Even though we’re pretty much all caught up with the 007 movies here on James Bond Revisited, we figured we’d keep things going until the release of NO TIME TO DIE with a couple of James Bond TOP 10’s, and here’s our first list - THE BEST JAMES BOND VILLAINS!
As a long-time obsessive of the series, my choices for the best Bond villains have shifted over the years, but this is the first time I’ve tried to make such a list after having dug so thoroughly into the movies here on James Bond Revisited. So, I wanted to make it a healthy balance of old and new villains, with a few off-kilter choices here and there.
Some ground rules: James Bond henchmen and hench-women were included. I couldn’t make a villain list without having Richard Kiel’s Jaws, which paved the way for a few interesting additions I hope you’ll like. I also left out the baddies from NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN as they aren’t canon, but I did give them a special shout-out at the end.
Of course, I’m sure I’ve overlooked a few favorites, but that’s what makes lists like this fun - everyone has their own opinions. So make sure to share yours with me in the talkbacks, and I’ll do my best to answer as many comments as possible!
And join us in two weeks for the TOP 10 BEST BOND GIRLS EVER!

Kudos for putting Sanchez so high. IMO the best villian of the series, the man is a sadist, he is a cruel, but you can see why people will want to work for him. Loyalty more important than money, is loyal to his henchmen if they are loyal to him. Also the scenes between him and Bond are phenomenal, yes you can see that Sanchez and Bond are mirror images of each other. Also, Sanchez’s demise is brilliant the way he exclaims “You could have had everything!” and Davi gives a phenomenal performance.

LTK is actually a top 5 Bond film for me as controversial as that may seem, but it’s got a lot to do with Davi’s portrayal of Sanchez. Some of the best scenes are the ones where he’s just chatting with Bond, and that’s while coming from one of the most action oriented Bond films.
@gilesa.4052
@gilesa.4052 3 года назад
Agree with spaceodds, LTK is in my view THE most underrated of all the Bond films, as is Dalton who is a close the Flemings character description yet. Mads Mikleson's Le Chiffre is probably my favorite as the odds are against him and he is desperate, Mads reptile like performance is electrifying. In no order... Le Chiffre Red Grant Silva Sanchez Scaramanga

I think she was originally supposed to be Gemma Atherton's Strawberry Fields, the Agent Bond slept with who then got killed - but production started so late she was already working on the first season of CASTLE by then! I think License to Kill also has the best (and only) headbutt from Bond. In Sanchez' drug lab near the climax, Dalton tosses a beaker of alcohol on a bunsen burner as he turns to give a legit headbutt on some henchman. It's such an epic moment in such an epic film.

Suggestions for lists: - Sexiest Bond girls: Not necessarily the most physically attractive, but the ones who had the most alluring presence and femme fatale vibes. - Best Bond gadgets: No need to limit it just to gadgets Bond uses; the radial saw yoyo from Octopussy, for example was pretty cool. - Top action scenes: The modern Bond films have that Jason Bourne quick-cut shakycam aesthetic, but that doesn't necessarily make the action scenes better. Some of the practical effects in the earlier Bond films were just amazing. - Best cold open: Some of the worst Bond films had some pretty spectacular cold opens, and vice versa. - Best Bonds-that-never-were: A lot of people have been considered to play Bond over the years as you've noted in this series, and it would be interesting to rank them in order whom you believe would have made the best Bond. (It might be equally interesting to do a list of the opposite, the potential Bonds you consider the most ludicrous options.) - Best supporting roles: There have been a lot of Qs, Ms, Moneypennys, and Felix Leiters over the course of the films, some better than others. I'd be curious to know, for example, whether you place Judy Dench or Desmond Llewelyn first.

Great list overall - yeah, Doctor No is not only not all that great as Bond Villains go, he's also...problematic. And Christopher Lee's Scaramanga just didn't work opposite Roger Moore's Bond - it felt like they were acting in two different movies. And nobody in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS was worthy of being a Bond Villain...except maybe Dalton's Bond himself!

I think men would have their legs crossed permanently after watching the movie if that happened given how much pleasure she gets from causing pain and killing

I agree that while the Brosnan franchise slowly devolved into action, I will disagree in regards to the Bond Villans/Girls as they were some of cinematic class. Xenia, Wai Lin, Elektra King, Frost and Jinx were some of the most original, and futuristic characters that all gave Bond the slip and were considerably on par as his femme fatale. Xenia who used sex for assassination, whereas Bond does for information, Xenia beat bond at his own game. Sex. King and Frost as well who were able to manipulate Bond's love for women. While Wai Lin and Jinx both were able to conduct their espionage more successful than Bond.
@cassandramcbride7007

