Gave it a watch last night, was pretty well what I expected from a Craig era outing; good action, production values but take itself so seriously that it becomes a bit of a chore to watch especially with the longer run time. And Waltz’s Blofeld tries so hard to be menacing but comes across unintentionally hilarious. Lynch was good though, I liked the competitive relationship between her and Bond.

1:06 my take on Bond's death is that it gives a chance for the franchise to expand and do a spin-off on the (non-James Bond) 007 agent. an idea has been circulating since the 90s about the possibility of a lady Bond. but it just wouldn't be right because James Bond is such an iconic character. changing the name to Jane Bond or other would damage the image. (it should be noted that Barbara Broccoli has put her foot down and said that there will not be a female Bond.) so, with Bond "dead", 007 can be assigned to anyone of any gender. i don't think it's a coincidence that the 007 in NTTD is a woman. this way, if 007 spin-off did not pan out, it wouldn't damage the James Bond character and they can always revive him.

Ana de Armas...absolutely and without discussion, the best part of the movie. Her banter and chemistry with Daniel Craig was solid gold. She was smart, charming, capable, kicked more ass than Bond in her (unfortunately) one and only scene, and is (IMO) THE most gorgeous Bond girl in the history of the franchise.

While a fan of it, it wasn't that great. Considering the problems they had with the rights to spectre and blofeld, they retconned some things from the previous movies and did an admirable job and probably the best they could considering that and other issues they had during production. I personally have it ahead of quantum of solace but behind the rest of the Craig films. That considered Imo the craig bond films are easily the most consistently good to great of the bond films.

Enjoyed the "James Bond Revisited" series and was happy to see a detailed, balanced look at the final Craig movie. I liked this movie fine: the 2h43m running time flew by and I was able to overlook plot holes and vague villains (hey, it's a James Bond movie, after all) in favour of some decent storytelling. Craig's acting here is terrific as his character has evolved from 'blunt instrument' to haunted killer to, finally, some sort of peace. Supporting characters were good and the 'Scooby gang' didn't get in the way of Bond's journey. I would have been comfortable with Madeleine and James continuing to be estranged from each other but realizing their connection would be through their daughter. At least they gave Seydoux more to do here than in SPECTRE. The locations were beautifully shot and the set pieces were exciting. This isn't Shakespeare but neither is it an empty action flick. Expectations are always high but I'd put this solidly in the middle of Craig's era. The passion that NTTD has evoked (comments below) is an indication of the resonance of the James Bond franchise. I look forward to further instalments and, of course, more thoughtful analysis from JoBlo!

I actually think the movie would be better if it had been 10-15 minutes longer to give Safin more time to explain himself and his plan. They focused too much on his relationship with Madeleine, which was a bit unlogical at some points. But especially in the first scene and when Safin meets Madeleine in her London office, he's actually really good. The movie has a solid story imo, it was not too long in any way because there was really much going on, pace was good.

I enjoyed this movie. Wasn’t crazy about it, but I still enjoyed it. I feel like everyone either loves or hates this movie. It just falls in the middle for me amongst all the Bond films. I just felt sad that he died because Craig’s Bond never really got a good life so he’s a tragic character that never got that much happiness.
@jeromewagschal9485

Only because they ( Craig and the producers ) wanted him to die... They could have given him the happy ending/retirement/family life that he rightfully deserved instead of being lazy and kill him off just like that... Not to mention that I was so out of character for him to simply give up like that... Hell, if I had been in his place I wouldn't have given up on life, a treatment...Even if it had taken years... But anyway...I wasn't in charge of this movie, so...

I've really enjoyed this series of retrospectives and feel this channel has done a wonderful job at it. No Time To Die was just as good as I hoped it would be after the mixed feelings I had over Spectre (which is only slightly better on multiple viewings). Rating the Craig era films is pretty straightforward.

It's the death of Daniel Craig's Bond, a Bond story told but him through 5 movies, which started with the best Bond movies there's ever been and maybe will be, Casino Royal (2007) I also see it as the death of _my_ James Bond, the one I've been watching several different actors play over my 40 years. And I see it as the end of the contemporary Bond, always set in the year it was released, all the Bonds were not period pieces. So Craig's gone. The original Bond of 25 movies is gone And the Bond that Flemming and the Broccolis is gone. They cannot undo this, if they tried it would be the perma-death of Bond. No no, what they _MUST_ do now is create an all new Bond, a period piece, set in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War. Start the story anew. There's 12 Flemming Bond books. Tell those stories and I don't mean the screenplays that came from them.
@tomchris60

Christian Bale's Batman kinda-sorta died/disappeared/quit at the end of The Dark Knight Rises. But through the magic of rebooting, the bat suit was worn again by Ben Affleck in a new incarnation that was current and relevant. Not some gimmicky period piece that tells another generation that James Bond is nostalgic and from the past, not modern. So Bond's death can be undone (or forgotten) when there are millions like myself who will shell out money for new 007. Especially a revamped James Bond that will be, unlike the Craig era, fun!

