Billy the fastest way its to throw the berry. Quickly take the snapshot. And as it's in the eating animation play with the buddy. This will cut the eating animation and go straight to the play. It's a couple of seconds faster. Try it out!
@@naturalharmoniagropius4486 Does not slow the animation for me either but you can take the snap shot during the eating animation so you dont need to do it later.
How do you play with your buddy without setting it down (yellow footprints) . How is everyone’s buddy just showing up in the middle of the screen without setting it down ?
They should change make it spin 10 different stops. Because it sucks how if you do go to a new spot you're gonna spin alot of stops with your current buddies so future buddies can't get it so easily
I just got my first best buddy, and it took 71 days. it is my favorite pokemon of all time(tyranitar) so Im kind of glad I got to spend so much time with it.
Thanks Billy. I use a similar process and can confirm it works well to get the buddy excited. Only comment is, you just need to play with your buddy occasionally afterward to keep it excited to keep geting candy at half the walking distance.
I have over 100 best buddies without purchasing a Poffin (outside of boxes). I used a different method. I gave 21 different buddies the 5 easy hearts each day. That way I earn at least 105 hearts each day. It takes 60 days, but you get 21 best buddies at once. 100 for the gold badge in 10 months.
The game changes once you realize you want a high and steady rate of Hearts Per Day. I do the same, but only do 10 buddies (+60hpd), since that's my comfort zone. I'm at 84 BB. :)
Each "unique" Battle counts as one point; like... Battling a grunt and a leader after counts as 2 points. So every 30 minute u should battle (with your buddy) a grunt, a leader, Giovanni, a friend or a GoBattle doubt, a Gym Battle, a Team Leader and a raid ... Just to max out the point stacks. For thoose who dont wonna consume the TeamGoRocket radars just go in for the battle and fast go out, u get 1 point anyway (Leaders and Giovanni too)
Nice, I've seem it pretty close to what you said. But I think each unique battle gives two hearts. Someone can get different points from Gym, Team Leader, Rocket Leader, Grunt. Also, when you change your buddy, you get two points. I'll check again the points count for the battles...
It's possible to get to excited in just over 30 min without walking or a new stop by doing 1 of each battle type I know gym, raid, team leader and other player all count separately, I thought rocket all counted the same but considering they are different for tasks they might be different here too. I also try to do 1 interaction at 15-20min in case I mess up the timing and leave it longer than 30min without interactions.
I've been grinding with buddies like this for a while. Strategy is a bit different but end results are the same - I usually stick with ranking 3 best buddies every 2 weeks
@@andytekampe8748 Based on his spreadsheet you should be able to get the pokemon excited in 1.5 hrs without walking. Feed (2), Battle (2), Play (2), and Snapshot (2) equals 8pts. So if you started at 10:00 am for 8 pts. Then at 10:30 am for 8 more points bring the total to 16pt. Then 8pt more at 11:00 am for 24pts. Final 8pt at 11:30 am will give you a grand total of 32 pts.
My research is as such: A total of 16 emotional pts to reach excited status, 8 pts for squinty eyes. Resets in 30min block 1. Feed buddy (1pt) 2. Play with buddy (1pt) 3. Take picture with buddy (1pt) And with your buddy in the team 4. Battle with team leader (Complete whole battle) (1pt) 5. Battle with a friend (Complete whole battle) (1pt) 6. Battle Gym (Complete whole battle with 1 mon) (1pt) 7. Battle Team Rocket grunt (Can back out any time) (1pt) 8. Battle Team Rocket leader (Can back out any time) (1pt) 9. Battle Team Rocket Giovanni (Can back out any time) (1pt) 10. Battle in Go battle league (Can back out any time) (1pt) 11. Battle in a raid (1pt) No time limit 12. Get item presents (3pts) 13. Get souvenir (3pts) 14. Spin a new pokestop (1~3 pts) - not too sure as not enough unspun pokestops in my area 15. Walk 2km (3pts) So you can get your buddy to be excited in 30 minutes if everything goes right.
@@andytekampe8748 different NPC trainer count as 1, different rocket leader count as 1, Giovanni, another trainer, gym, raid, PvP (should be). Hope that clears up.
