lang outages sa lugar nyo hindi na rin necessary bumili ng UPS.

latest pc PSU can filter noise from AC power. even voltage drop. anyhow, power interruptions may damage or shorten the life of PSU. it is indeed better to have UPS.
UPS is more functional for use pra sa PC. Since yung mga UPS nowadays have a built in AVR into it. Bagay for people na makakalimutin to save their work while working. But the disadvantage is more expensive than AvR. And requires the battery to be replaced every 1 to 2 yrs of use.

Agree di natin masyadong kailangan ng UPS pero I have it for clean shut downs. Nothing beats the peace of mind na nakukuha mo sa clean shut down. As far as I know, entry level UPS are just priced 1.3k - 1.6k at most. Secure brand.