How on earth does that screenplay deserve a 9??? The terrible cyber-eye transmitter subplot alone brings it down to at least a 7. The lack of a clear villain motivation brings it down even further. So many plotholes and lack of logic in this film. Then there was that entire Cuba scene felt like it was ripped out of a Marvel movie…

This has been a great series. My own thoughts on the film echo yours, largely, barring Ms. Waller-Bridge. I was in absolute fury when I saw the end of the film but now, in hindsight, I see it as more of Daniel Craig's fit of pique than anything else. And Ana De Armas absolutely stole the movie, not just because she was easy on the eye.

First time I’ve really disagreed with this series. Script: lame, predictable and BORING (as well as far too long) Bond girls: Paloma is amazing. But the „love story“? Wooden, unconvincing and over-egg And the „Bond has a child“: please! Give me a break. This was the catalyst for me seriously considering stopping the film. Instead, I trudged through, looking at my watch every 15 minutes and hoping it would end. And that’s the thing. The film was… well. Boring. Incredibly and unmistakably dull. Not to mention the fact that Bond himself is just a cantankerous, pathetic old man in the film. And that pains me so much to type, because I loved Craig‘s Bond. Anyway, easily the worst Bond film of the era. Good riddance and bring on the next one!

Haven’t read the books in over twenty years… and no. I did not read them all. But irrespective of this, the „Bond with child“ reveal in this film is piss-poor. Not only is it unrealistic (sure, she gets pregnant JUST before they go their separate ways), but it also contributes to what is this films biggest faux pas: transforming Bond into a sour, boring middle-aged man

I have nothing against Ana De Armas, but she did not need to be in the movie. I remember thinking why she was there because she’s only in 1 part and is never seen or heard from again. It would make more narrative sense if Jeffrey Wright filled her part, since he came to Jamaica to explain the mission. Also, it makes his death more impactful, since he would have had more screen time
@caseykod4406
@caseykod4406 2 года назад
She absolutely didn't need to be there for the plot, but I also think that she did - undeniably - steal the show; to the point where her inclusion and the way that Bond interacted with her did add something to the overall experience. That fight scene is the one that I keep coming back to from this movie and her performance is up with the score as my favorite aspects. However, if this was a novel or a screenplay I probably wouldn't have remembered her character was there.

This Bond was supposed to be more gritty and realistic. What’s more realistic than killing him off? If you wanted a cartoon character come to life, I have no sympathy for you. The problem is that since Spectre, the villains have been cartoony. It’s like they hired Craig to be more realistic and Flemingesque, went too far with Quantum and then overcorrected into Roger Moore territory. I never bought Bond and Madeleine Swann. After everything with Vesper, convincing the audience that Madeleine is his “one true love” is stupid. I don’t mind the so-called “me too” stuff either. It’s 2022. Get over it. It’s like someone in 1863 complaining that slavery isn’t allowed anymore. Grow up.

IMO this is the most disappointing film of the series and one of my worst of the series. A bland and forgettable film, with an ending that is just laughable (seriously I was happy when Bond died meaning that the film could end) Granted the first fifty minutes were enjoyable but after the Cuba scenes, it goes spectacularly downhill with a slow and dull film. A terrible villian whose plot was… what? Action that actually took me out of the film, and characters who just come and go with the best character of the whole movie disapearing after ten minutes. As the humour…👎 For me it is the worst Daniel Craig Bond film, my third worst Bond film, and the third worst era ending Bond film.

Honestly my biggest issue was him dying at the end. However to call it monumental is just wrong. It is hardly monumental. The movie was okay but Casino Royale is far superior. No one is taking this as the death of the character just because the character died. The issue is that James Bond doesnt die. He doesnt need to die to put in a new Bond. He was absolutely quick to womanize, just mellowed out by the end.