If you had Siri on, you could have asked it to set the timer for you. I usually do "Hey Siri, set a timer for *blank* minutes" and it will show a small pop up of the timer while still playing the game
Last spring I really grinned best buddies. I would get 4ish hearts per buddy for 15ish buddies, every day. After a few months I had most of my best Pokémon best buddies. Now I have 34 best buddies. Currently working on 6-12 hearts per day on 2-3 Pokemon per day. My pro tip: I mega evolved my ampharos once, then walked it a bunch during this process. It gave me so much mega energy. I’m at over 700 mega energy for ampharos now.
What I do when I have a gift from the buddy is in this order: Tap on gift Take snapshot while it opens After gift is opened, play with buddy Once buddy playing animation is done, feed the berry to buddy and press the exit button in top left corner
I started playing in Dec 2020 and have been doing this method. I now have 6 Best Buddies, Shiny Gyarados, Mew, Shadow Mewtwo, Shiny Entei, Shiny Mewtwo and Charizard in that order. I am currently working on the rest of the mega evolving pokemon
I currently have 23 best buddy :) > Just beat a gym and put your buddy in the list, you'll automatically get 3 hearts for "Battle together". - this one of the fasters way.
So I’ve actually found you can do it in 11.69 days. Getting all 24 hearts the first two days. On the third day you’re eligible for bonus. So far I’ve received two a day max, though I haven’t determined if that is the max, I’d assume it’s 3 a day like the others. You don’t have to get your buddy excited either, but it does appear random. I’ve opened 2 back to back. The moment I woke up. But after 2 days of 24 adding to 48. At 26 a day you can max after 9.69 more days. The hardest one there is, is the new places if you e been all over. But I live near 3 big ish cities and purposefully skip poke stops fir my buddies.
I have been playing since October and have two best buddies, one that’s nearly half way thru the third heart and a few others are well into the second heart. I think that’s pretty good progress.
I'm at 84 Best Buddies. I have 7 passive buddies that i do 6 hearts each with a single rocket balloon for battles. Then i do 3 active buddies that i excite throughout the day. My baseline is 60 hearts per day (hpd) to average 1 best buddy every 5 days (= 300hearts / 60 hpd). I love the buddy system although it needs to be more useful to get best buddies. A ribbon and two power-ups is not enough...
Thanks for the video - I have 130 Best buddies so far and have never used a poffin yet but may today since I have just received my first from an AR Scan - by swapping all 20 buddies each day I create a new best buddy on average every 3 days because I average over 100 hearts per day. Cheers
I always do this but, you can earn battle hearts in gyms to, just set it as second pokemon so you can battle with the recommended and the you will also get the 3 hearts so i doesnt need to get fainted.
It’s great to have best buddy pkmn without using a poffin. It just takes forever though despite these tips. I got my best buddy pkmns w/o the poffin and experimented using poffins and it makes it much faster, easier, etc… Explains the cost but hey you get what you pay for or what you don’t pay for. I myself have 20+ best buddy pkmn and it takes a lot of work. You’re constantly checking your game so often and you have to walk everywhere! I mean everywhere! Adventure sync helps a lot too. It’s good to see trainerclub track/record the actual data as he’s conducting this experiment.
Another tip I have for battling with the team leaders. I just put my buddy and my 2 weakest pokemon in my party and let it lose. Takes about 45 seconds for the battle
Honestly, the incentives to have more than a handful of best buddies are non-existent. I hope they add some sort of benefit beyond a few cp points in the future. Why not make it so your buddy gets XL candy more frequently depending on how high a buddy level it is? Why not make the items better as they become better buddies? What about actually doing something with these random gifts they bring us? Why not have the best buddy keep the cp boost for up to a day or something... why not have it get excited more often? Why not have it help with catching more frequently?
I just do 6(feed, photo, play and 3 battles) hearts on 21 buddies each day. Takes about 2+ hours. 21 best buddies in 50 days. The 30 minute timer he talks about is more time consuming.
I have two categories of buddies; active and passive. passive buddies you just do the 6, active buddies you excite throughout the day. You can get 126 hearts per day with 21 passive buddies, like you. Or you can do the same with 5 active buddies (24excited hearts*5=120 hearts) and 1 passive buddy (6 hearts). Personally i'd do 10 passive buddies (60 hearts) and 3 active buddies throughout the day (22 hearts*3 = 66).
Goes faster if you do more than 1 a day.. I try to get 2 excited per day and then work on getting like 10 other mons the 6 easy hearts.. You can do as many as 20 a day but I try to work on about 10 at a time.
