I've had one of those Remingtons for years now and couldn't be happier. For what it does and the build quality and the price you'll struggle to find anything better. The fine blade that pops out is great for detail work, while the main blade is very versatile. When it comes to power, it may be a bit weak, but unless you're Chewbacca, you'll be perfectly fine

The Remington has a small extendable fine trimmer. It also should have a ceramic blade which feels very smooth and doesn't snag on your hair.

Finally an educated comparison! Ive been using the remington and its previous model for the past few year in conjuction with a multi blade razor.schick hydro for the detail setting. You are right about the short settings, and with a little pressure you can get it even shorter. Thanks for the review!

I use a small trimmer like the wahl for edging and a hair clipper for length.

The Wahl has a steel blade that may rust if you fail to oil it but the strength of the blades and the power of the motor prevent stubble pulling.

just a note on the remington (not alone with this issue) I'm not sure if its down to the unit ageing quickly but myself and others I know have found that its inability to lock off on a length can lead to the length setting jumping if pressure is applied or if the plastic guide should drag on the skin when shaving, this can obviously seriously mess with your beard.

I've had the Remington for almost a decade and its battery wore out... and I kept on using it plugged into a wall outlet. Eventually the battery wore down so far I couldn't even do that. Worked fantastic even with no maintenance. I supplemented it with a typical razor. I replaced it with the Wahl. Oh my God I hate it so much. Frustrating to switch out the blades, and it snags, and its detail trimmer is too small. Now I'm seriously considering trying to repair my Remington.

I have the Wahl Brand I bought from Amazon for 10.99 and the Wahl is great it shapes and it is close on the shave, I think does fine on beard length I had no issue getting the attachments on. I recommend the Wahl at 10.99 you can't go wrong.

Yeah, my Remmington beard trimmer simply won't die. The only downside is the "adjustable" guard I got with it originally was crappy plastic and broke easily. I love the look and duribilty of the Wahl trimmers (my dog's clipper is a Wahl.. its a beast!)... but this review really makes me question dropping $75 for a Wahl Lithium Ion Plus beard trimmer. Its flashy chrome, LiIon rechargable, and a lasts for hours... but having trouble swapping the "beard guard" vs the "shave to 0" set up may be an issue. :-/

I actually have the braun cruzer. But after 3/4 shaves the blade dulls fast and can be a pain to trim your hairs to a certain length with the attachment.

Very nice review. One of my best trimmers was a Conair many years ago which I broke by dropping it on the floor. I have purchased two other Conair ones but they greatly disappointed. I may try a Remington brand next.

I have the braun, and after a couple months it got all grabby with the hair. I keep it fully charged and lubed. I only use it now for nose hair trimming. Tried a few now and cant seem to find a decent one for keeping decent stuble length trim.

Hey there. Im thinking about buying a trimmer... Ive hard/thick beard and i want a 3-day look. Ive basically come down to 3 options: BABYLISS E845E, PHILIPS QT4015 or QT4090 (but it doesnt look comfortable to use it...). any1 used them and can give some advice on which one to buy? :) cheers

I just bought the Philips for its vacuum, figuring it'd be a great feature, and am at the point of writing their customer service department in all capital letters, because the fool comb won't come off (at least, I can't figure out how, short of breaking it), and I therefore can't get a close enough trim to shave. Nevertheless, in your video, I see no comb. What's your trick?

I been using a wahl peanut for 5 years, it's the best I've used. it's not cordless.. but it works so good I don't mind, it also works well on thin & thick. if anyone knows anything better let me know.

Remington trimmers suck they pull hair like no other. I guess if ripping hair out is by design its good actually I would say it terrific in that regard.

I need to keep my goatee at about an inch long and there is nothing that offers this. Have I missed something. Most everything will bring my goatee to about 3/4 of an inch.

I like my beard to be equal with my hair. I buzz cut my hair with a 3. Is it ok to use a normal hair clippers to trim my beard? I usually shape it into a chin strap with a braun cruzer 5 face and then trim it with normal hair clippers

Thanks for the great comparison. I was wondering what would suggest for maintaining a daily 5 o clock shadow stubble. I have tried the Philips trimmer but as you said it works only upwards. It says you can trim to .5 mm but I dont feel I could get that easily.

I have a very sensitive skin and usually the trimmer/shaver 'pinches' my skin and it sort of gets a small cut on my skin. Wet razor shaves are out of the question they always leave my face with bloody spots. The beard i have is medium and thin/fine facial hair. What electric shaver would you recommend (nothing too high end, just something specific for sensitive skin). Thanks!

mak k dw mate, I got a Wahl lithium ion deluxe grooming set, buy far the best product out there without a doubt. Powerful motor, many accessories/ shaving tools, long battery, easy to use and maintain. There are only 6 grades for beard trimming, but this is definitely enough

Rev0UK1 I have cruzer 4. It pinches hair and doesn't trim properly almost %70 of the beard.. you have to work over multiple times even you can't get best results... i have curly and thin facial hair btw. AND it broke after 1 year of use, started to pinch hairs..

Remington trimmers break way too easily. Braun trimmers are a little higher up the ladder, but are still too fragile. I've had both. Now I'm onto the Philips-Norelco and I hope it will actually last. I wear a full beard, though, so I'm not interested in any of that metrosexual stubble shit.