Oh, where to begin... 1st, NTTD is one of the worst Bond screenplays ever. It's filled with inconsistencies and contrived plot points (especially Bond's death). 2nd, the NTTD doesn't have a story to tell and lacks purpose. Almost every other Bond movie moves along fast enough to make you feel like you're watching something important whereas NTTD drags through most of it's middle section. 3rd, this film lacks originality featuring many references to On Her Majesty's Secret Service instead of creating it's own identity (They didn't even bother writing their own end credits song). For me, NTTD is one of the worst Bond movies ever since Moonraker. Bond dying might as well have been the end of the series because 1 of the big reasons why it's endured for over 5 decades is because we could always count on Bond to survive the film. Now that that's gone, Bond is now on the same level with other action heroes and the series is permanently tarnished.

Am I the only one who thought this movie was at the same level or even worse than Spectre? I found the whole screenplay being filled with unnecessary comedy. The villain motivations are not clear and its characterisation is poor. The chinese boxes of secret organisations that carries on from Skyfall becomes boring. So does Bonds early retirement in some tropical island (again??). Finally the whole “five years later” daughter plot was unnecessary. At last let’s mention the ending. We see a man who’s ready to do wathever it takes, to push it to the limits, to achieve the impossible letting himself get killed because he won’t be able to touch his daughter…c’mon Solid 4/10

I wish most franchises are like James bond. Each film are their own story and episodic. It never forgets the kind of entertainment its supposed to be; a Spy action movie. So many other shows, games and movies like Star wars, Marvel, Destiny, and even Red vs. Blue (that went from a simple comedy show to a complicated drama); all feel the need to connect every single piece to the beginning, that it becomes exhausting after a while. No one is complaining that James Bond should go back to its roots because it has never left it. If you want cheesy one liners go see Connery or Moore. If you want grit and drama, check out Craig or Dalton.

It was a mistake to kill Bond. I don't agree with the "it's just like killing Batman" argument - no one has been arrogant enough to kill Batman in any movie. Craig and Barbara Broccoli do not own James Bond and it was arrogant and selfish of them to destroy him at the end. James Bond is a decades old character from books and films. A character that has been played by several actors, all of whom made the character their own in some way, but they all played the same character. When their time was up they handed the torch onto the next actor. I think killing Bond has damaged the character and the brand. This film has certainly tarnished the franchise in many people's eyes. Generally the No Time to Die was grim, overly long, repetitive and dull. I have children who love all the Bonds, except the Craig era. Personally I miss the days of James Bond adventures where there wasn't F-bombs being dropped, where Bond spent the movie in exciting locations and battling larger-than-life foes - rather than moping around about how heartbroken he is about a woman who died that he knew for a few weeks max. Let's hope they go back to Bond as entertainment, somehow I doubt it.

Should’ve been released this month to coincide with Casino Royale’s 15th anniversary Had tears in my eyes by the end A fitting conclusion for Daniel Craig as James Bond I was never bored, the story revelations were consistently entertaining, fun action, a relevant storyline for our modern world, and I enjoyed how they bounced from each character to the next Although I wish Ana de Armas and Jeffrey Wright were in it more as well as Christophe Waltz But I was impressed with Rami Malek as the villain and Lashana Lynch as the first female 00 agent Lea Seydoux as Madeleine continues holding her relationship with Bond, the glue that keeps the movie grounded making Bond feel human The opening song by Billie Eilish provides the right amount of melancholy Some newer story beats might've been slightly glanced over though Still it's a bittersweet finale for this new modernized take on Ian Fleming's character Definitely worth the wait Still can't believe this is the last James Bond film starring Daniel Craig Amazing they paid tribute to the past 23 films in 2 hours and 46 min; everything from the opening titles to visual cues right down to certain line exchanges Director Cary Fukunaga did a splendid job opening more possibilities for the franchise while also tying up dangling storylines Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas are the best new characters I really like Rami Malek as the villain Safin I was in tears by the time this ended and the score by Hans Zimmer added a lot of emotional weight to it Very happy I watched all these movies and picked up many similarities mainly On Her Majesty's Secret Service I'll miss Craig playing this character so much...

James Charles Bond, Agent 007 of Military Intelligence-6. A man no longer alive. We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better, than he was. Better, stronger, faster.

First Bond death scene? Nope. If it follows plot points from SPECTRE, that's going to be a problem for me, because I've actually _tried_ to forget it.

Lashana lynch as 007 in Bonds absence was a double whammy. She was totally believable as an agent being both black and female. Very clever move

Not bad movie if compare to Spectre, but Blofed shd not appear again. The character just not natural & the interrogation scene between Bond & Blofed was soooo weak. Bond just begging Blofed to reveal, thats just not Bond. Safin should have more scene, such a waste of Malik talent. Ana de Armas of course the highlight. Overall, not bad but few scenes just spoil the mood.