There's a website that'll calculate how many days it'll take based on a screenshot. It'll show different options, i.e. how many days earning how many hearts (so poffin/excited vs the minimal hearts).
how do u instantly get your buddy on the screen to take a picture? it takes ages for me to find a spot to place it, and it stays on that spot so I can't keep walking for example
I use 2 method for battle w your buddy, that is having your buddy in your party and attack a gym up to the third pokemon (which i find is the fastest) as you dont have to keep backing out and resetting your party compared to the second fastest which is using cp10s and your buddy in the team leader battles 😁🤘🏼
The fastest way to get more best buddies is actually walk 20 buddy pokemon per day and on all of them do 2 treat hearts, play heart, 3 battle hearts and snapshot heart, I have 92 best buddies since July 2020 by using this
Can you get to best buddy without getting your buddy excited every time? I have a very small number of pokestops in my town so I can't really get the visit a new pokestop every time
You can yes. Do not worry about the new stop you can still get to excited without a new stop and even if you dont get excited you can still get to best buddy just takes a lot longer.
I now understand getting my buddy in the battle! Thanks for the reply! But I still can't get the extra hearts after the first stars of the day. No berries or playing or photos will give more hearts UNLESS I use a puffin. Any idea why?
I have 1 Poffin and I'll use on a UL Magikarp, since I need candies for Gyarados. Then evolve it when the Mew tasks that requires a Magikarp evolution popped up

Can anyone help me. I get my buddy excited as usual then I feed it the berry after 30 minutes but it takes the berry but it dosent register in the heart I have even tried restarting the app and everything can anyone please help? Thanks!
Once your pokémon is excited, can you just keep walking to keep it that way forever (until midnight when it resets)? I mean, since the walking part is not supposed to have a cooldown. Or does this only apply to getting hearts with the pokémon and not keeping it excited?
This newly improved system is awesome, I am exciting 2 buddy mon every day and my shundo lucky Mewtwo that I started walking 10 days ago is about to be Best buddy in 3 days.
I have a couple questions regarding the system in general Can I progress through the buddy level with multiple Pokémon a day? (Level one up 6ish hearts and swap and do the same with another mon) And if my buddy didn’t have any level or progression in the buddy rank system, and I leveled it up to the first rank, am I able to progress any further that day with the progression? ( I have done this with 3 different mons today and they aren’t gaining any progress on the buddy level that I can visibly see.)
Where can you get that google sheet for counting the points? Not sure how to make one like that myself and would certainly help me cause I tend to lose track of these.

Hi Billy! Thank-you got all of your awesome videos! I have been a subscriber for a few months now. However, I am a bit confused about you continuing to say, “Without using a “Poffin?” I use Poffins all the time and skip all the work of setting timers etcetera? With a Poffin, i walk a lot, so I often get 20-21 hears for my Pokémon. I don’t buy Poffins either...I just visit Pokestops with AR Mapping and sometimes I will get a Field Research task of taking a video of that Stop....if the reward is a Poffin (usually is 1 out of 3 times), I do the task, wait for it to upload, grab the Poffin, and try again for another task with a Poffin reward. If the reward is red, blue or black balls, I delete it and try again at the next stop. You can only have 1 AR Mapping tasks on your Field Research at a time, so that’s why I grab the Poffin as soon as it uploads. Yesterday, for example, I used 2 Poffins and found 4 in Field Research. So how come you don’t use or talk about Poffins? What am I missing? Thank you! I am going to try to sign up for your Patreon.
One tip for battling the trainer leaders, don't level up your pokemon past 2500 because in the master league battles they use shields and takes longer.
Just use 10cp; 10cp then the ‘to be best buddy’. Both 10cp get knocked out straight away. Then hopefully you picked the stronger team leader to beat the ‘to be buddy’. Match over, repeat. You do NOT have to win.
I walked with my buddy 24 km in 1 day by adventure sinc So I got 12 of 2 km for which I got 36 excited points but still didn't got his mood excited however I got candies for all of em.
The kids and I are just starting out. About 2 months playing now. You mentioned a couple times like after catching the Chansey and the Alakazam, that you needed to do a shiny check. Is there increased odds of a shiny after certain Pokemon show up or after a catch? Any input would be appreciated... Great video BTW!!!
Yup alot off ppl don't know about this w.o poffins I'm at 48 bb right now almost poffin free I used a few poffins on doubles of pokemon. I also get poffins from scans tho I have 204 poffins right now lol pretty insane it use to take 5.5 hours to get excited but they actually cut the time in half to 2.5 hours and no one talked about it the switched it up when kalos mons came out. 👍