Pierce´s Bond time, was great for women. They were not just some random plot device for the movie to go on. Natalya was a great bondgirl (and personally i think she is the best). rebel, smart and knew how to keep herself alive. Most of the times she does try to do somethings instead of screaming and be annoying like Stacy Sutton. Xenia was just smart and cruel. Probably one of the most ruthless girl of the franchising. While others killed because they need it, Xenia did have some psychotic pleasure killing. She knew how to use sex to get things she need it Wai Lin probably is the most equal to bond. She was resourceful, knew how to get out of bad situations. In fighting she was even more competent that bond itself. Lin even had more control on her emotions, making her ver deadly. Paris Carver was an interesting character (sadly Tery Hatcher performance was weak, and they should had go for Monica Bellucci, like Pierce wanted) Paris resemblences Teresa, in terms of personality. shes strong and knows to survive, sadly when it comes to bond, her love make her vulnerable. I guess that´s why bond did love her. Her death does have consequences in next movies. her death, makes Bond trying to save Elektra and Miranda Elektra is cold and manipulative to a extend of turning everyone for her. The line "no one, can´t resist me" makes her aware of her power over man, and can do everything to them. Elektra is very good finding others weakness and use against them. She does find Renard weakness, a man who aparently had none. Elektra find Bond weakness, which is women. Paris death still haunted James. So, it was easily to play him and win in his game. Even knowing King´s betrayel he did try to save her. She even play her last hand, using her vulnerability "you wouldnt kill me, wouldnt you?" Remind him, she was pawn in a game, and become a queen by necessity and not for evilness. Elektra and bond are very similar. they were betrayed by the ones them love, and had to survive in a deadly game. King, sadly fall in dark path, which Bond, tries so much to avoid. Christmas have the same issue that Paris. In another actress hands, the character would be interessing. Specially because Christmas could easily adapt in dangerous situations. Like Bond, she could be smart and adaptable. She need it to adapt in that male world and not allowing them to diminushing her sexuality. Miranda is one of my favorite villains (together with Elektra, Xenia, Fiona and Severine) not only she is cold, but she can manipulate and use informations at her advantage. If there was any girl that could replace Bond... that would be Miranda. The bad side is that her moral compass is according to her personal agenda. She was a full package and yet despite betraying others, i really like she did fight fair against Jinx. Showing us, that Miranda have a sense of evaluate her opponents and know how go against them. With Bond, she knew she had to betraying him, using the things he cared. Again, Paris and Elektra death, made Bond blind and wanting to protect vulnerable girls. Miranda probably was the villain that almost destroyed Bond... he was in prison for several months in china, she destroyed his career and reputation. Jinx was a interesting character that share Bond cockyness and self steem. (sadly berry wasnt best choice for this character. I know angela Basset was already "old" for the role, but i wanted to see someone like her doing Jinx) she was resourceful like Wai Lin and could keep her ground.

@@cassandramcbride7007 very well rounded review of the Bond Girls. My rule, is if Bond sleeps, she's a Bond Girl, even as a villaness, or femme fatale, the chemistry is there between the characters and Bond during the Brosnan era, as he tried to romance all of them to an extent. I do absolutely agree in terms of Miranda, she certainly was an ice cold killer capable of manipulating the entire game, if she wouldn't have openly betrayed Bond, there was still room for redemption as Frost could've cut out a path of survival, but you cannot out Bond the bond. Now as far a the more recent Bond Girls, I do prefer their tragedy over the futurism portrayed in the last franchise, instead of projecting them as physical equals, there more along the psychological themes that actually resonate with this Bond, as Carver, King, and Frost were perhaps the only women to break Bond's conditioning. You see this the entire time in the Craig franchise as they drop like flies, Craig's Bond began a downward spiral midway through Casino Royale as his interests equally begin to break down, starting with Solange's death on the beach that M uses to "motivate" Bond, Valenka, Le Chiffre's partner equally breaks with Chiffre as their plot begins to falter, and of course Vesper, as the trigger for all of Bond's worst emotions. We still see this in Quantum as Bond's actions leads to the death of Strawberry Field's and prevented Camilla Montez from her assassination attempt, which would've resulted in her death, but it was Bond's recklessness that would save them. Which Bond still fails to see is his undoing as he was unable to save Severine and M. Lastly, the only Bond girl the Craig franchise has saved to date, the only survivor, Lucia Sciarra, Monica Bellucci. She was casted as Bond's direct contrast, like Bond's understanding as he becomes further aware of the underworld of Spectre, Sciarra as well knew her depths as a made woman, as Bond was a made assassin, they were accepting of their ill fate, Sciarra who knew the death of her husband meant hers as well, and Bond who was coming to understand he is a man out if his depth that is alone in his endeavor. It was this mutual understanding that prompted Bond to "secure" the late maiden, ensuring her safety by staying long enough in the night to ensure no more goons would come, allowing Sciarra to safely make it to the American embassy and Felix by the morning. She survived the night by their Bond.

Cracking list! I would've given an honourable mention to Elektra King - I think Sophie Maceau did a terrific job in The World is Not Enough. There is a lot of stuff in that film that doesn't age well, but her performance is still great!

Her performance overshadows Denise, to a point we care more for Elektra and wanting her to survive and take the role of the main bondgirl. Even Renard was interesting and well performed by Robert. Sadly they didnt do to much with Renard...

It's strange that the 1 exception to Dario Sanchez's priority of Loyalty is his girlfriend Lupe. he has caught her more than once with another man or trying to escape. Why is he so obsessed, or even in LOVE, with Lupe? The film never really shows him having an uncontrollable desire or singular passion for her. Why not replace her with another hot bimbo?

Most people criticize Savalas's portrayal just for being "too American" and that "he was just playing Kojak again" but I personally like him because of how more realistic and genuine he feels in comparison to all of the other Blofelds. Even Donald Pleasance whom I liked as Blofeld but also personally found his portrayal of the character to be overrated.

Great list. Gotta say I agree with the many here who rate Sanchez so highly. I find him to be very realistic and always in control, which makes him more scary to me. In many ways that's probably why the main Daylights villains are quite poor... in a quite gritty and realistic movie (relatively), they seem like cartoon characters and lack any real threat.