Great review. I just discovered this channel, and am very impressed. I look forward to watching all of your vids, especially the ones about the Bond movies. Although Bond films, especially the older ones, can have moments that are undeniably cringe-worthy, there is something simple and powerful about the core concepts, and I agree that this film is a good example. And Craig has become an iconic Bond. (Although, truth be told, I still thing George Lazenby should have stuck around.) Finally, thanks for pointing out that Ana de Armas was also in "Knives Out." It is a tribute to her skills as a thespian that, despite having recently seen both films, I didn't recognize her as being the same person.

I'm predicting the next "007 James Bond "will be Northern Irish Actor "Jamie Dornan ", just putting it out there.!?!, but i would love it be Henry Cavill, he is made for the part.!

Daniel craigs bond fails in every film ,vesper gets killed ,The main villain tortures him brutally, then Mr white escapes fails to protect Mathias Then girl get cover in oil and killed , Skyfall fails to recover memory card ,fakes death gets m killed, spectre complete disaster, And then no time to die ,should have been call everyone dies, including James bond, Craig should stick to disaster movies, His bond has done more for Prozac sales then entertainment 😂😂😂😂😂

This movie is basically avengers endgame but with 007 in the title. You have the "nanotech", then bond having a daughter but all for him to sacrifice his life and die, then you have safin who wants to conduct genocide. So nanotech is present Then bond = Tony Stark Safin = thanos

I just watched on a streaming service, so I was able to watch your review without spoilers. 😊. I thought an odd movie, Felix and Spectre killed off so quickly seemed let’s get rid of them asap. I guess to move on but, just in this movie, perhaps. I just watched last week so as usual with Bond James Bond can take a while to completely digest and analyze but enjoyed it. Seemed liked tying up old loose ends at times, but yes…… the Finale. Ranking later provisional 6.8.

Bond did not had to die. He could have just lived without any contact with his family. Besides, Q or someone else could have made a antidote. Bond "needed to die' with the sole 'reason' of 'Bond needed to die' (for shock value)

Wonderful revisit to a great movie! The individual moments are so interesting, so long as they don’t involve the villains. I was so excited during the intro when Saffin showed up only to be let down by his motivations later on. If they just added a few more lines of dialogue involving who the nanobots were targeting I think it would have gone a long way. My only other issue was when Nomi offered up the 007 title out of left field and him accepting. If he would have told her to keep the title, or if there was a more personal moment when it was offered, I think it would have helped cement the stepping away of Craig’s Bond from 007. Besides that I loved it! Again, great episode of a great series! Thank you for making these.

tbh the fact 007 has a kid and the whole ''more human'' vibe in NTTD fucked the whole franchise in my opinion..... untill skyfall it went pretty good. haha I think I will tell my kids soectre and no time to die were non canon

James got Mathis killed, drawing him back into the fray after he'd retired. So it's only symmetrical that Bond should be persuaded to come back and not survive.

I've loved Bond films my whole life. Watching them with crowds over xmas before the days of video. Finally seeing one at the cinema and loving The spy who loved me. Thinking the franchise might be dead then seeing Casino Royale which is now my fave Bond film. All I've got to say is this film is shit. Total shit. No respect for the franchise whatsover. A tiny amount of good stunts completely ruined by crappy camerawork and over editing. The absolute worst damn theme song that almost put me to sleep before the film started. Boring plot. Shit villain. I could go on but I can't be arsed. Don't think I've ever been more disappointed (almost angry) with a film in my whole life. I look at my Bond film collection and it very nicely ends with Spectre. This film to me is like the 4th Indiana Jones. It doesn't exist....

It’s kinda annoying that every villain has to have a scar or something messed up about them. It would make it more interesting to have a villain that has some sort of personality disorder that could be explored in depth and not something so obvious as a scar and a brief backstory in the film.

Great film, effective death scene however ruined by the Hanz Music during Bond's death scene. In my opinion, literally making the music so overdramatic. It should have been quiet during that scene where everyone was showing their reaction to Bonds sacrifice

I didn't enjoy this film. Especially the last third was a slog to watch. I had to stop watching when they got to the island, because I was so bored. And only finished it a couple of days later. Daniel Craig does a good job, but he can't push the whole film by himself. Nomi is just annoying to watch, she as no style, no class, no personality. The villain is the most pathetic one I remember in a Bond movie. I can see that Remi was doing his best to give a unique interpretation, but the result was really bad. The only part that was truly entertaining was with Ana de Armas. So funny, quicky and action packed. In the ended Craig saga died with a whimper.
